Best Cartoons of 2017

With last year's Best Cartoons of 2016 list going over so well, I figured that I might as well make a list celebrating the best of television animation to start the new year. Rick and Morty is starting its third season this year, Adventure Time is still going strong after seven seasons, Bojack Horseman has become one of the best shows on television, Regular Show is coming to its conclusion, Star vs. The Forces of Evil is doing a great job at filling Gravity Falls' void on Disney XD, and plenty of newcomers such as Nick's surprise hit The Loud House are already leaving an impact. 2016 was a really good year for cartoons, so let's hope that that string of success not only carries over into 2017, but many years going forward.
The Top Ten
1 Star vs. the Forces of Evil "Star vs. the Forces of Evil" is an American animated television comedy produced by Disney Television Animation for Disney XD. It was created by Daron Nefcy and developed by Jordana Arkin and Dave Wasson. The series follows teenage magical princess from the dimension of Mewni Star Butterfly and her teenage human roommate and best friend from Earth Marco Diaz as they live their daily lives, go on adventures... read more

When Gravity Falls ended its fantastic run in 2016, many people worried about the future of Disney T.V. animation. Star stepped up to the plate and hit the ball outta the ballpark. Featuring a creative premise, lovable characters, cool villains, and a immensely creative art style, it's fair to say that Disney is in good hands with Star as its leading series for the future. A true passing of the torch from one great show to the next.

Daron and Adam have shaped me into the person I am today. I have most certainly found my playing field. I love how the cast and crew are so down to earth. Adam is DEFINITELY involved with ships and fan theories and even writes his own fan fiction for his OTP, starco. When Adam does these things it makes us, the fandom, feel like we are not alone, but are heard. We aren't just ranting our worries into an open field, but instead it's like we are writing a letter to someone. Adam (voice of Marco Diaz) takes his time to go through snaps, tweets, and posts he's tagged in.. now THAT is amazing. He has a great sense of humor and always knows how to get the starco fandom going with something like "Make starco canon" on Disney 's posts or his ongoing joke with Mosaic Monday on Disney 's Instagram with "Marco Diaz" and "It's always Marco Diaz." Maybe he's different off of social media, but through what I can see, he's an amazing role model, and hasn't let fame get the best of him. His page is clean and he is always replying nice things and has a beautiful wife who is also (from social media's eye view) a very kind person. Maybe it's just because I'm a fangirl, and I'm typing this on my computer with Star And Marco on my desktop while listening to Star Vs songs, but I seriously think that they are all awesome, and that all of the fandom loves them.

2 Steven Universe Steven Universe is an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. The show's based around a young boy by the name of Steven Universe, who is a hybrid of a gem and a human. He lives with his gem friends, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl.

I'm going to be completely honest here. I've never been able to get into this show. It always seemed a little bit too weird and pretentious for me, and this is coming from a huge Adventure Time fan. However, I'm not just a single-minded hater. I understand that this show has a huge following and fan base, so I'm gonna talk about its positives. The animation is truly beautiful, the voice acting is top notch, and I greatly appreciate it for tackling such heavy themes in a cartoon based primarily for younger audiences. This show just never appealed to me, however. I do really feel good for Rebecca Sugar, though. She's come a long way from being one of Adventure Time's head writers to being the first woman to create a cartoon for Cartoon Network, and I'm happy for every bit of success she gets.

From being a show about a kid figuring out who he is, Steven universe became such a great show for all ages. The cast characters, everything about the show is amazing. The songs are amazing and fun to sing along with. The first song I've heard in the show was peace and war, and then I fell in love with the show. When the first episode of the show came out, I thought it was going to be one of those shows like Clarence, or uncle grandpa, and those were shows that were obnoxious and annoying, but then I watched the first episode, and I didn't exactly like it. about a season later the episode "keeping it together" was on T.V., I watched it with my brothers and sisters, and learn a little about garnet. A few months passed, and I forgot about the whole show, but when a friend visit and asked me if I've ever seen Steven Universe, I told her yea but I didn't really watch it much then she put like five episodes of season 2 and I saw a completely different side of the show, new gems, new songs, ever since then Steven Universe has been one of my favorite show!

