I swear, I saw it coming...
This was such a serious event. This underwater volcanic eruption was so powerful that it sent sound waves so loud that they were heard thousands of miles away. Even Alaska (which's nearly a whopping 6000 miles from it) heard it though due to the way ice affects sound waves. But that's not where the main story lies, it was also powerful enough to send tsunamis though by the time Tonga island was hit, it wasn't nearly as tall as what Krakatoa delivered, but it caused lots of flooding. The ash was shot up ~20 km into the sky, indicating a volcanic explosivity index of 6. So far there were no reports of deaths or injuries, but the lack of such reports was only due to the power outages. There's NO way anyone could ever imagine how horrifying this was & that word couldn't even describe it. Not to mention that much ash is enough to block out sunlight to the point that cooling down our atmosphere where plants won't get enough sunlight to grow & make enough food, meaning greater risk of food shortages & even famines around the world. Tambora, Krakatoa & Novarupta did all that. Prayers to all the victims & the city of Tonga (along with others) in this eruption of many generations.
