41 Joe Strummer Joe Strummer John Graham Mellor, known by his stage name Joe Strummer, was a British musician, singer, actor and songwriter who was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the Clash.

The Clash wouldn't be what they were without Joe laying down a steady beat.

Just listen to London Calling, Brand New Cadillac and Train in Vain

The dude took the name "Strummer"! Once he did that he had to be great. His abilities really shine in the Mescaleros.

Bad ass!

42 Roope Latvala

Why is roope excluded? He is also the essence of children of bodom and he is really talented!

He writes most of the killer riffs. Alexi writes the lyrics and solos. This guy is the heart of COB

I think he is the best rhythm guitarist guys just listen to angels don't kill, every time I die and banned from heaven then you know how tallented he is.

43 Frank Iero Frank Iero Frank Anthony Iero, Jr. is a musician who was the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist of the alternative rock band My Chemical Romance as well as the vocalist of the post-hardcore band Leathermouth and electronic-hardcore act Death Spells.

He is really awesome much better than Ray Toro but in life you can't get what you want always so listen to the Art of Life by X Japan

Awesome guitarist, never seen someone with so much energy on stage

He is so much awesome with his own style playing sick rhythm.

44 Billie Joe Armstrong Billie Joe Armstrong Billie Joe Armstrong is an American musician, singer, songwriter and actor who is best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter, and guitarist of the punk rock band Green Day, which he co-founded with Mike Dirnt.

He is at #42. I think it isn't a wrong place for him. He should be between 50-70. - zxm

He Is A Amazing Guitarist

He might not have the greatest wickedest shreddest solo but he's got great rhythm that would just stick in your mind

Inspired me to start playing guitar. A true legend. Love you BJA!

47 Daron Malakian Daron Malakian Daron Vartan Malakian is an Armenian–American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer.

Daron can keep a REALLY fast, amazing, beat with a guitar, while singing almost the whole time in many of the newer songs. Extremely talented.

I keep trying to convince people that he is a guitar virtuoso but they wont believe me but seriously try playing one of his songs you'll see - Miles101

50 Bob Weir Bob Weir Robert Hall "Bob" Weir is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, most recognized as a founding member of the Grateful Dead.

Awesome guitar player. He knows that instrument possibly better than any other rhythm player. He can play a particular note a handful of different ways all over the neck. China Cat Sunflower is a great showcase of his talent. In the main riff, he's the guy playing notes on the high end. During Jerry's solos, his classic rhythms drive the song beautifully. Great improviser. He jams notes in between Jerry's that are just so tasty - especially his harmonics.

Seriously, THE best rhythm guitarist of all time. His rhythm is inspired by not other rhythm guitarist, but instead jazz piano. Different genre, as well as a different instrument. He plays with so many different fills, and they are all over the place. Amazing.

Rhythm guitar is about ensuring the songs move forward and filling gaps. Weir does both creatively and instinctively. Frequently, he would play counterpoint to Garcia's leads, giving the music a richer sound and broader context.

Weather report suite, just listen to that song and you'll know why bobby is so good

52 Brian Jones Brian Jones Lewis Brian Hopkin Jones was an English musician, the founder and the original leader of the Rolling Stones.

Just listen to his rhythm guitar on Around and Around. It anchors the whole song. It has great feel and intensifies as the song goes on. It gives Keith the freedom to play his guitar part.

When you're with The Stones, you gotta rock.

Because he's the best rock star ever!

53 Mike Shinoda Mike Shinoda Michael Kenji "Mike" Shinoda is an American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, graphic designer, manager and film composer.

Best rhythm guitarist and the best rapper! Linkin Park rocks, Mike Shinoda for the win!

I think LP are a pretty underrated band in terms of technique, sure, there are a milestone of bands that are more technical than LP, but I think Mike is just a great guitar player and he's the mastermind behind Linkin Park, he's my idol - Nintendonix

Mike Shinoda is at 50!
Rapper-lyricist-Guitarist- pianist of the greatest band of 00's doesn't deserve to be at 50! Come on!

54 Nile Rodgers

Really? REALLY? Who the HELL is voting on these things? The fact that nearly every person on this list is hard rock or metal makes me so sad. Yes, they have some phenomenal chops, but the fact that jimi hendrix and andy summer are below Frank effing iero is literally stupid. Nile rogers has played on and wrote more hits than anyone else on this list (including, but not limited to songs credited to, chic, duran duran, madonna, daft punk, diana ross, sister sledge, THE LIST GOES ON FOREVER) and paved the way for many pop, funk, and RnB guitarists, with his signature rhythm sound. The fact that he's not in the top ten putting him below the dude from avenged sevenfold (who I know is immensely talendted, but REALLY)makes me want to rip my head off.
There's my soapbox.

He is THE Rhythm guitarist of a generation. If he wasn't writing and producing for them he influenced music up and down the spectrum of 70's and 80's music. His rhythm guitar is the basis for all of that success. He is still rocking with a great band today. Time to revisit Nile Rodgers. Check your music collection he is in there, you may not know it but he is.

This is it. Rodgers is the man. If you ever found a record which had this special thing, look at the cover and read his name. Bowie, duran duran, madonna, inxs, and more. He signed for success. Rodgers was my guitar-role-model. Simply great. Thank you Nile.

I think Nile should easily be in top 10, because he is the man who made the amazing rhythm in every song he played in. Seriously think about for example all the Chic songs. The rhythm he made with his guitar is something no-one else does. that's why he was many times asked by various artists to do them a hit, and he did. that's why he is called the hitmaker. This list at the moment is not filled with rhythm guitarists in my opinion. Just typical metal/rock guitarists. REALLY Nile Rodgers is supposed to somewhere on the top.

55 Noel Gallagher Noel Gallagher Noel Thomas David Gallagher is an English musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist. He served as the lead guitarist, co-lead vocalist and principal songwriter of the rock band Oasis.

He's only composed about 5/6 albumns worth of fantastic rhythm guitar single handedly! - Miles101

56 Django Reinhardt Django Reinhardt

people who voted on this list must be very ignorant about rhythm guitar. this guy played killer rhythm with only 3 fingers on his left hand. he influenced countless rhythm and even lead guitarists. no one knowns his chords better than this guy. - russian

Django Reinhardt was so far above most of the players named here, it's not funny! Most of the players listed would be lost trying to play with him. This is just a popularity contest, not a serious comparison of real musical talent.

Like Bob Weir- in another universe from power chord silliness. Kind of like comparing the Mona Lisa to Mickey Mouse: Both have their place, but I mean really

Django should be much further up, as he was a master musician

57 Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix (born November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter . Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated more.

The very best rhythm player

He's a lead guitarist though... - Gruunge

No comments needed at all for Jimi... just listen!

58 John Frusciante John Frusciante John Anthony Frusciante is an American guitarist, singer, producer and composer. He is best known for his time with the Funk Rock California based band the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What is he doing so low on this list? James Hetfield is the best metal rhythm guitarist, but Frusciante's rhythms can never be thought of by anyone else!

You people may have forgotten that this is a list for the best RHYTHM GUITARISTS not lead guitarists.

He's the best ever! Jesus himself on guitar

Just listen to "Can't Stop"!
