Best Rhythm Guitarists

The Contenders: Page 4

61 Nile Rodgers

Really? REALLY? Who the HELL is voting on these things? The fact that nearly every person on this list is hard rock or metal makes me so sad. Yes, they have some phenomenal chops, but the fact that jimi hendrix and andy summer are below Frank effing iero is literally stupid. Nile rogers has played on and wrote more hits than anyone else on this list (including, but not limited to songs credited to, chic, duran duran, madonna, daft punk, diana ross, sister sledge, THE LIST GOES ON FOREVER) and paved the way for many pop, funk, and RnB guitarists, with his signature rhythm sound. The fact that he's not in the top ten putting him below the dude from avenged sevenfold (who I know is immensely talendted, but REALLY)makes me want to rip my head off.
There's my soapbox.

He is THE Rhythm guitarist of a generation. If he wasn't writing and producing for them he influenced music up and down the spectrum of 70's and 80's music. His rhythm guitar is the basis for all of that success. He is still rocking with a great band today. Time to revisit Nile Rodgers. Check your music collection he is in there, you may not know it but he is.

This is it. Rodgers is the man. If you ever found a record which had this special thing, look at the cover and read his name. Bowie, duran duran, madonna, inxs, and more. He signed for success. Rodgers was my guitar-role-model. Simply great. Thank you Nile.

I think Nile should easily be in top 10, because he is the man who made the amazing rhythm in every song he played in. Seriously think about for example all the Chic songs. The rhythm he made with his guitar is something no-one else does. that's why he was many times asked by various artists to do them a hit, and he did. that's why he is called the hitmaker. This list at the moment is not filled with rhythm guitarists in my opinion. Just typical metal/rock guitarists. REALLY Nile Rodgers is supposed to somewhere on the top.

62 Noel Gallagher Noel Gallagher Noel Thomas David Gallagher is an English musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist. He served as the lead guitarist, co-lead vocalist and principal songwriter of the rock band Oasis.

He's only composed about 5/6 albumns worth of fantastic rhythm guitar single handedly! - Miles101

63 Django Reinhardt Django Reinhardt

people who voted on this list must be very ignorant about rhythm guitar. this guy played killer rhythm with only 3 fingers on his left hand. he influenced countless rhythm and even lead guitarists. no one knowns his chords better than this guy. - russian

Django Reinhardt was so far above most of the players named here, it's not funny! Most of the players listed would be lost trying to play with him. This is just a popularity contest, not a serious comparison of real musical talent.

Like Bob Weir- in another universe from power chord silliness. Kind of like comparing the Mona Lisa to Mickey Mouse: Both have their place, but I mean really

Django should be much further up, as he was a master musician

64 Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix (born November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970) was an American rock guitarist, singer, and songwriter . Although his mainstream career spanned only four years, he is widely regarded as one of the most influential electric guitarists in the history of popular music, and one of the most celebrated more.

The very best rhythm player

He's a lead guitarist though... - Gruunge

No comments needed at all for Jimi... just listen!

65 John Frusciante John Frusciante John Anthony Frusciante is an American guitarist, singer, producer and composer. He is best known for his time with the Funk Rock California based band the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

What is he doing so low on this list? James Hetfield is the best metal rhythm guitarist, but Frusciante's rhythms can never be thought of by anyone else!

You people may have forgotten that this is a list for the best RHYTHM GUITARISTS not lead guitarists.

He's the best ever! Jesus himself on guitar

I agree. This guy is great. in my opinion, he's what Bob Weir would have become similar to if he wasn't playing with a lead guitarist.

He's been with so many bands, (namely with Clapton) and done so well.

68 Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Burnley Benjamin Jackson Burnley IV is an American musician, composer, and producer, best known as the founder and frontman of the American rock band Breaking Benjamin.

Burnley's heavy yet melodic riffs inspired me to pick up the guitar. Others may be more technically accomplished musicians but Burnley's songs are just perfect balance between heaviness and melody.

69 Jon Kabir Jon Kabir

Best rhythm guitarist of Bangladesh. He is an epic. He get a many star point from many country.

Jon Kabir is a great Guitarist... you won't believe how nice he plays...

70 Andy Summers

His work with The Police, a band that represented a new take on the idea of bass/drums/guitar trio in rock, was, arguably, the most innovative rhythm guitar playier of the last 30 (or so) years. - Brooklar

71 Richard Z. Krupse

He can write creative simple and aggressive guitar riffs. He is also a great singer check out the band Emigrate his side project band.

72 Pata (Tomoaki Ishizuka)

Why is Pata number 52?! He should be in top ten or top 5. How dare you put PATA at number 52!

He should be higher than this. At least he should be in the top 8. Those solos he played with hide are amazing. Sometimes he even plays solo himself. Hide and pata are best dou guitarist..

73 Jerry Cantrell Jerry Cantrell Jerry Fulton Cantrell Jr. is an American musician who is best known as the lead guitarist, co-lead vocalist and main songwriter for the rock band Alice in Chains.

Creative player in a sea of sameness. He is really a good musician

74 Steve Lukather Steve Lukather

Again, people just don't understand music theory like this guy. He could play 90% of their muted distortion with his testicles

This guys not a rhythm guitarist! He's an all around great guitarist! Seriously underrated, and definitally in my personal top 20 guitar players list!

75 Eric Peterson

He smokes Hetfield, in my not so humble opinion

Lamb of gods rhythms are crazy! And by the way zacky from a7x can barely play... Just saying

77 Kirk Hammett Kirk Hammett Kirk Lee Hammett is the lead guitarist and songwriter for the heavy metal band Metallica and has been a member of the band since 1983. Before joining Metallica he formed and named the band Exodus.

Kirk is the lead guitarist for Metallica, while James Hetfield is the actual rhythm guitarist.

Kirk is leaf guitarist - Disturbedpotato

Nope, I don't think he is good at rhythm guitar. Well personally I don't like his solos. I like Jame's solos and riffs more than his. - zxm

Lead* - Disturbedpotato

78 Matt Heafy Matt Heafy Matthew "Matt" Kiichi Heafy is a Japanese-American musician, best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the Orlando based Heavy Metal/Metalcore band Trivium.

Matthew Kiichi Heafy is a legend of the modern metalcore/thrash/heavy metal scene. He handles some of the most intricate guitar work of any "rhythm guitarist" all whilst managing lead vocals simultaneously. Trivium is phenomenal with their unbelievable guitar synchronization. The only justification that could explain his low ranking on this list, is that he may be considered a lead guitarist as he often takes on epic solos. Watch him play. He's brilliant.

79 Richie Havens

Known as a "folk musician", anyone who ever heard Havens strumming his Guild acoustic guitar, in his heyday, with his unorthodox alternate tunings, and use of right hand thumb for fretting, knows that Richie was a rhythm monster. No less a jazz guitar giant than Jim Hall sites Havens as a favorite. - Brooklar

I saw Richie live. He beat the hell out of that guitar with unorthodox rhythms and playing style - broke like six strings, lol!