3 Rick and Morty Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim.

Rick and Morty is a flat out masterpiece of an animated series. It has the characters of Back to the Future, the alien environment of Men in Black, the humor and writing of Community, the creative animation of Adventure Time, the satire of The Simpsons and Futurama, and the raunchiness of South Park. All of these combine to form a hilarious, thought-provoking, melancholy sci-fi cartoon of which I have never seen before. If you haven't seen this show yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. There's only been two seasons and 20-ish episodes so far. Trust me. It's worth your time. Wubba lubba dub dub!

Honestly Rick and Morty, Star vs the forces of evil, Bojack Horseman, Loud House, Samurai Jack reboot, the DuckTales reboot, and maybe South Park are pretty much the only cartoons that I even are about that are still running.

I will say if you like the any other cartoons that are running still other than those that is fine it is all about opinion here but for me those 6 or 7 if we count South Park that I just said are the only 6 cartoons that are still running that I personally care about.

4 Adventure Time Adventure Time is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of a boy named Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada) and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio)—a dog with the magical power to change shape and size at will. Finn and Jake live in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Throughout the show, they... read more

Okay. I'm a little biased here. I understand that Adventure Time hit its peak popularity around 2012 or 2013, and it has slowly lost a lot of fans since. But this has been my favorite television series since I was 11 years old, and I still believe that it's still at the very top at its game. The show still manages to amaze me with over seven seasons under its belt. It's still funny, the characters are all awesome, and the show has begun to reveal several important answers to questions we've all pondered, specifically Finn's past and humanity as a whole. Adventure Time holds a spot deep within my heart and I'm looking forward to seeing the show all the way to its end in 2018.

Adventure Time is one of, if not the best, children's cartoon programme showing. I have watched Cartoon Network since I was about 6, and although Adventure Time never appealed to me, once I began watching it, I could never leave the screen. It has bits of comedy, fantasy, and a lot of weirdness, but should be highly regarded. Now, at 13, it is still my favourite cartoon, due to the fact that I can relate to it so easlily. Each episode has depth to it, that depth that I needed to find more about. This is the only show, along with Gravity Falls, that I would go out of my way to research, just so I knew as much about it as I could. This should definitely be #1.

5 The Loud House The Loud House is an American animated television series created by Chris Savino for Nickelodeon. The series revolves around the chaotic suburban everyday life of a boy named Lincoln Loud and his ten sisters, to which he survives as the middle child and only son in a large family of eleven children. Originally set to premier on January 2016, the series instead premiered on May 2, 2016, with the episodes... read more

It only took about two episodes to get me into it. I love the family theme, and it's really funny, plus each character has a different personality, which is definitely something interesting to see as they live under the same roof.

Overall, this is my new favorite cartoon. Of course, it can't be compared to cartoons of 2000s like Teen Titans and stuff, but it's one of the best cartoons right now.

I tried watching Star vs the Forces of Evil a while ago, but I couldn't say I enjoyed it. While it's fun and adventures, it's not the type of cartoon you'll really look back on.

The Loud House is just rocking, brah!

Hey, Nick. Yeah, YOU. Nickelodeon. Yeah, I'm talking' ta you. I saw your new show and let me just say...nice job! After years of getting nothing but crap from Nickelodeon (Harvey Beaks being an exception), it's surprising to see an actual GOOD cartoon from the network. The expectations going into The Loud House were pretty low considering all the cartoons that came before it, but the show managed to surprise everybody with its charm and likable group of characters. Keep up the good work, Nick. Please. For the love of everything, keep up the good work.

