The Top Ten

1 Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell

"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."
The brilliant opening sentence to the most powerful dystopian novel ever. - PetSounds

2 The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald

A very quick read, yet such an incredible story that you feel like you've been reading it weeks by the time you're finished. - PetSounds

3 Watership Down - Richard Adams

A lot to think about. - spongebobgymnast2

4 A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens

I have this, but have only read through the first chapter. I have so many more books that I am currently reading right now, I just could not have time for it. Reading "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" by Stephen King, "American Brutus" which is a Lincoln assassination conspiracy novel, which is outstanding I must add, and "Nelson Mandela" also a fantastic biography. I guess that I will have to add this onto my list of books very soon. - Alpha101

I love how this story starts. Truly a masterpiece of a work. A good portrayal of French Revolution Period. - Kiteretsunu

5 Lord of the Flies - William Golding

This book will displace your faith in humanity. It's dark and creepy, but nonetheless a worthy read. - PetSounds

6 Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury

To me, this book is especially powerful today because of the fact that many school boards are still trhing to "burn" The Catcher in the Rye and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. - PetSounds

7 The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck

Excellent book, though halfway through, in my opinion, it began to grow a bit stale. I never finished it. Might have to borrow it again one day. - Alpha101
