Since Jack Johnson lost the heavyweight Championship, the sport of boxing found that great white hope in Jess Willard. Now it was July 4, 1919 and Willard had been inactive since 1916 and looked rusty as he ready to defend his heavyweight title against a hungry Jack Dempsey who in the last 2 years went undefeated with 31 wins and 3 draws. The stage was set for a memorable first round in which Dempsey dropped Willard 7 times and Willard never recovered as he lost the heavyweight title to Dempsey.
