I love this song. Joshua Tree was the first U2 album I bought and it is still my favourite. In the Rattle & Hum footage, at about the 4:25 mark you can see them all getting ready for the climactic "extra" verse, and the the camera pulls back to show larryt and the Edge getting into it. It sends chills down my spine every time. I love the extra verse, and don't think any other performance captures the essence of this song like that footage. I could never work out why this extra bit isn't part of the album version. Awesome.

This song... Its, just awesome, it makes me remeber my big brothers who lived their adolescence with u2 and many great bands like pearl jam, faith no more, radiohead, etc... Makes me wonder how were the times when they lived back in the 80 and 90 with my dad in a department listening this, living through bad moments... And now they still listen to this and my too, musically this song is awesome, bono and the edge are fenomenal, great song!

This might not be the best, it would be hard to pick the best. I find it hard to believe that 'All I Want Is You' did not make it on this list at all.. And beautiful day, which is a fun pop song, is not even close to top ten. It seemed like a way to make some fast money, which is awesome for them, but not necessarily the best work for a real fan.

2 One One Cover Art

If I had to pick one song to listen to for all of eternity, it would either be this or Born to Run. This song makes me want to cry every time I listen to it and the message is absolutely beautiful. Bono and his friends really outdid themselves.

with or without you is a good song, it sounds perfect for what it is, but one is a great song that far outdistances with or without you in spite of its rougher sound. there's just more there to one than wowy, which is their second best song.

Hey, I don't give a crap if With or Without You is number one, cause I know One is their best song. Rolling Stone put this above With or Without You on their 500 best songs ever list. There's a reason for it. One is simply the best.

We have a friend who sings for a living and he is awesome, he sing's in Sydney best club's! But he's from a small town called Ballina right next to Byron. He is such a amazingly great singer, every time I watch him he always sings this song for me. Thankyou for writing it

3 Beautiful Day Beautiful Day Cover Art

This was the first song I ever heard by u2 and it's my dad's favourite song and I just love every little detail about this song. I can't think of anything that would make this song more epic than it already is, it's perfect in every way and it never get old. U2 forever.

This is the best U2 song by far because it sounds epic and and it is structured so well and the edges guitar playing is legendary and bono's vocals are sick as but all round the song is awesome

It was a Beautiful Day when this song was released. You can't help but be happy when listening to it, it's such a sweet song. Everything in this song just works, But this was a hard choice, because they have so many AMAZING SONGS.

Brings back memories from primary school. I love this song, it brings up my spirits any time I listen to it so I don't think I'll stop. Best U2 song by far! Great meaning, great beat. What more do you ask for in a song?

4 Sunday Bloody Sunday Sunday Bloody Sunday Cover Art

Forget everythin.. Drum starts, edge enters n den BONO tearing apart his heart n soul just to spread across all d fraternity across as he can. If someone can come up with a supernatural stuff like this, it can only be this great Irish band, the gem of 80's, a gift to the rock genre.

This song is just amazing. Honestly, how is this not unanimously #1? The almost military-esque drumbeat, the beautiful lyrics, the catchy guitar riff. And to top it all off, the live version is just as amazing. Woo!

Best U2 song. This is not a rebel song... When I'm a rockstar I'm going to steal that line, see how the crowd reacts. The best song of the best band ever... And today the millions cry, we eat and drink while tomorrow they die...

This has to be the best protest song I have ever heard. I love it to death! It's amazing and I love the drums on all the songs on the War album, Larry Mullen Jr. must have been pretty happy during that period in time!

5 Where the Streets Have No Name Where the Streets Have No Name Cover Art

This song is about judgement. He and his wife travel on a mission trip to Ethiopia every year. In this country, your class determines the street you live on. So just by knowing the name of your street, someone is already prejudging you. "Where the Streets Have No Name, " is a place that Bono longs for where people are not prejudged in this manner.