6 SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series created by marine biologist and animator the late Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. SpongeBob is currently the most popular show on Nickelodeon, as well as the longest running show, running for 23 years, and is beginning its 13th season. The show revolves around a sea sponge called SpongeBob SquarePants and his adventures under the... read more

Although The Loud House got off to a good start (I really liked the first half of Season 1), the second season just isn't that good (it honestly feels a little too much like a kids show at this point) and Nickelodeon's newest cartoons (Bunsen, Welcome to the Wayne, Mysticons) have not impressed me. And then there's SpongeBob. What I love about this show is that it doesn't try to be too serious (like most of the story driven cartoons, they're definitely well-written but it just isn't my cup of tea) or too stupid (looking at you, Teen Titans Go! ). And the new episodes don't try desperately to be exactly like the pre-movie episodes. It brings something new to the table. Take the kind of goofy slapstick you would see in Looney Tunes, some Ren & Stimpy-esque facial expressions, throw in some of the humor of the pre-movie episodes, add beautiful, fluid animation and you get Season 10. And Season 11 is looking even better! Maybe it's had some lackluster episodes (like Sportz? ) but if you asked me, I would tell you that not only is this the best cartoon of 2017, it's one of the best T.V. shows of 2017, period.

TL;DR: SpongeBob rules!

7 The Amazing World of Gumball The Amazing World of Gumball is a British-Australian-German-American-Irish children's animated television series created by Ben Bocquelet for Cartoon Network.

It amazes me how far Gumball has come since 2011. It started off as a fun little cartoon for kids into one of the funniest animated series of all time. Gumball as a show is very satirical and largely makes fun of the tropes of cartoons and the suburban world. Its sense of humor is very similar to South Park's only in a much more family-friendly way. I dare even call it the kids' cartoon equivalent to South Park. The impressive thing about Gumball is that it continues to improve with each coming season, and I'm looking forward to what it delivers next.

Teen titans go and all of the other CN shows follow the same path of animation and basic plot. Gumball freshes things up and has much different animation and the basic plot revolves around the extras in the show, and not just the main characters(aka;Gumball and Darwin).

Gumball: Best Actual Shownon Cartoon Network, Why? , Because it has one of the most clever scrpits and Wonderful Animation, not to mention the GREAT and GENIUS sense of humor It has, Sometimes even Nihilistic or Sarcastic.

8 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated children's television series based on the fourth incarnation of Hasbro's My Little Pony franchise. The show follows a studious unicorn (later an alicorn) pony named Twilight Sparkle (Tara Strong) and her friends Applejack (Ashleigh Ball), Rarity (Tabitha St. Germain), Fluttershy (Andrea Libman), Rainbow Dash (Ball), Pinkie Pie (Libman), and dragon... read more

I watched this show since 2011 (and G3 before that) and this show has built a part of me that I am today. Lauren Faust created not just ponies a world of magic and love. It's created such a warm hearted and kind community. If I wasn't watching it I don't know who I'd be

I also like this animation because it also has mythological creatures, life lessons, interesting characters, and story.

There is no surprise why this show has been a great inspiration for music

9 We Bare Bears An animated comedy show by Daniel Chong about three different species of bears - Grizzly, Panda and Ice bear (polar bear). Since they were little, they wanted to get adopted by owners separately. But then they missed each other too much, so they reunited again. Now as adults, they now live in a cave together in the forest, having heaps of great adventures.

This, in my opinion, is the best cartoon network show that I have ever watched. The good thing about it is that it hasn't ended after 1 or 2 seasons while at it's height and has not lost it's spark of creativity. It also doesn't drag on to more than 6 or 7 seasons and becomes boring like spongebob (there are 11 seasons of spongbob squarepants. 11! ). Overall this show should be much higher but not in the top 3...

Haven't really gotten into it but I like what I've seen of it so far. My reasons for liking this show are the same reasons I like Season 10 of SpongeBob: not too serious, not too stupid. The only thing that really bugs me is the art style (it kind of reminds me of Steven Universe, but not in a good way). If you haven't watched this show, you need to watch this show!

Really an amazing show! We Bare Bears is the type of show you would watch when you're bored, sitting on your couch on a lazy Saturday. You follow the adventures of these 3 bear brothers trying to fit in with normal Human Society.

