Best Childhood Movies for the 90s Kids

Childhood movies vary from generation to generation. So here's a list for all you pre-millenium babies born and bred in the nostalgic 90's.
The Top Ten
1 E.T.,The Extra-Terrestrial

My first recognisable drawing that I drew as small child wasn't of mum and dad or the family pet. It was of the lovably-creepy E.T. that left me both awestruck and terrified. I ranked this as my #1 not only because it's the first film that I remember, but it also spawned my deep-set love of sci-fi that lasts to this day.

I never watched it, the alien looked like a very large praying mantis that was dunked in chocolate.

2 The Little Mermaid

I almost wanted to blacklist Disney films from this list (because let's face it: most of this list would consist of animated Princess') but I decided to add it in for the sheer fact that they are undeniably the biggest cornerstone of our childhoods. Out of them all, I vividly remember singing "Under the Sea" at the top of my lungs and attempting to comb my hair out with a fork.

3 Jurassic Park

There are few 90's kids who don't love dinosaurs and I have to put it down to this beast of a film. I consider the T-Rex to be my spirit animal.

Besides the dinosaurs EATING people and the gore, it didn’t scar me as much as the Walking Dead did when I was younger. But I think that the whole Jurassic Park/ World series is amazing!

4 The Neverending Story

This movie almost seems to be forgotten by time, but whenever I mention it or see it floating around on the internet, all the 90's kids take on this pleasant look as they reminisce over the magic.

5 Anastasia

"Soon you'll be home with me, once upon a December."

6 Jumanji

One of the deepest children's films I've ever seen, and one that entrances people of every age. The special effects used were so advanced for it's time that at times you almost forgot that it was a film. And Robin Williams' performance here was so outstanding that no one can deny it's greatness.

I begged for the board game because of this movie

7 Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

This gem of a film tackled the issues that we all go through: as a younger child, as a teenager, even as an adult. But it does it in a hilarious way using futuristic and (thinking about it now) pretty ridiculous science and technology. It was so highly rated at the time that it spun-off into a T.V. series.

8 Sleepy Hollow

NOT A CHILDREN'S FILM. AT ALL. But what kind of kid didn't rebel and load up the VCR with one of their parents' movies? This gave me nightmares for days but I couldn't look away and resorted to watching it through my fingers. And once I got over the initial fear, I proudly introduced my younger brother and cousins to this, relishing in the terrified screams.

9 Spirited Away

I don't remember a time before anime. Before the golden age of Sailor Moon and Dragonball Z, I was watching Akira, Ushio and Tora and Fist of the North Star (thank you Daddy and your poor attempts to hide your videotapes! ) But Spirited Away was the first anime that I sought out all by myself and that magic has never faded. It's a film that I will watch several times a year without ever being bored.

Watched this and My Neighbor Totoro before I even know what an anime was!

This is a Disney movie. When I was little I thought that it was an anime.

10 Inuyasha: Castle Beyond the Looking Glass

This brings back so many memories. Running home from school with my little brother and waiting for the dial-up to connect, before opening up Limewire and trying to illegally download the torrent. I was 10 years old.

The film itself is pretty good, but the scenario as a whole is what makes me put this on my list.
