Best Book Characters
The Top Ten
Funny, genuine, empathetic and charismatic, it was a true pleasure to get inside your head and follow your adventures Percy.
The best character ever - Captain-Marverica
There's never a dull moment with Percy in play.
Percy is amazing, you better vote Percy
Perfect. Without Hermione, Harry And Ron Would Be Dead. Hermione Doesn't Get Enough Credit. She Really Is The Bright Witch Of Her Age - thenextsteplover
The brightest witch
Hermione's amazing... she shouldn't have gotten Ron.
God I love everything about her - Captain-Marverica
Alright, guys, no matter what anyone says, KATNISS IS NOT A MARY SUE!
She's such a important character - Captain-Marverica
I'd say at least the most relatable character. - MaxAurelius
She's the best!
My favorite prophecy dragonet.
Tsunami? WhErE's OrIgInAlItY
OH MY GOSH! MY FAVORITE WINGS OF FIRE CHARACTER MADE IT TO THE TOP TENS LIST! REE! - ArcticWolf
NOW IN FIFTH OH MY GOSH! - ArcticWolf
He is so funny I love his chapter
I don't care what the actual plot is, as long as there's Leo it's my favorite scene. My astronomy sign is a Leo, and I plan to name my first son Leo after him.
When the series gets dark, so dark you want to set down the books and walk away, Leo will come in and keep you reading. He makes the reader laugh in an unpleasant place in the book. The secret of his fire power he keeps in the beginning of the HoO series pulls you into his character, giving you a glimpse into a mystery. Even after its revealed, he continues to be hilarious. His death made me cry, then I felt stupid when I realized he didn't die. His relationship with Calypso adds even more to his character. He actually has flaws, something that every good character needs. He is in my opinion the best character out of all Rick Riordan's books and deserves a higher spot on the list.
"I don't think. It interferes with being nuts." - Leo Valdez
Lol...she the widest in the world, I love it...and am I the only one how kinda thought she a harry would have been and cute couple? I mean ginny's and fangirl.
Oh my gosh I was so sad when dad said Luna was taken by da ministry
Sweet, innocent, Luna deserves to be in the top 5. She is just the most wise, kind, smart, and optimistic book characters of all time and deserves so much more. Now, I'm gonna stop typing because, if I don't, I'll write a full page on how helpful Luna was.
Thank God that Luna is in the top 5. I mean why wouldn't she. Luna is smart, funny and overall a good friend. When Harry couldn't find the Ravenclaw diadem who knew? Luna of course, she told Harry where "the white lady" was and she found Harry when he was abandoned and left with a bloody noose on the Hogwarts express. I can honestly say that Luna is one of the best characters ever.
An old man
While Dumbledore isn't a perfect person, he's a brilliantly accomplished wizard. He's so perceptive, attempts to do the right thing. He also has a sense of humour. Inspite of all his shortcomings and mistakes, he's a genius. Any number of adjectives will be less than enough for this magnificent "barmy old codger".
He can rewrite the bible
I was going to vote for hermione granger but I knew hazel would be somewhere here so I kept it - pouria_mt
She's deep, philosophical and very relatable. - Starsparks
She is so inspiring
She should be higher on the list - Captain-Marverica
Smart, witty, and fed up with Hera. who doesn't love her. she was the first character I would ever relate to
I am sticking with that response - crazycat99
Why isn't she in the top 5? - crazycat99
How are Hermione are Luna Lovegood above Peeta? He is the best character (besides Finnick Odair, but nobody is better than Finnick) and is way better than any Harry Potter characters.
Peeta is amazing and he doesn't need ANYBODY to save him because he can save himself! He is my favorite character out of all the books I have ever read (which is a lot of books) so I don't understand why he is not number 1!
You mean that little brat who needed katniss to save his ass every 5 seconds. Peeta is a little girl, even Sofia The First is more masculine than him! - missyweirdo
Same as Katniss.
Put him in top 10 he deserves it - jackjack1
I LOVED The Hidden Kingdom, my favorite of the first arc
Coolest one here
Yay! Glory made it to the Top Tens! - ArcticWolf
We need to get her higher, y’all! Sarcastic, intelligent, underestimated, grumpy, cranky, brave, amazing! Plus, she has MAGICAL DEATH SPIT
She's an annoying stubborn whiner. Sorry. Uriah all the way! HE IS THE BEST DIVERGENT
How in all the goodness if this earth did anybody ever think that TRIS PRIOR is the best book character of all time?!?!? HOW?!?!
I know! She's not even in my personal top ten ya dystopian heroines - FavoriteFightingFrenchman
How is Tris even on this? - thalia_thatsme
Honestly, she could kick katniss's ASS any day - missyweirdo
Oh my god he is so brave he should be number 1
WHY isn't he top 10? WHY YOU PEOPLE?!?!?!
Harry Potter not in the top ten? Kill me.
He's not the exact reason why we love the series, but come on! Give him credit- he's a preteen-teenager in the books. Literally, teenagers are practically like that, whether they think so or not. (Which I understand)
He should be top five he is the best
He is a cool and brave character.
He is the best fictional character ever.
More like the vice - hero of Harry Potter! Go snape!
He is cool
Dark, mysterious, unique and always keeping the reader guessing until the very end. Snape is a character you will hate the more you read about him, until, suddenly, there's nothing left to read, and you feel very different indeed. - MrKite
Totally love her character. She is honest and sincere, strong and unashamed of being herself and it's cute how she cares for her sister Jane.
Elizabeth Bennet deserves to be higher on this list! She's quick-witted, brave and clever. - Starsparks
Ehh.. he was nice at first but he always blamed his. Sister,Olivia for trying to have a normal life
August Pullman is clever, brave and forgives people even after they have hurt him for an entire book. - Starsparks
That kid is awesome
A great wings of fire character
I've never heard of this 'Sunny.'
