Best Book Characters

The Top Ten
Percy Jackson Perseus "Percy" Jackson is a fictional character, the title character and narrator of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & the Olympians series.

"Percy is a Mary Sue" "Percy is too powerful" "Percy is too flawless" "Percy is unrelatable" Really? Are you sure? Percy is sassy, hilarious, brave, determined, and loyal — the traits that made me fall in love with him when I first started Camp Half-Blood Chronicles. But despite this, he is not flawless, as many people suggest. Percy is loyal to the point where he'd sacrifice the world for a loved one, and I also thought when given a choice between things that both mattered, he couldn't discern or let go of the option that mattered less. Plus he has ADHD and dyslexia, which is probably very hard to deal with, seeing as you have to be able to read if you're going to mingle in society. But Percy overcomes his flaws, all his quests, and even Tartarus with his best qualities, which is absolutely something that fans and haters alike should applaud him for.

People who say you are a horrible character are just haters who cannot back up their opinion whatsoever, Percy. Keep it up :3

Percy is the most likable character I've ever met, and he's not anywhere CLOSE to a Mary Sue. He's stuck with ADHD and Dyslexia, and constantly saving the world, and yet he still puts up with it with his sassy, loyal, and adorably oblivious attitude!

Percy did so much for his friends and is actually really relatable. He has darkish thoughts sometimes but is upbeat, funny and super loyal...AKA his fatal flaw. Dude, honestly, I love him more than I like Harry Potter and that’s saying a lot.

How can you not love percy? He's an awesome mixture of sassy, loyal, and can also be a bit oblivious sometimes. He's an overall great guy(and a total mommas boy) and is still so nice to everyone even after everything that he's been through. He saved the world twice(with help of course) but he's so humble about it. I would love to have a friend like percy.

Hermione Granger

Inspiring for girls AND boys. Hermione Granger is my childhood hero and nothing stands in her way. She fights for whatever she believes in (ex: S.P.E.W, punching draco, etc). She's so real to me and pretty much EVERY girl wanted to dress up as her for halloween at some point right? I mean why wouldn't you want to be the brave, intelligent, loving, feisty Hermione! :)

How come Hermione is below Percy Jackson? Anyways, Hermione is the BEST character ever, she saved both Ron and Harry’s life about a million times, and what does Percy do. No offense, I do enjoy the Percy Jackson series

Let’s be real, without Hermione, Harry and Ron would have been dead in the first book. She is smart, beautiful, brave, and an amazing role model for all girls (and boys!) Not to mention, she has a feisty side too. That time when she punched Draco in the face.. that was amazing.

She's funny, smart and generous. If it wasn't for her, Ron, Harry and probably the entirety of Hogwarts would have little x's where there eyes should be. Not only does she stand up to Draco Malfoy, but she stands up to anyone that treats her disrespectfully. A true heroine. -

Katniss Everdeen Katniss Everdeen is a fictional character and the protagonist of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. She is portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence in the film adaptation franchise.

Katniss Everdeen is awesome! She's brave, determined, and a strong character. She's smart and amazing and the perfect Mockingjay.

Katniss is brave, selfless, wise, and she's always there when her friends are needed. She has a very strong personality which I think is a wonderful thing, and she did a wonderful job of being the mocking jay, though she couldn't protect everyone around her. I love Katniss so much, she is a awesome character!

Now, I don't read The Hunger Games a lot but heck, WHO CARES!?!? Well she seems tough to me so I like her + she sacrificed herself for her sis as a volunteer to save her from being picked to go in so she kinda cool.

She is the best character ever! She has an awesome personality and is just really cool! The whole trilogy was amazing! Even though she made an very, VERY stupid decison getting together with PeEtA becouse Gale would have been a way better choice.

Leo Valdez Leo Valdez is a character from the book series Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan. He is one of the seven heroes in the Prophecy of Seven. He is a Greek demigod and is the son of Hephaestus, and has the ability to create and manipulate fire (pyrokinesis).

When the series gets dark, so dark you want to set down the books and walk away, Leo will come in and keep you reading. He makes the reader laugh in an unpleasant place in the book. The secret of his fire power he keeps in the beginning of the HoO series pulls you into his character, giving you a glimpse into a mystery. Even after its revealed, he continues to be hilarious. His death made me cry, then I felt stupid when I realized he didn't die. His relationship with Calypso adds even more to his character. He actually has flaws, something that every good character needs. He is in my opinion the best character out of all Rick Riordan's books and deserves a higher spot on the list.