10 Samurai Jack Samurai Jack is an American action-adventure chanbara animated series created by Genndy Tartakovsky for Cartoon Network. The series premiered on August 10, 2001, with a TV movie called The Premiere Movie, before ending in its fourth season on September 25, 2004, without concluding the story. A revival was produced twelve years later, giving the fifth and final season that concludes the series, which... read more

Richly dark & mature, but not to the extent that fans of the original can't enjoy it ( even though they are now much older themselves) this was long awaited, as the series really deserved proper conclusion, perhaps the ending was not to some people's tastes, but it showed what ever the outcome, aku was always going to have some consequences on jack's life.

Incredible show, visually breathtaking, and true to the original series. It is my favorite show of this year. This show is emotional, dark, funny and always action packed. It appeals to its original audience who have grown up over time. Highly recommend it!

I think its low on the list because it has been on hiatus for almost 13 years, no one thought it would ever come back, but now it is, for a fifth and finale season, and so far its been very good.

The Contenders
11 Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir Also called "Miraculous", "Miraculous Ladybug", "Miraculous Ladybug and Cat Noir", "Ladybug and Cat Noir" or simply "Ladybug" . It's a French show created by Thomas Astruc and Jeremy Zag, produced by Method Animation (by Zag) and SAMG Animation (in Korean version). The theme song singed by Cash Callaway and Wendy Child in English dub and Fiestar in Korean dub. Miraculous first time aired in South... read more

It should be voted #1 in my opinion. This show is absolutely fantastic! I was skeptical at first, but the more you watch the more you get attached to it. Ever heard of a love triangle? This show has a love square that brings all miraculers to tears. This show is truly a master peice guess you could call it "miraculous"!

This is really great I dun understand why it showed in Disney Junior as I'm not sure Igbo kids would really understand, plus there are more hidden Easter eggs kids wouldn't understand (like SVTFOE), it should be number 1 of this list or No.2 because SVTFOE is great too.

Well, we are one of the only shows in this list with a fandom. Don't forget theories and ships. It is the best show EVER and has got me hooked so bad it's my life now. It should be #1! Also marichat for life!

12 DuckTales (2017) DuckTales (2017) is an American animated television series that serves as a reboot of the original 1987 series. It features the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie as they seek treasures and fight villains. Have you guys seen all existing episodes? They ROCK. Also the triplets have different designs and personalities, and Webby and Mrs Beakley are badasses. The most exciting part, however, is that for the first time, they're going to explore more about the triplet's mum, DELLA DUCK! Whoever hasn't seen this show is missing out a lot.

One of the best cartoons, they made just as the original. Phenomenal animation, and great theme tune
When I say equal to the original it is saying a lot.
Why?
Because the original is the best cartoon ever made.
And this is tied with it.

It's not very often that a sequel/reboot is actually BETTER than the original series. The only other two examples I can think of are Sonic Boom (the T.V. cartoon, obviously) and Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated.

13 South Park South Park is an American adult animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network. The show is about four boys, who are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, and their adventures in South Park, Colorado.

Member South Park!

I member, and tons of people all across the globe can recollect the history of this legendary animated sitcom. Honestly, what can I, and 18 year old boy, say about South Park that hasn't been said millions of times before? The show is simply a comedy marvel. It takes many elements and current events occurring in our everyday world, and gets us to laugh at them with Trey Parker and Matt Stone's brilliant sense of humor. Season 20 received a mixed reception from both critics and audiences alike, but as far as I'm concerned, there will be no stopping South Park on its satirical take on modern society.

Best of 2017 no doubt. Family Guy should be second after this. It's always fresh because it's based off of what's currently happening. The Simpsons can't touch this.

Member South Park in the fall always!

14 Bunsen is a Beast Busen is a Beast is created by Fairly Odd Parents creator Butch Hartman. The show tells about a monster named Bunsen who goes to a human school and has many adventures.
15 Pokemon Pokémon, abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon: The Series, is a Japanese anime television series, which has been adapted for the international television markets. It was first broadcast in Japan on April 1, 1997, in the United States on September 8, 1998.

I like Pokemon a lot

Pokemon is best

16 Regular Show Regular Show is an American animated television series created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network that premiered on September 6, 2010. The series revolves around the lives of two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both employed as groundskeepers at a local park.

