This was the 5th movie that made the most money of 2016, so it wasn't a flop.
'Ben Hur' was the years biggest bomb losing over $100M, and judging by it's reviews was way worse than 'Ghostbusters', but because the cast wasn't gender swapped or people didn't have as many agendas to push with this movie that somehow made it not as bad?
I'll never understand the mentality of some people.

Sadly this film never made it to half of its predecessor’s revenue, which grossed over $800 million two decades ago. But I watched it, and it was still a decent sequel.