Omgs Team Leo for the win! He is my favorite percy jackson character. I love his personality and his sense of humor. He hides his pain with jokes and laughter and always tries to lighten the mood. I don't get why anyone wouldn't like him. I'm so glad he has calypso to make him happy(and keep him under control), he deserves happiness.

Leo might seem all happy and the useless character, but he's the most broken and he deserves more love and support, and he's not useless, without him, Gaea wouldn't be defeated at all. He's one of the most important characters in HOO.

Leo! Leo is amazing. He acts as a comic relief, and is hilariously funny, but he has his own story too. His narrations are really funny, and he has great character development. Way to go Leo!

Annabeth Chase Annabeth Chase is a daughter of Athena and one of the main characters of both the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series and the Heroes of Olympus series. She's also Percy Jackson's girlfriend and has no particular powers aside from her brains and tactics.

Not exactly Percy's sidekick, as suggested by the Golden Boy (I totally forgot how to spell his name) in the Mark of Athena. In the Percy Jackson & the Olympians series, she's a bit moody, but kind of makes up for it by the Battle of the Labyrinth and later. She's sarcastic and funny, at times, but usually that's left to Percy (and later, Leo.)

She's amazing and ,like percy, is nice to almost everyone after all she's been through. She's really tough and is definitely a true daughter of Athena. I can totally picture her running away when she was seven and fighting monsters with a hammer. lol.

Annabeth is way better than any one in the Percy Jackson series. As a daughter of Athena, she naturally has brains and has good advice

She kicks butt. While looking gorgeous. and being smart. What's better than a strong female heroine that's nobody's sidekick? Annabeth Chase.

Luna Lovegood Luna Lovegood was a witch from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. She was the only child of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. Her mother accidentally died while experimenting with spells when Luna was nine and Luna was raised by her father, who was the editor of the magazine The Quibbler, in a more.

Luna Lovegood. Where to start? First, she's kind, creative, eccentric, and super wise. She's witty, brave, and my favorite Harry Potter character.

Luna never stops to share what she believes, even though she gets teased and mistreated a lot for it. I can relate to her, most people at my school say I'm weird too.

Luna is my favourite character of all time! She just passed Neville Longbottom. She taught me Ravenclaw fonts just mean smart. It weans being unique different witty brave kind generous and much more

As a younger child reading the Harry Potter series, I instantly fell in love with this character. She was an eccentric, non-conventional child that instantly struck a chord with me child-me. Was she intelligent? Without a doubt. But she also didn't fit into the stereotypical nerd category, which was definitely a breath of fresh air from the typical nerdy characters. (Don't get me wrong, I adore Hermione, I just loved Luna's uniqueness).

Harry Potter Harry James Potter is the title character of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The majority of the books' plot covers seven years in the life of the orphan Potter, who, on his eleventh birthday, learns he is a wizard.

He's not the exact reason why we love the series, but come on! Give him credit- he's a preteen-teenager in the books. Literally, teenagers are practically like that, whether they think so or not. (Which I understand)

Harry Potter is the best character ever! How COULD he possibly not be in the top 3? He is awesome

The Chosen one. Not afraid to die risked his own life to save others.

Harry Potter, not even in the top ten. :/ Ahem, people.

GO TSUNAMI! Best wings of fire character! Gas troubles but gets through them. (Yes people might think Glory is better but HOW?! Glory is powerless without her Venom!)

Tsunami is so brave and protective. She would do ANYTHING to save her friends! She is also the best at fighting out of all the dragonets of destiny. Her glow-in-the-dark scales are AWESOME! I also love how she can breathe underwater. You should vote for Tsunami of Wings of Fire!
GO, TSUNAMI! (Chants)

All of my friends say I'm just like her and I absolutely love her, but why do we have the graphic novel Tsunami here...? She is prettier on the real book.

No. No no no no no.
Just no.
If you want a REAL good character, look at Glory.
Tsunami...Oh gosh. She whines when she doesn't get her way, her first reaction is fighting. And she just can't stand being wrong. Sorry if this offends anyone, I do not mean to be rude.

