Sid's actually not the villain we perceived him to be when you look at things from a certain perspective. You know he has an active and creative imagination and he doesn't seem to have any friends that we know of. Thanks to the scene when Buzz learns he is a toy we know that Sid's dad is likely a lazy slob and probably even a drunkard; he doesn't seem to have a positive relationship with his mother either as she allows him to blow things up in the back yard and he gets no discipline from it. While Sid is a brat, he is a misguided youth and product of his environment. He's actually a very sympathizable character.
