Norway's uncrowned singer/songwriter queen of the last decade must inquestionably be this young lady, who debuted with her first album already at the age of just 14, back in 2002. She was greatly helped with producing and realizing this first album project thanks to her own father, who happens to be an African-American musician. Since then she's released (and mostly self-written) 18 singles (all but one being a cover) and 6 complete albums. Although obviously a big name in Norway, she's actually sold even more albums in Germany, and almost as many in The Netherlands as in her native country. Switzerland, Austria, Poland and USA - the latter where she had a smashing summer hit a few years ago, called You're The Only One, as well as performing for David Letterman - are two other markets where she's experienced considerable success. The composition and the lyrics of Jason's & Colbie Caillat's monster hit Lucky, proves what a skilled songwriter mister Mraz is. Further evidence behind the claim can be added thanks to songs like Bella Luna (American crooning at its best meets "plancha", the Latin American love ballad tradition), Geek In The Pink (the perfect hip-hop crossover). Further songs of his like I Won't Give Up, A Beautiful Mess, The Remedy and Live Is A Four Letter Word (just to name a few), strenghtens this claim even further. A soon to be legend, perhaps even at the level of John Lennon, mark my words.
I think she is the best cause shes the primary songwriter of her band and mostly all of the songs shes written are meaningful and good.