I was born to the sound of U2 - no joke. And I've never turned back. This song may have been released years before I first entered the world, but it is by far the greatest thing I've ever heard. This is not U2's best song; this is the world's greatest song. 5th place is not good enough for this masterpiece!

People rate "With or Without You" and "Sunday Bloody Sunday" higher, but in my opinion, this has to be U2's best composition. The Edge's riff here just clings to you from the moment you hear it, and the awesome lyrics and Bono's powerful vocals are simply a treat to the ears. #1 for me without a doubt.

This is the one song that is played at EVERY concert since it's release... It's always built up with a moody track before it then everything turns red and Bam!... The crowd "goes off". This is because it's their BEST song ever. They know it, I know it... And I'm surprised so many others don't know it.

6 I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Cover Art

For me, this song is about having got religion, having got dogma, and the soul still yearns for something more real, that thing, whatever it is, that burns deep within us; forever pushing us to keep exploring, to keep searching, to keep´╗┐ living in the moment, to keep evolving spiritually; forever moving forward and breaking boundaries, both within us, and without us; because in Truth, God has no boundaries and you can't put God in a book or a box and say, "Well, here it is! By George, I think we got it!

For me, this is the best song ever. I can listen to this song for hours, because it feels as if the song never really ends. It's about finding your destiny, about love, about religion, about who you are, about hope, about whatever you want. Everyone can relate to this song, I think. And I will keep listening this beautiful song, because I still haven't found what I'm looking for.

I'm voting for this song because I think it deserves to be at least number 3. With or without you and One are perfectly situated on this list but this song needs to move up a few more notches to number 3 in my opinion. Beautiful song that's so well written and the vocals are just amazing.

What? Are you kiding me?
This song deserves at least a TOP 5!
Come on, people, vote more this song, is the best song ever!
And yes, I Still haven't found what I'm looking for, this song at top 5! ;)

7 Pride (In the Name of Love) Pride (In the Name of Love) Cover Art

This is a great rock song.. The drumming is legendary.. It deserves to be in d top 5.. My list wouldve been as under 1. One 2. Pride 3. I still haven't found 4. With or without you 5. The Fly 6. Sometimes you can't make it on your own 7. Miss Sarajevo 8. Beautiful Day 9. The hands that built america 10. Love is blindness

This song is out standing! It is the best song on the unforgettable fire! The drumming is the best by larry mullen jr and the guitar is just awesome by the Edge and the vocals are sweet and adam is good.

Beautiful Day is an incredibly boring song (unfortunately U2 has been overall quite boring ever since their first four albums) and this song is incredible. How could it be all the way down here at 7?

Pride (in the name of love) is their best song I think. Timeless, brilliant, Inspiring... it just radiates love and passion.

For me:

1. Pride
2. I still haven't found what I'm looking for
3. Where the streets have no name
4. One
5. With or without you

8 New Year's Day New Year's Day Cover Art

Some songs you like the first time you hear them but then they get old. Some songs you don't like at first but they grow on you. Then there are the rare gems like this song...great the first time and still great a million plays later. Great guitar, great vocals, great keyboard to add a melodic feel, great bass and drums for an incredible foundation. It does not get any better than this song.

I remember me laying on my bed, when I turn the radio on and this melody simply pass through my ears, the piano intro, the perfect bass from Clayton... ! This song is simply "orgasmic" :')

Wow what an intro can't be mistaken for any other song um who sang this
Doesn't happen.
Has a great air of mystery like all great songs means all things to all people.
Crashed my car to this on... On a icy New years day.
Singing me chops off lived to tell the tale unlike the car.

Trying to identify the 10 Best U2 songs is like trying to carry 15 perfect, juicy apples in your arms. It's an exercise in futility. But this is my vote for the Best U2 song.

