Album Review #2: Divine Intervention - Slayer

Slayer is my favourite metal band at the moment, from tom's ominous voice to the outstanding guitar riffs, they have got to be the best metal band I've ever heard! I am being serious when I say that. One of their most controversial albums is Divine Intervention, which is their first album without Dave Lombardo. It isn't a bad album though, let's just get to the review shall we
Killing Fields:
Wow...what a great way to start an album (NOT) Seriously did Paul Bostaph know what he was doing while recording this? this opening track is a MESS! sloppy instrumentation, tom's whiney vocals, and the ear-piercing guitar riffs all make this one of the worst, if not, the worst opening track of all time! ......okay that was a bit exaggerated. It's not the worst opening track of all time but it is pretty damn close. It's my least favourite slayer song at the moment
1/10
Sex. Murder. Art:
Thankfully, the rest of the album isn't similar to that one song at all. The instrumentation is actually clear and tom's vocals are less whiny and much more aggressive than the previous one. Yeah it's only a minute long but it still reminds me of reign in blood
10/10
Fictional Reality:
This is just one of those songs that are just perfect. This is one of them, the instrumentation is really fast and I also like how the song becomes slower as time goes on. This is just the definition of slayer
10/10
Dittohead:
Remember Necrophobic? well this track is even faster and more brutal. It literally tears you to shreds in under a second! tom's vocals are extremely fast and are hard to mimic as well
10/10
Divine Intervention:
And right one of the best songs off the album comes one of the worst. This is Tom at his worst, with his ear-grating screaming and (Once again) sloppy instrumentation, it has got to be one of the worst slayer songs I've ever heard. I mean, I tried to like it but tom's screaming just annoyed me to death
1/10
Circle Of Beliefs:
Off the rails, makes me wanna headbang so hard my neck breaks in half. Also, tom's vocals are very memorable. Way better than the previous one if I do say so myself
10/10
SS-3:
The catchiest song on the album, without a doubt. There's just something about the instrumentation that makes me wanna dance! although the title is kind of strange in my opinion.
10/10
Serenity In Murder:
Definitely my favourite off the album. The instrumentation is fast and memorable, tom's voice is really ominous at the beginning and this is Paul at his best. I like how he drums just like sonic would before the dramatic happen.
10/10
213:
There's this slight eeriness to this song, I think it's about this cereal killer named Jeffery Dahmer who lived at apartment 213 and killed and raped several boys. That's an ominous backstory if you ask me, not to mention the creepy instrumentation as well. Also, rest in hell Jeffrey
10/10
Mind Control:
Awesome. Do I have to say anything else? 10/10

Reception: Yeah there were a couple bad tracks here and there but overall it is an underrated album which I think deserves more praise, also it really shows the melodic side of Slayer as well.
8/10
Anyway, this is koopa signing out
