Top 10 Best British Sitcoms (Britcoms)

The Top Ten
1 Only Fools and Horses

Boycie and Trigger are by far the funniest characters along with Del and Rodney.
Very well written, laughs every minute, but has some depth and strong storyline.

Amazing. Great acting, writing and just a great show.

2 Fawlty Towers Fawlty Towers is a British television sitcom broadcast on BBC2 in 1975 and 1979. Just two series of six episodes each were made.

This is a classic. John Cleese has never made anything quite the same since or before. This deserves to be number one because it didn't just have clever one-liners (like BlackAdder, though BlackAdder deserves second spot), humorous plots, and build up jokes, but it includes all of those themes. This is just fantastic.

This is a GENIUS show of all-time! It's up there with Keeping Up Appearances; if anything, these two should be tied as #1!

Who hates Fawlty Towers?!?! One of the most unique and hilarious comedies of its time; wish it was still going.

3 The Inbetweeners The Inbetweeners is a British coming-of-age sitcom that aired from 2008 to 2010. Created by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, the series follows four socially awkward teenagers navigating the challenges of adolescence. Known for its cringe comedy and realistic portrayal of teenage life, the show received... read more
4 Dads Army

This is truly hilarious, all I need to say is "Don't tell him pike", "You stupid Boy", "Don't panic!", "It's OK Taffy", and many more!

Performed brilliantly and some of the best comedic timing ever performed on British television.

6 Peep Show

To describe this show in one word, it would be: Brilliant!

Original and innovative, a modern classic.

7 Father Ted

The best.
Sadly only 25 episodes were made since the actor who played ted died

Down with this sort of ranking. Up vote now

8 One Foot In the Grave

This show is hillarious, I'm slightly dissappointed to see it so low on the list.
My list would go:
1) One foot in the Grave
2) Keeping up Appearances
3) Blackadder
4) Only Fools and Horses
5) Fawlty Towers
6) Father Ted
7) Little Britain
8) Black Books

"I don't believe it! Only #2! " And that was Britgirl's first comment.

9 Blackadder Blackadder is a series of four BBC1 pseudohistorical British sitcoms, plus several one-off instalments, which originally aired in the 1980s.

Fawlty Towers should be Number 1 with either Blackadder 2, 3 or 4 next.
Special mention for Mind Your Language.

10 Steptoe and Son

Just wonderful ,timeless comedy .

The Contenders
11 The Office

How is this #10? The Office is an absolutely amazing show and was groundbreaking for its time. Amazing characters and hilarious plot lines

12 Keeping Up Appearances
13 Red Dwarf Red Dwarf is a British science fiction comedy franchise which primarily consists of a television sitcom that aired on BBC Two between 1988 and 1999, and on Dave since 2009, gaining a cult following.

Red Dwarf is the only sci-fi in this list! It provides some of the most funny and ridiculous situations, and it's unique in so many aspects. The characters rock, and the series itself really develops into different styles as it moves on. My favourite series ever!

Red Dwarf is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. It's unique, hilarious and great to watch again and again. You never get bored. Best comedy in the world!

British comedy is always either Red Dwarf or inept by comparison. But Blackadder is funny.

14 The Vicar of Dibley
15 The IT Crowd
16 Blackadder Goes Forth
17 On the Buses
18 Mr. Bean The title character, played by Rowan Atkinson, is a childish buffoon who brings various unusual schemes and contrivances to everyday tasks. He lives alone at the address of Flat 2, 12 Arbour Road, Highbury, and is almost always seen in his trademark tweed jacket and a skinny red tie. He also usually... read more
19 Love Thy Neighbour
20 Spaced
21 Mrs. Brown's Boys
22 Outnumbered

Outnumbered is funny and entertaining, and it is entertaining to see from a different perspective, and see what a hassil it is for the parents.

Love it love it love it! Semi-improvised gives it realness and its completely hilarious!

Hugh Dennis all the way!

23 Fleabag
24 Yes Minister

Masterly. Brilliant writing and exceptional acting - comedic timing and nuance. Transformed the standard of sitcoms by refusing to go for cheap laughs, smut and low intelligence.

This is one of the best T.V. sitcoms. Intriquing storylines and wonderful insights on human nature at its best and worst in the midst of politics!
