The band has sold over 28 million albums more.

Without Rainbow, none of these bands would exist

The true metal epicness started here: Stargazer, Gates Of Babylon, A Light In The Black.
Highly recommended:
Difficult To Cure (a metal instrumental, which is a Beethoven cover, Ode To Joy).
It's an AWESOME Beethoven interpretation - Beethoven just went heavy metal! And you will get that symphonic metal feel. - Metal_Treasure

22 Northern Kings
23 Sabaton Sabaton Sabaton is a power metal band from Falun, Sweden formed in 1999. The band's main lyrical themes are based on war and historical battles.

They don't have symphonic elements in their music. - Metal_Treasure

Great band but they are not symphonic / power metal and I am surprised to see them on this list. - Metal_Treasure

Iron maiden is the best

Iron Maiden is simply the one of the best bands ever, the music, the vocals and the lyrics all come together in a blast of awesomeness^^

26 Twilight Force

I can't believe these guys are not on the list. My three favorite Power metal bands are Dragonforce, Falconer and in Third is Twilight-Force. In Europe, Twilight Force opens for Sabaton, a headlining act. In the states we get Sabaton opening for Trivium? What's with that?... It's lame

28 Serenity

Completely underrated austrian band with very good symphonic elements

29 Damnation Angels
30 Trans-Siberian Orchestra Trans-Siberian Orchestra Trans-Siberian Orchestra is an American progressive rock band founded in 1996 by producer, composer, and lyricist Paul O'Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team.

The best for Christmas songs. and they sound like dream theater at times.

31 Dreamtale

I was very surprised not to find this band on the list, maybe not at the top but still. If you don't know this guys, you should really check them out. Starter Pack : firebird, two hundreds men, secret door ( lyrics are strong with this one. ), and much more to discover if you're willing to. No pressure, just sharing something I consider very special.

32 Falconer

Some of the smartest lyrics I have heard, totally different Vocals from a London trained stage performer. Every Album with Mathias Blad is awesome

33 Dimmu Borgir Dimmu Borgir Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Oslo, Norway, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse.

If Cradle of filth ever gets added to this list. I hope it gets deserted. This band has everything. Symphony, screams, powerful lyrics and thumping riffs. Needs to be at number 2.

This music is full of talent, unlike rivals Cradle of Filth which ruin symphonic black metal with stupid banshee shrieks.

34 Dream Evil
35 HammerFall HammerFall HammerFall is a Swedish heavy metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was formed in 1993 by ex-Ceremonial Oath guitarist Oscar Dronjak.

Rock hard metal from the heart of Sweden, driving riffs and the solos are most of the time very blistering, that uses shredding quite a bit, definitely up there

36 Dream Theater Dream Theater Dream Theater is an American progressive metal band. The band was formed in 1985 under the name of "Majesty", but had to change its name to Dream Theater later. more.

It's not power metal at all.. And it's not even Symphonic Metal... But when the poll circled around, almost everyone asked "Does Dream Theater count? Can I include this band? "...

Because of it's popularity and absolutely brilliant technicality, it deserves a spot on this list, despite its genre.

Prog rock/metal. Not power/symphonic metal. - zxm

Why would someone make a stupid comment like add dream theater to this list is like adding MJ, Dream Theater is in the same genre, the right comparison would be adding Metallica to the list.

No, DT don't belong and their general popularity outside power/symphonic metal can't be a reason. Somebody may insist on including Michael Jackson, too. He's even more popular than DT, haha. - Metal_Treasure

37 Evanescence Evanescence Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1995 by singer/pianist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody.

Not sure but don't think they're power/symphonic metal band. - zxm

Check out their metal covers of Vivaldi's Summer and Beethoven's 5th. Amazing. - Metal_Treasure