OOH, it's the baby from a Series of Unfortunate Events, right? Meh, still sucks.
I like both of the characters. Coincidentally, they both get trapped in cages. - MaxAurelius
Does not get enough credit.
Finnick. There really aren't words that can describe how I felt when he died. I've read hundreds of books throughout my 13 years on this planet, and I rarely get attached to characters. But with Finnick, I think a lot of people just can't help but love him. Finnick is by far my favorite book character of all time.
18th? Seriously? Finnick deserves to be at least in the top 3!
I hate them lizard mutts.
Now I have a grudge against lizards.
If TYRION is NOT no. 1... I don't know what could be.
The Audacity he has to stand up to his family though... #teamtyrion
Lord of the rings is da best
A day may come, when Aragorn arrives at 26th in a Top Tens List! But it is not this day! This day we VOTE! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you STAND, MEN OF THE WEST! - SpaceHazard
This guy should be higher - and Legolas. Seriously, Legolas and Gimli aren't even on this list. That's why I voted for Aragorn cause he's their friend and there was no one else. Needs to be more LoTR and The Hobbit characters on here.
Damn, what happened?! This guy beats EVERY OTHER CHARACTER in ALL da books I've read. Seriously. Why isn't he and Legolas higher?! I hate you people. Yes, I have read Harry Potter to know that Lord of the Rings beats all... - Ash_lovesLOTR
In my opinion Nico di Angelo had the most heart breaking story ( I still am angered at Hades for saying IN HIS FACE that he liked his sister Bianca better while he was still mourning over her death), was dire to the story in both prophecies, and had the most character development out of every character in the entire book. When this is posted he is currently at number 104 and I am just like "how"? Some dark part of the fandom thinks he is overrated yet he is behind Percy and Leo. Also original.
Nico is the best search up all seven names and look at fan art amazing
Him and will?
THE CUTEST SHIP EVER - CloudyDaze
I feel for the guy. he has been through so much. he deserves the world.
Probably my most favorite book series that made me love reading
Like Artemis Fowl? In that case YES!
I love Peril so much. Why only 1%? She's blazing!
Favorite character though I'm a boy
Best Dragon ever and I'm a boy
God hortons so hot
This needs more votes
I am in love - joemamabruh
I'm scrolling down this list seeing all these inspiring, amazing characters, and then I see Horton...
Why the hell not? Why's like the hyperactive younger sister that you never wanted. Well, maybe not family, but not someone you'd ever want to go away.
She’s one of the better things about those books - blackflower
Thank you Mr. Twain
Hopefully this person is a Goddess Girls fan…
Most famous detective of all time
The one character who has defined mannerisms. Nobody else comes even close. You say you want "layered" characters. How about a believable person that has their quirks? Not everyone needs to have had their family shot dead.
He must be in top 5
Hell yes I love sherlock holmes
Ment to vote for cinder pelt from warrior cats. The books were not great but cinder pelt was swag
Awesome hilarious assassin dragon from the wings of fire series
Awesome hilarious laugh out loud assasin
A hilarious assassin from the wof series
I had to add it! - ArcticWolf
Without Greg, I would not be alive today. He saved me! - missyweirdo
Greg does not deserve to be on this list! Honestly, his greatest achievement is sneaking into a girl's bathroom! No kidding! He is whiny, and struggles to be himself, ruining everyone's life in the process! He is mean to his friend, Rowley, and avoids this dude, Fregley, just because he has a bad reputation, when in reality, he is brave enough to stick up for himself, when Greg can't even except himself for who he is...get a life, Greg!
Look above and below this entry. Those are truly layered characters. Not to offend anyone, but Greg is simply not up to par with either of those two (currently Finnick Odair below and Tsunami above). - Cyri
Greg hasn't don much has he. Andrei Bolkonsky left his family, and his love interest Natasha, to help repel Napoleon's invasion of Russia. Hercule Poirot managed to solve many murder cases. What has Greg Heffley done? - jezza0
So young so talented
She's smart and inventive... I want to be her
I love violet she’s such a good inventer
My favourite book character.
I was so sad when he died
"GO TO FIRST DOBBY! " "DOBBY BE A FREE ELF! "
And that my friends is why dobby is not higher - CloudyDaze
Dobby is the Best! "Master has giving Dobby a sock? Dobby is FREE! " "You shall not harm Harry Potter"
He is the kindest character ever!
There's too many characters from young adult novels at the top of the list. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of those characters, but we shouldn't forget about amazing and influential characters like Atticus Finch. - Atham
It should be a crime for him to be this low. He's an incredibly well written and respectable character we can all learn from. - Atham
I'm guessing there's a lot of youngsters on here, or else Atticus would be a lot higher and all the Tweener/Millennial characters would be a lot lower. - truckturner
God, I'm rereading the first book and I'm just like he was so perfect and young.
Warriors yes... I love Firestar
Firestar is great until he wasn't.
I agree. Fire will save the clan.
Best shape shifter ever
YESS! I am so glad that Frank is on this list, even if he's not in the top 10. He really doesn't get enough credit.
Clay is another playful dragon who is a mudwing in the series Wings Of Fire, and I think he's the main character too. Probably so, and I just love the way is so sweet and non-fitting in :3 :3 :3
Apparently she’s best mum ever
She is the best person in the entire world. Change my mind (you won’t be able to)
She's intelligent and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Not bad for a nineteenth century girl! - Starsparks
Okay, she’s not my favorite, but I voted for her because she deserves to be voted for, does that make sense?
He is such a lovely nice king and he s brave you will see how brave he is if you have read the early years - Potterhead2001