Hazel Lancaster

I was going to vote for hermione granger but I knew hazel would be somewhere here so I kept it

Her perspective on life broke me but made me realise how great my life really is

She's deep, philosophical and very relatable.

She is so inspiring

Connor Lassiter

"Nice socks." That is kind of like his trademark phrase. The picture does him justice, too, and Unwind fan art isn't nearly as common as Percy Jackson fan art or anything like that

Like I said in my remix, Connor is basically what Percy is, but mortal: He's a fighter, leader, a bit impulsive in the first book, caring person and so on.

The Contenders
Peeta Mellark

Peeta is amazing and he doesn't need ANYBODY to save him because he can save himself! He is my favorite character out of all the books I have ever read (which is a lot of books) so I don't understand why he is not number 1!

Peeta needs no one to save him in fact Katniss actually needs her to save him and by the way Katniss and Peeta can BOTH kick Tris Priors ass separately so don't go dissing on my favorite characters just because you have a poor opinion missyweirdo.

How are Hermione are Luna Lovegood above Peeta? He is the best character (besides Finnick Odair, but nobody is better than Finnick) and is way better than any Harry Potter characters.

You mean that little brat who needed katniss to save his ass every 5 seconds. Peeta is a little girl, even Sofia The First is more masculine than him!

Glory is my favourite book character-- I mean, who wouldn't like her?! Sarcastic, caring, kind and beautiful. She is WONDERFUL! I love her! Please vote for Glory of Wings of Fire-- plus, she has MAGICAL DEATH SPIT! Woo-

Glory is sarcastic, smart, funny, and a great character. She's willing to do anything for her friends and is a just, fair queen.

Any dragon that can spit poison from their fangs is awesome. Not to mention the camoufluage, to make them impossible to see.

Glory is brave, sarcastic, snarky, and smart! She's also willing to protect her friends and her tribe

Nico di Angelo Nico di Angelo is a fictional character created by Rick Riordan. He appears in Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Hero of Olympus, and parts of Trials of Apollo. As a son of Hades, the boy is a demigod. He befriended Percy and had many roles in his long time appearance including stopping Minos, fighting more.

In my opinion, Nico di Angelo had the most heartbreaking story (I still am angered at Hades for saying IN HIS FACE that he liked his sister Bianca better while he was still mourning over her death), was dire to the story in both prophecies, and had the most character development out of every character in the entire book. When this is posted, he is currently at number 104 and I am just like "how"? Some dark part of the fandom thinks he is overrated, yet he is behind Percy and Leo. Also original.

I feel him. He's been through a lot of prejudice and he's an example that no matter who we are, child of Hades, gay, etc. we all can find happiness.

He was the only one to fight in all three wars. He's not as good as Percy, but still an incredible character.

I like nico because he is very different from every other percy Jackson character, he is a son of hades!

Aragorn - Lord of the Rings Aragorn II, the son of Arathorn II and Gilraen, is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's legendarium and is one of the main protagonists of The Lord of the Rings. He was a great ranger and warrior, and as Isildur's heir he bore the shards of Narsil, reforged and renamed Andúril, in the War more.

A day may come, when Aragorn arrives at 26th in a Top Tens List! But it is not this day! This day we VOTE! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you STAND, MEN OF THE WEST!

This guy should be higher - and Legolas. Seriously, Legolas and Gimli aren't even on this list. That's why I voted for Aragorn cause he's their friend and there was no one else. Needs to be more LoTR and The Hobbit characters on here.

Aragorn needs to be higher. He's the heir of Isildur and the king of Gondor, he should be higher!

The one true king of men

Severus Snape Severus Snape is a fictional character in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. He is characterised as a person of great complexity, whose coldly sarcastic and controlled exterior conceals deep emotions and anguish.

Dark, mysterious, unique and always keeping the reader guessing until the very end. Snape is a character you will hate the more you read about him, until, suddenly, there's nothing left to read, and you feel very different indeed.

I think he was the real hero. He loved Lily so he spent his life Protecting harry.

He managed to trick everyone that he is a good guy. A good actor

He is an awesome character and Id think I need to explain

Frank Zhang

Not my favorite of the seven, but he's vital (especially in the House of Hades.) And he's more useful than Piper. She's all about charmspeak and her now not-so-prophetic dagger.

