There's just not words to describe how much he means to The Quo. Not only does he has an exream feeling for rhythm but he has also written some of their best biggies and has an awesome Rock voice. In my opinion he's by far the best rhythm guitarists, in difference to others on this list who are more of "second guitars". If you haven't heard Rick play Caroline, you got no idea what a rhythm guitarist should be doing ;). He is the part of Status Quo that (musically speaking) is irreplaceable. Without him there would be no FF. Rossi being irreplaceable for other reasons, but a lot of musicians can do what Rossi does, not many can do what Rick does.
Rick Parfitt is truly the best. He is one of few real rhythm players. His solid style and sense of timing is of the highest order. People like John Lennon are only Backing Guitars. Anybody on this site should youtube "Caroline" or "Don't Waste My Time" or even "Over The Edge" and they will immediately see, hear, and even feel the guitar God that is Rick Parfitt. No-one else on the planet can play a guitar the way he does. He is Truly a Sensation.
His style is impeccable. None of this 3 chord malarky, no one can do what he does! Just watch him play the opening of Caroline live, or play his part in Down Down. How his right hand can cope, I'll never know! One of rock's greatest rhythm guitarists and criminally underrated.
This is a US site so not many would have heard of Rick Parfitt, but quite frankly his is unique.. the best Rhythm Guitarist ever. And may he RIP.V 30 Comments
Yes, both of them, Dave Murray and Adrian Smith did lead guitar. But it seems like that Adrian did most of the rhythm parts - zxm
The mastermind of Anthrax's monstrous, infectious riff. He's THE MAN and the walking dude. His presence on stage is just awesome. Thank you for your music.
No one has written so many awesomme, unmistacable and original riffs as scott ian. You can tell right away which song Anthrax or S.O. D song you're listening too. Also a man who has mastered both the relentless down picking style of thrash and also how to play groove riffs. And you have to mention his unique guitar sound, that rly crunchy guitar sound that so many metal bands use these days!
Although a great rhythm guitarist, Charlie Benante is actually the main riff writer. Scott is the lyricist of the band. Still one of the best.
Probably the most underrated rhythm guitar playerV 2 Comments
Unbelievably good. Sometimes it sounds like there's two guitarists - a rhythm and a lead - even live!
WHY SO LOW? JIMMY PAGE IS LITERALLY THE BEST RHYTHM GUITARIST OF ALL TIME.Ever heard of immigrant song? or black dog? or whole lotta love? or heartbreaker? Pageys power was in writing legendary riffs and the ones I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg
How did no one put him on the list? Dream Theater's got a lot of great guitar riffs, each song is loaded with genius and complex riffs, solos, and backing rhythm guitar. When you hear the guitar, there's one person playing it. Not a rhythm guitarist and two lead guitarists, John Petrucci is the ONLY Dream Theater guitarist, and what he contributes to their music never ceases to amaze me. John Petrucci is arguably the greatest guitarist of all time, but he is, no doubt, the greatest rhythm guitarist of all time. - Songsta41
Ritchie is amazing. However, as Jon Lord stated, Ritchie doesn't like playing rhythm and it's obvious when you hear him play. When he's not soloing, he doesn't play much of anything. That's my only criticism of him. If he's not in the spotlight, he'd rather not play. - RalphSaad
He was only guitarist. So he's both lead and rhythm guitarist - zxm
Why so low - his riffs are legendary. - Metal_Treasure
The most perfectionist without flaws. But he played played LEAD.
Then again, Frank Zappa was the Master of 60's 70's Rock. Saw Frank on The Tonight Show with Steve Allen, on his very 1st performance in the early 60's in Black and White T.V..
Look it up on youtube, it's there, playing drumsticks on a bicycle...hehe
I've seen most of 'em in over 50 years, and Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention were the Best.
Look up Frank Zappa and Steve Allen on youtube and laugh and enjoy.
Don't Vote! It only encourages Them.
A great musician in general, whether it's vocals, drums or guitar.
Dave is just a beast at everything he does. Drums, Singing, songwriting. Oh yeah, and a damn good Rhythm Guitarist!
Dave Murray was manly a lead guitarist. But still he can play rhythm guitar (Every lead guitarist can play rhythm guitar actually). - zxm
Is this a joke? The Edge is one guitarist whose rhythms cannot even be imitated. His rhythms are what give all U2 songs their power. - ameentheguitarist23
I wanna scream at these idiotic ratings. He didn't;t know technically how to play, so he invented a unique style, unlike the rest. This Welsh/ Irishman is one bad ass.
He might be the coolest person on the list, but quality and polish puts him above most clearly if you listen to his playing.
Hell yes. Light years over muted power chords
One of the greatest American composers alive.
Matt Tuck is amazing. He plays guitar, is the lead singer and does screaming as well, how much better can you get? Bullet would be lost without him, and then even though he's a rhythm guitarist, he can step up and play solo' just like Padge. Listen to the solo of Heart's Burst Into Fire by Bullet For My Valentine and you will hear Matt's talent.
What a rhythm guitarist for this generation. Without matt there is no Bullet For My Valentine
Just listen Alone and Waking The Demon;
Such a hard riffs and he sing over them
Rudolf deserves the top place! He created Scorpions and beats every single rhythm guitar players!
His awesome guitar-playing and rhythms are one thing, but the way he plays and all the energy he uses on the scene, makes him the best rhythm guitarist by miles.
just listen to those riffs! It will blow your head off!
He touches my soul and makes it weep. No one else does that.V 1 Comment
Richie just doesn't get enough credit. Even the heaviest of heavy metal heads will get caught listening to good ol' Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora's licks.
Richie always be the best their is, the best there was, and the best their will be...