9 Vertigo Vertigo Cover Art

On the surface its about a girl enjoying a night out in a nightclub. But if you know your Bible, it also contains references to Jesus' temptation by the devil. The song conflates the 2nd and 3rd temptations, where the devil takes Jesus up to the top of the temple (hence the sensation of vertigo) and then offers to give Jesus the kingdoms of the world if Jesus just bows down and worships him (Jesus, of course, rejected Satan's offer). I wonder what temptations the girl in the nightclub should be rejecting. Great song!

Actually I was between this and where the streets have no name and voted this 1 because it was lower. This might sound rediculous but I actually don't like some of the top 10 songs at all. I mean sure I had to choose between many but with or wothout u, still haven't found and one werent in those - I know its weird- especially about the 1st 1 but these songs just leave me with a taste of unsatuisfaction in the end

How is this not higher? It is the only U2 song you can listen to just to have fun. No dramatic message, no deep meaning, no politics, just good fun Rock music. They should have more great songs like this one

Ultimate song for me at least! Awesome music, excellent vocals! Can listen to this song over and over again! Seriously should be much higher on the list..

10 Mysterious Ways Mysterious Ways Cover Art

What kind of craziness is this? Scroll down, people and vote this song! The song is rocking! The only thing better than hearing this on a radio is hearing it live.

Still a sonically current song. Edge's guitar effects really stand out, and Bono's portrayal of putting women on a pedestal is an interesting theme.

What? Number 13? People these days:)

My top 5

Mysterious Ways

Magnificent

With Or Without You

Even Better Than The Real Thing (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)

Get On Your Boots

I say nothing more

The chorus can literally send such powerful emotions down one's spine!

The Contenders

11 I Will Follow I Will Follow Cover Art

Best of the bunch and that is saying something. This song is one of my all time favorites from any group. It's a step up from the others. Second would be Where the Streets Have No Name.

Classic! First big U2 hit! How could this song be out of the top 10?
This one could replace Vertigo or City of Blinding Lights which came very late on U2's career!

Definitely second to Sunday bloody Sunday, I mean have you heard the guitar riff on this, it's amazing

THIS IS A U2 CLASSIC deserves to be in top ten.

12 Bad Bad Cover Art

Definitely their best song live. It seems like they can drag the song out forever and it just keeps coming at you, it doesn't fade away at all, if you'll pardon the pun. So many different versions as well. A very emotional song obviously for Bono losing his friend on his 21st Birthday to a heroin overdose, and I think that raw emotion comes out in the live performances.

I've been a huge fan of U2 since forever and as much as I like many of their songs I only love 2 beyond words: All I want is you and this one. Every time I hear Bad I demand silence, and I do get very emotional listening to it. There's only another song in music history that makes me feel like that, and it's Pink Floyd's Wish you were here. That's how great this song is.

So amazing, emotional, heartfelt... Find the versions from Rattle and Hum and Live Aid on YouTube and you will see how it takes on a whole new level of intensity and passion in a live setting. And it has Bono's best-written, most powerful lyrics:

"If I could, through myself, set your spirit free
I'd lead your heart away, see you break, break away
Into the half light, and through the flame"

I can't believe this song isn't higher up the list. Hands down the best song they ever wrote. Not only for the lyrics and the beautiful music, but for what they did with it live. This song transforms a stadium into a miracle - it did for me when I saw them.

13 All I Want is You All I Want is You Cover Art

What the hell!? This should be on the first page, that's probably why it hasn't been pushed up because most people haven't noticed it. This song has the most incredible trance-like riff out of all of U2's songs, and provides the greatest feeling out of any of their songs. It is the only one of their songs which has the ability to make me cry of happiness, that's how powerful it is.

#105? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? What's going on? Its not even on the first page! Give me a break! This is a top 5 song in my opinion, and should be in EVERYBODY'S top 15 or 20.
My top 5:
1. With or Without You
2. Where the Streets Have No Name
3. All I Want is You
4. One
5. Sometimes You Can't Make it on Your Own

All I Want is You to vote for this song!
It's a ballad!

