Top Ten Best Singer/Songwriters

The Contenders: Page 7

121 Steve Earle
122 Neil Finn

Very underrated/under recognized singer and songwriter.

Absolute favourite. Love his work.

Top 10 songwriter at least

Neil is literally my favourite singer/songwriter ever. I get that he's underrated outside of NZ and AU but 131?! I'd highly recommend listening to Crowded House, Split Enz, The Finn Brothers, 7 Worlds Collide Project Pajama Club and Neil's Solo Stuff. Whatever your taste or age or whatever there's nothing like sing along to a Neil Finn song and knowing that at least one person is going to smile and join in. Actually Tim's pretty amazing as well and I'm surprised I haven't seen Dave Dobbyn or Don Mcglashan yet but it seems as if this list was taken over by a lot of pop stars who don't even write their own songs after a certain point so it's sad to see Neil at 131 :(

123 Alex Turner Alex Turner Alexander David "Alex" Turner is an English musician. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter of the English rock band Arctic Monkeys.

Best singer and songwriter! His songs are unique and beautiful.

I officially believe this list is just stupid, despite the top 10 being decent for once

Quality singer/songwriter, deserves to be in top 5. Lyrics to the album 'Humbug' is on another level.

126 Kate Bush Kate Bush

This Woman influenced a fleet of female singer songwriters and should be right at the top of this list, which has no real value. She was the first woman to reach number 1 spot with a first self penned song :Wuthering Heights.

She is consistently amazing, so much better than all the people above her!

127 Tom Waits Tom Waits Thomas Alan "Tom" Waits, born December 7, 1949 is an American singer-songwriter, composer, and actor. more.

perfect. Witty lyrics of Dylan with the most innovative and experimental music you will hear. Pure genius.

Very original artist who is a somewhat aquired taste... But when you've listened to a couple of hours of his work you'll begin to realise what a genius he is and will be looking at more of his music.

128 Jason Isbell

Very underrated. One of the best lyricists of all time

"Duh. Taylor Swift is the best songwriter of our generation! " BULLCRAP! That title goes to Isbell any day. Just listen to "Cover Me Up", "Stockholm", and Seven-Mile Island" and you'll see what I mean.

129 Carly Simon

Carly has had a long and amazing career. She is terribly underrated!

130 Kenny Loggins
131 Harry Chapin

The greatest songwriter of the early 70s. Not fir radio, which is why the cranking is so low.

132 Lil Wayne Lil Wayne Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr. is an American hip hop "artist" and is often referred to as one of the worst "rappers" of all time. He was signed to Cash Money Records by Birdman at a young age. He has been critically acclaimed and even more panned throughout his career. He's often criticized for talking more.
133 Klaus Meine Klaus Meine

He write lot of lyrics.. keep moving klaus meine..

134 Lee Mavers

To be honest lee mavers possibly is the greatest songwriter the world has ever seen too bad drugs and his own insanity got the better of him.

Top 10 at least! He's certainly better than Josh Groban! On the level of Lennon/McCartney!

135 Cat Stevens Cat Stevens Yusuf Islam, commonly known by his former stage name Cat Stevens, is a British singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, humanitarian, and education philanthropist.

It's about time! I realize he hasn't done anything new for a long time, but the stuff he wrote in the early seventies will live on and on...

Great timeless lyrics with much feels! Amazing writer for the children. Should be top 75 for sure!

136 Max Martin

He has written over 167 songs. Almost all of them have become immensely successful. He writes super cool songs that people still know the lyrics to ten years later.

137 Johnny Cash Johnny Cash John R. "Johnny" Cash (1932-2003) was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and author, who was widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century and one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide. He died of more.

Johnny was an amazing songwriter! His voice is noticeable in any songs he is in! For instance, I didn't know much about Johnny. But my friend showed me a song called "Highwayman" It is Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash. They are in order on their parts. I instantly noticed Johnny Cash on his part instantly.

Bob Dylan's a great songwriter, but I don't think there's anyone that can beat Johnny Cash. Just listen to "The Man Comes Around" and that will prove my point. - Mumbizz01

138 Buddy Holly Buddy Holly Buddy Holly, born Charles Hardin Holley (September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959) was an American musician and singer-songwriter who was a central figure of mid-1950s rock and roll. He was a rising star when a tragic plane crash struck him down at age 22. more.
139 Rufus Wainwright Rufus Wainwright

Rufus beats anyone else on this list hands down in my opinion.