After seven years, Regular Show will be coming to an end in 2017. Regular Show has been one of my favorite television series for quite some time now, and along with Adventure Time, it started the cartoon renaissance that we are currently in today. While I haven't cared that much for the show's last two seasons, you better believe that I'm going to see this show off to its conclusion. I'll probably make a Regular Show tribute post in the future celebrating the utter greatness of this animated series. Top 5 Cartoon Network show of all time. Easily.

Dude, 2017 is the year when Regular show was ended, forced by Toddler Titans NO!

It was so sad to see my absolute favorite cartoon to come to an end.

17 The Simpsons The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening that originally started on April 19, 1987 as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. It got its own series on December 17, 1989 and is still running as of 2023, making it the longest running animated sitcom. It is about a man named Homer Simpson and his family (wife Marge and children Bart, Lisa and Maggie and pets, Snowball II and Santa's... read more

It's been going for 30 years and probably 30 more considering it's the grandfather of adult cartoons.

18 Bojack Horseman BoJack Horseman is an American adult animated sitcom created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg. The series stars Will Arnett as the title character, BoJack Horseman.

At a time when adult cartoons started getting stale and stupid (Mr. Pickles, Brickleberry, etc.), a little show named Bojack Horseman emerged to become one of the top shows not only on Netflix, but on T.V. as a whole. Bojack is a lot like Rick and Morty in the fact that it's funny and all, but there's a deep sense of melancholy that lies over the main character. The show is essentially about an actor's depression while his career and the people he love are slowly slipping away from him. This show has some real intelligence behind it, and truly provides a thought-provoking and invigorating experience in every episode.

A great show. It opens up about a lot of controversial subjects and manages to be real with its viewers about a lot of tough and depressing situations.

This show is just awesome my personal favourite cartoon out there

19 OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes is an American superhero comedy animated series created by Ian Jones-Quartey.

This show is super cute. It's made by Steven Universe's co-creator (who also voices Rad and who's brother S.U. is based off of). It's just great to see how positive K.O. is and how his spirit influences everyone. It also explores how no one on the show is one dimensional. While it is not super serious, I am loving the glimpses of Carol, Mr. Gar, and the allusions to K.O.'s dad's death back story.

One of my favorite shows on CN, OK K.O. is better than most of the other shows on Cartoon Network. It combines the silly nature of Cartoon Network shows with a cool and interesting plot.

The drawing style is pretty bad, and I've always found it pretty disappointing compared to masterpieces such as Star Vs The Forces Of Evil and Gravity Falls.

20 Star Wars Rebels Star Wars Rebels is an American 3D CGI animated television series produced by Lucasfilm Animation. Set fourteen years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and five years before Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Rebels takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy.

If you are a clone wars fan, you would enjoy this.

This is the best show ever for me it was amazing!

Literally one of the only average to good shows on disney with gravity falls of course

21 Legend Quest

This is definitely an underrated Netflix original series. Seriously though, this is in my top ten favourite cartoons of all time.

22 DC Super Hero Girls

I've seen the movie of this. Its good, and has nice animation, but it isn't as good as say Teen Titans or Young Justice

23 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an American 3D rendered computer animated television series based on the fictional superhero team. It aired on Nickelodeon in the United States from September 29, 2012 to November 12, 2017.

This is one of my favorite nickelodeon cartoons of all time. Its action packed, funny, deep, and the animation is good. They are constantly adding new problems to the turtles' life, an they are only slowly taking care of them. I can't wait until they beat shredder and april and donnie end up a couple.

24 Nella the Princess Knight
25 Pokemon: Sun & Moon

It is a new take on the anime having a more humorous side than any other season the only downside is that it can get REALLY overwhelming with the faces it makes me think "So this is Pokemon huh? " it makes me sad
to see my favorite cartoon go from a kind of serious and adventurous from XY to a season that based on overwhelming humor but I'm not quitting it. I'll still watch Pokemon even if it makes me feel uncomfortable seeing a weird and a tiny bit disgusting face every 5 seconds.

Ya I also amazing

Pokemon one to five season is best I die heart fan of pokemon I love team rocket