This song is quintessential U2. It's such and simple, moving, effortless love ballad with sweeping orchestral arrangements that make you want to not only sing along with move your hole body to the wave of emotion coming at you. Powerful song. Top 5 for me.

All I Want is You, all the way down here? Listen to this song guys! It just exemplifies so much of what makes U2 great. One of their best pieces instrumentally (the Edge goes off! ), Bono's vocals are fantastic and lyrics are amazing. Definitely top 3 for mine.

14 Walk On Walk On Cover Art

What... the actual... FRICK. This is one of u2's most moving and powerful songs. The message, the passion. It all just works. Bono's lyrics and vocals are amazing, the guitar riff is simple yet stands out as one of their best riffs made, and this song is killer live. Not only is this one of their best songs, but it is THE best closer they have. (Other than with or without you) How is this not in the top 5?

This is #12? Should be in the top FIVE at least. It's my second favorite behind Pride (in the name of love) and I think the problem is nobody has heard it. This is such an amazing song. "You could have flown away... a singing bird in an open cage... that would only fly, only fly for freedom..." now those are some of the best lyrics ever.

This is the song that connects the whole album together, All That You Can't Leave Behind. The live performance is the best out of all songs, and the recording should at least make top 10!

HOW in the name of God is this #31?!?!? Are you people serious? Go and listen to this song right now and tell me it shouldn't be in the top 10.

15 Elevation Elevation Cover Art

This is U2's best song along with Beautiful Day and Vertigo. If you don't agree, you're a mole diggin' in a hole.

One of U2's heavier songs and a very, very catchy one, my personal favourite.

Great song, awesome beat...you cannot help but dance when Elevation is on!

An epic, epic song with clever lyrics and awesome melody

16 City of Blinding Lights City of Blinding Lights Cover Art

I probably won't agree with U2 old school boys, but this song is full of emotions from the beginning till the end. The last of it's kind till now. Perfectly recorded in studio as well as in a live concert, and definitely made to bring down any stadium. Have to listen it!

You have got to be joking with me! 9th?!?! This is an amazing song. Every time that I listen to it, I feel that the city is alive and it's really beautiful. It really brings out the beauty of a city at night. 'Specially NY.

Anyday, this is the best song from U2. U2's live stage performance of this song is so amazing. Full of energy, gets you all pumped up and ready to rock and roll. I don't understand why it isn't in the top 5. It has everything a song needs to be in the top 5.

I like all the songs on the list, but I am voting for this one because it is such a grand scale song. It has a great intro that takes a good amount of time to set up the tone of the song.

17 Even Better Than the Real Thing Even Better Than the Real Thing Cover Art

This is the best song from U2 in my opinion because it epitomizes everything... Beat, lyrics, crazy Edge guitar work, great bass line and they play with the dynamics. Just perfect.

This song is as the title states : even better than the real thing - should definitely be ranked higher

In my opinion "Even Better than the Real Thing" deserves to be in the top-5 of U2.

18 Gloria Gloria Cover Art

First song I ever heard from U2, thanks to MTV. I thought, "Cool, who is this band? " Then a year later, heard New Year's Day, and thought, "Ok, WHO is this band?! "

This guitar work...melody...AWESOME! It's a classic. Really really good!

Surprised this is so far down the list.

Probably my favorite Edge riff

19 Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me Cover Art

Something to headbang to that throws a sprinkle of disturbing material in there.

I like this song alot and agree that it is on the top ten.

Great Song with a great riff by the Edge!

This is such an underrated song.

20 Magnificent Magnificent Cover Art

WHY THIS SONG GETS MY VOTE?

In magnificent, U2 are NOT lyrically very convincing, the song being about two lovers finding 'common ground' and devoting their life to worship, as quoted by Bono. But the fresh composition and clever use of African percussion and other sounds, notably the unique chord progressions and a very supportive bass gave me an almost transcendental listening experience.

