The Clash wouldn't be what they were without Joe laying down a steady beat.
Just listen to London Calling, Brand New Cadillac and Train in Vain
The dude took the name "Strummer"! Once he did that he had to be great. His abilities really shine in the Mescaleros.V 2 Comments
He is at #42. I think it isn't a wrong place for him. He should be between 50-70. - zxm
He might not have the greatest wickedest shreddest solo but he's got great rhythm that would just stick in your mind
He is the best guitarist if all time
He Is A Amazing GuitaristV 1 Comment
He is really awesome much better than Ray Toro but in life you can't get what you want always so listen to the Art of Life by X Japan
Awesome guitarist, never seen someone with so much energy on stage
He is so much awesome with his own style playing sick rhythm.
I love his song named "Bendeki Gercegi". It is really a good song and he is the one of the most popular and successful rhythm guitarists in the world. Forever YusDen!V 2 Comments
Why is roope excluded? He is also the essence of children of bodom and he is really talented!
He writes most of the killer riffs. Alexi writes the lyrics and solos. This guy is the heart of COB
I think he is the best rhythm guitarist guys just listen to angels don't kill, every time I die and banned from heaven then you know how tallented he is.
Daron can keep a REALLY fast, amazing, beat with a guitar, while singing almost the whole time in many of the newer songs. Extremely talented.
I keep trying to convince people that he is a guitar virtuoso but they wont believe me but seriously try playing one of his songs you'll see - Miles101
Best rhythm guitarist and the best rapper! Linkin Park rocks, Mike Shinoda for the win!
I think LP are a pretty underrated band in terms of technique, sure, there are a milestone of bands that are more technical than LP, but I think Mike is just a great guitar player and he's the mastermind behind Linkin Park, he's my idol - Nintendonix
When you're with The Stones, you gotta rock.
Because he's the best rock star ever!
He's only composed about 5/6 albumns worth of fantastic rhythm guitar single handedly! - Miles101
people who voted on this list must be very ignorant about rhythm guitar. this guy played killer rhythm with only 3 fingers on his left hand. he influenced countless rhythm and even lead guitarists. no one knowns his chords better than this guy. - russian
Django Reinhardt was so far above most of the players named here, it's not funny! Most of the players listed would be lost trying to play with him. This is just a popularity contest, not a serious comparison of real musical talent.
Like Bob Weir- in another universe from power chord silliness. Kind of like comparing the Mona Lisa to Mickey Mouse: Both have their place, but I mean really
Django should be much further up, as he was a master musicianV 3 Comments
Really? REALLY? Who the HELL is voting on these things? The fact that nearly every person on this list is hard rock or metal makes me so sad. Yes, they have some phenomenal chops, but the fact that jimi hendrix and andy summer are below Frank effing iero is literally stupid. Nile rogers has played on and wrote more hits than anyone else on this list (including, but not limited to songs credited to, chic, duran duran, madonna, daft punk, diana ross, sister sledge, THE LIST GOES ON FOREVER) and paved the way for many pop, funk, and RnB guitarists, with his signature rhythm sound. The fact that he's not in the top ten putting him below the dude from avenged sevenfold (who I know is immensely talendted, but REALLY)makes me want to rip my head off.
There's my soapbox.
He is THE Rhythm guitarist of a generation. If he wasn't writing and producing for them he influenced music up and down the spectrum of 70's and 80's music. His rhythm guitar is the basis for all of that success. He is still rocking with a great band today. Time to revisit Nile Rodgers. Check your music collection he is in there, you may not know it but he is.
Rock, Pop, Dance, R&B, or whatever! Nile Rodgers is the best rhythm guitarists ever! It's not about hits. (although he's up there with the best). It's about what guitarists can fall into the groove the best. After all, that is what rhythm is! He took the "chuck" style that James Brown's guitarists Jimmy "Chank" Nolan developed and took it to new stratospheric heights! When he plays, you know it's him because no one else can play like that. How many rhythm guitarists have that distinction. Nile Rodgers 51? Please!
What the hell, this guy is the DEFINITION of expert rhythm guitarV 2 Comments
What is he doing so low on this list? James Hetfield is the best metal rhythm guitarist, but Frusciante's rhythms can never be thought of by anyone else!
You people may have forgotten that this is a list for the best RHYTHM GUITARISTS not lead guitarists.
He's the best ever! Jesus himself on guitar
Just listen to "Can't Stop"!V 1 Comment
Awesome guitar player. He knows that instrument possibly better than any other rhythm player. He can play a particular note a handful of different ways all over the neck. China Cat Sunflower is a great showcase of his talent. In the main riff, he's the guy playing notes on the high end. During Jerry's solos, his classic rhythms drive the song beautifully. Great improviser. He jams notes in between Jerry's that are just so tasty - especially his harmonics.
Seriously, THE best rhythm guitarist of all time. His rhythm is inspired by not other rhythm guitarist, but instead jazz piano. Different genre, as well as a different instrument. He plays with so many different fills, and they are all over the place. Amazing.
Too many metal heads voted. Bob weir is the quintessential example of a rhythm guitarist. He was a major part of the band's sound, and his rhythm playing was as good as Jerry's lead.
Absolutely agree he should be near the top. He is my definition of a rhtym guitarist. Hendrix, Richards, Page and so many of the guys on the list are GREAT LEAD GUITARISTS. They are NOT RHYTHM GUITARISTS. Whats the point of a Rhythm List if it just repeats the greatest Guitarist lists.
Weir's rhythm guitar is just as distinctive as Garcia's and the blended sound is whats made them great.
He's been with so many bands, (namely with Clapton) and done so well.
Burnley's heavy yet melodic riffs inspired me to pick up the guitar. Others may be more technically accomplished musicians but Burnley's songs are just perfect balance between heaviness and melody.