YESS! I am so glad that Frank is on this list, even if he's not in the top 10. He really doesn't get enough credit.

Best shape shifter ever

Ugh so fluffy

Risa Ward

Risa is basically the indirect reason that Connor was trusted with the Graveyard. Had it not been for her, he would've been unwound for getting into fights, most likely. (Also, I think the picture is just a little too...revealing. But, Risa is a good character. I guess it's better than other visuals that just look wrong.)

I know the comparisons might be a little annoying, but she's kind of the AWOL version of Annabeth. She reigns in Connor's rage and tells him not to be impulsive and whatnot, while Connor is all about doing whatever it takes to survive, in the first book. Can you see where I'm coming from?

Sirius Black

Sirius is brave, willing to do anything for his godson, and is a great character all around. He is also very clever - he invented the Marauder's Map and learned to become an Animagus while he was still at Hogwarts!

Are you Sirius? This man is one of the most misunderstood characters in the whole series, for literally half of the series he's claimed as a traitor and we only get a sliver of him, then he gets killed.

Ah, Sirius. As soon as I realized who he really was, I loved him. James Potter’s best friend and Harry’s godfather. He’s funny, selfless, and yes, an idiot. The Marauders fanfictions I’ve read just make me love him more.

He would have been (and was) and amazing godfather to harry. I cried so hard when he died.

Elizabeth Bennet

Totally love her character. She is honest and sincere, strong and unashamed of being herself and it's cute how she cares for her sister Jane.

Elizabeth Bennet deserves to be higher on this list! She's quick-witted, brave and clever.

Sunny is smart, kind, and probably the protagonist of the best Wings of Fire book, for me tied with Darkstalker Legends. It's the ending to a great first arc for Wings of Fire and the best Wings of Fire book that's part of the main series (again, tied with Darkstalker Legends.)

Sunny is optimistic, sweet, and kind, but also underestimated. Everyone thinks she's sweet and that's all anyone needs to know about her, but she's actually really smart and intelligent.

My best friend is exactly like her.

A great wings of fire character

Finn (Incarceron)

So... I haven't read Incarceron, but the gist is clear to me (thanks, to Goodreads): Micro-humans trying to get out of their living hell. Finn is basically their leader, who gets out. It sounds like an interesting book. I'm gonna buy it. Eventually.

Finn, better known as Prince Giles, Outside of Incarceron is the only character who I was rooting for (except Jared and maybe Attia.) Finn is the kindest person to live in Incarceron, but he's also hardened up by being in the living jail.

Finnick Odair - The Hunger Games

Finnick. There really aren't words that can describe how I felt when he died. I've read hundreds of books throughout my 13 years on this planet, and I rarely get attached to characters. But with Finnick, I think a lot of people just can't help but love him. Finnick is by far my favorite book character of all time.

They killed off all of my favorites...he's my second favorite because I really like Clove for some reason

I have never been so attached to a character. When Finnick died, I cried so hard. RIP Finnick.

At first I hated Finnick, but at the end of the series I loved him so much.

Tyrion Lannister Tyrion Lannister is a fictional character in A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by American author George R. R. Martin, and its television adaptation Game of Thrones. In Game of Thrones, the character is portrayed by Peter Dinklage.

The Audacity he has to stand up to his family though... #teamtyrion

If TYRION is NOT no. 1... I don't know what could be.

Tris Prior

Tris Prior is a beast! Changing from 'stiff' rules to almost no rules is a huge choice. AND she was good at the change and graduated from her initiate class. Also, Four is really cool.

How in all the goodness if this earth did anybody ever think that TRIS PRIOR is the best book character of all time?!?!? HOW?!?!

Missyweirdo, you obviously can't tell a good character from a bad one. Tris is so stupid. Katniss would kick her ass in five seconds. Stop dissing on my slay queen and read the books :(

Tris all the way! She's sooo selfless, and anybody who disses on her is dead to me!

August Pullman

August Pullman is clever, brave and forgives people even after they have hurt him for an entire book.

He was good in the book, but absolutely terrible in the movie

August Pullman was three-dimensional.

I feel bad for him Murphy 6