Magnificent was the highlight of it's album but wasn't a chart topper, maybe because that album was too much experimental in conception.

The song might never be mentioned along with the likes of one, Beautiful day, WOWY, WTSHNN, Pride, Sunday Bloody Sunday or even lesser mass favourites such as All I want is you, vertigo etc, but the fact is that it had me hooked on to it for almost 2 years and I used to listen to it at least twice/thrice daily for that period GETS IT MY VOTE. It's not the best but being the first U2 song that I heard, it introduced me to the awesome U2 and ...more

Awesome song... No doubt one of the best song of u2. This song magnificent is really magnificent. Hey guys please vote for this song. This song is awesome cool. Just listen to it, specially the guitar portion is awesome. And of course it... Should be in top 3

Magnificent is awesome I prefer it good because it's got a feel that not every song have and what not it's got the perfect tune and touchy feel also not every song is meant like this but magnificent is just magnificent

Why the hell is this so low in the list. I expected it to be number one or at least in the top 5. Before you vote, listen to this. It you like U2 you will love this song. I still can't believe this is #22 on the list. This is epicly powerful.

21 Kite Kite Cover Art

"This song is about letting go of somebody you don't wanna let go of..
Could be a lover, could be a father, could be a friend, could be a child, this is Kite."
Bono is legendary!
Definitely, one of U2's most under-rated song!
The emotion behind this song is just overwhelming.

Oh my word! It can't be possible for one band to make this much good music! This song is simply Amazing. The words are meaningful, in true U2 style. But the music! Flip Banana!

Inspirational and beautiful message. Incredible song and one of the greatest of they're work.

What to say! I simply marvellous.. What a tune

22 The Unforgettable Fire The Unforgettable Fire Cover Art

Very under-rated. It deserves to be in the top ten at the very least.
"Ice
Your only rivers run cold
These city lights
They shine as silver and gold
Dug from the night
Your eyes as black as coal"
The song is gripping from the very start with its profound lyrics and ambient guitar play

This song makes me get two kinds of emotion.
First, there is this emotion of being on a party but going outside, a feeling not to explain, just to feel on parties or anything.
On the other hand, there is this emotion of pure feelings rising up, so hard they sometimes make me cry.

SEVERELY underrated. It's very touching and has mature, meaningful lyrics that I think everyone can relate to at some point of their life. Vote this up into at least top 20, Please!

Brian Eno pulled so much out of them to change their sound and this song and album are so underrated. I can listen to this album side to side to side to side all day. Every song is a soul toucher. This song reminds me of falling in love back in the 80s with a very interesting girl. That is the thing about U2 so many of their songs put you to a place and point of reference in your life. They are truly beyond belief.

23 October October Cover Art

How can this be 79? It's easily one of their top 3, and one of the top 20 songs of all time, by anyone

24 Ultraviolet (Light My Way) Ultraviolet (Light My Way) Cover Art

I have been listening to U2 for A LONG TIME and I always come back to this one. Actung Baby gave us many great songs and Ultraviolet, although not everyones favourite, is a stand out for me. It is great in all of it's incarnations. I absolutely love the 360 degree dvd version, stoked that it made it on to U22!

Great studio song but the live version from the zoo T.V. tour is even better. Personally I favor the lower key they play it in live over the studio, but they're both amazing songs. Bono does such a good job with the vocals.

One of the greatest songs of all time. Incredible in every way imaginable.

U2 themselves have said this is their most complete song

25 If God Will Send His Angels If God Will Send His Angels Cover Art

Iris got all the attention, but listen to the album again. This is by far the best song from the City of Angels soundtrack, a soundtrack that ranks among the best ever.

I love this song... it's always been one of my favorites by this band... and not many people are familiar with it... just a beautiful piece of work!

Easily one of U2's best songs. Should be higher, however POP never got the recognition that it did deserve

This is my favorite song of this band... How can it not be popular..
