Top 10 Best Christmas Movies and Specials

The Top Ten
1 The Nightmare Before Christmas

Despite what most people might say, the Nightmare Before Christmas is more of a Christmas movie than it is a Halloween movie! I mean, it has Christmas right in the title. It takes place AFTER Halloween. The entire thing focuses on Jack celebrating Christmas. The only time when we actually see Halloween happening is at the very beginning. I don’t know why the director says it’s a Halloween movie. Regardless, it’s amazing. The songs are great, the animation is great, the characters are great, and the musical score is great. Pretty much everything about it is great. It’s amazing how beautiful the scenery looks. To this day, the stop motion animation is very impressive. Every single song is amazing. I can’t think of one that I didn’t like. Over the years, the movie has grown a huge following. It even has a ride at Disneyland. I love this movie so much. Whether you love to watch it on Halloween, Christmas, or both, it’s still an absolute masterpiece.

2 A Charlie Brown Christmas

Who doesn’t love this Charlie Brown special? This is not only one of the most memorable Christmas specials of all time, it’s one of the best. Lots of great laughs and lots of heart. The ending is easily the best part. When Charlie Brown gets a little Christmas tree and the others decorate it and they start caroling. I always love that ending. I also love when Linus explains what Christmas is all about. I watch this every year. It never gets old. I even bought an ornament this year based on this special. It’s really that good. An absolutely enjoyable special for the whole family.

3 How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Yeah. I’m talking about the original 1966 cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Not the live action Jim Carrey movie. This is the kind of Christmas special that is impossible to hate. It’s undeniable that it is a classic. It has a very great message and has a lot of heart to it. The Grinch hated Christmas at first and then had a change of heart when he realized that it wasn’t about materialistic things. It’s about spending time with others. The message is definitely what makes this so amazing. And of course there’s the memorable song that can get stuck in your head after listening to it. My family and I have a tradition in which every two years we go to see the Grinch musical in San Diego. I personally enjoy that more than I enjoy the cartoon to be honest. Still, the cartoon has a special place in my heart. And it should’ve never gotten a movie. Let’s just hope they won’t try to make another Grinch movie. (looks online) Oh. Illumination is making a Grinch movie. Well ...more

4 Christmas Who? - SpongeBob SquarePants

This right here is my childhood. This episode changed my life. Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s definitely a classic. One of the best SpongeBob episodes ever. Remember when the show actually had heart to it? This episode always reminds me of how much I used to love SpongeBob. I know all the words to the song heard in the episode. Whenever it comes on, I sing along. It also shows that Squidward actually cares about the feelings of others since he was willing to dress up like Santa and give them presents. Everything about this special is great. I even still have SpongeBob and Patrick Christmas ornaments that I hang up on the tree every year. I really like the stop motion episode as well. But this one had a bigger impact on me when I was a kid. And it is still to this day one of my favorites.

5 Die Hard

This is without a doubt one of the best Christmas movies ever! It’s also one of the best action movies ever. And yeah, I consider it a Christmas film. Even a screenwriter for the move says it is. The action in this film is great. There are some pretty memorable lines of dialogue as well. Bruce Willis gives his best performance here. The entire movie is very well written, very well acted, and has a lot of great action scenes. It is definitely a fun Christmas film for the family.

Nothings says Christmas like a bunch of terrorists hold people hostage.

6 The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

I find this movie to be a little bit underrated.

7 Elf

Elf is the kind of Christmas movie I love to watch whenever I want to have a good laugh. It is just constantly hilarious throughout. Will Ferrell dressed as an elf and running through Time Square is so fun to watch. His antics are even funnier. There are a lot of quotable lines in the movie. The jokes are very funny and memorable. This isn’t the kind of movie for everyone, but I have a lot of fun watching it every year. There are also quite a few heartwarming moments. Like at the end. The ending always gets me in such a good mood. Jon Favreau did a great job with this film. Too bad he’s gonna ruin the Lion King in a couple of years.

This one I watch every year it never gets old. It’s very hilarious and heartwarming at the same time

8 Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas

This is the Disney film that puts me in the holiday spirit. It perfectly captures the feeling of Christmas. Each segment is very charming and delivers a lot of laughs. Especially the Goofy segment when he’s trying to prove that Santa is real. That cracks me up every time. This is the perfect Christmas movie to watch with the family. It managed to get a sequel, but it wasn’t very good. This, however, is very touching. Something great to watch every year for the holidays.

This movie instantly puts me in the holiday spirit. When I think Christmas or Christmas movies this always comes to mind. The Donald and Goofy sections are pretty funny but the Mickey section ending hits me in the feels almost every time. It’s very heartwarming

9 The Muppet Christmas Carol

This is the best version of a Christmas Carol ever made. Why? Because it has the Muppets and Michael Caine. Two great things put into one movie. Despite it being a movie based on the Christmas Carol story, it still has the Muppets humor that we are all used to. It’s just really great seeing these characters that we love recreate such an iconic story. And in a very humorous way. Even though Michael Caine isn’t the best Scrooge, he still does a pretty excellent job. Overall, it’s a very great Muppets film and a very great Christmas film.

Two classic things combined. Overall very great movie

10 Home Alone

When you realise the picture of kevin screaming on the front cover is actually because he put on aftershave.

This movie is awesome.

The Contenders
11 11 Louds a Leapin' - The Loud House
12 The Santa Clause

Tim Allen has been in 7 Disney movies (8 in 2019). This was the first one. And what a classic this has become. Who doesn’t love a movie that involves a guy becoming the new Santa after causing the original one to die? This movie is very entertaining. The acting performances are outstanding. Tim Allen does a great job as usual. Even the kid who plays the son is surprisingly great. A lot of the jokes made me laugh. If you haven’t watched this movie yet, I highly recommend it. It’s a great movie to watch on Christmas. It’s too bad that it got such terrible sequels.

Very hilarious movie. I mean it’s about a guy who adjusts to becoming the new Santa what’s not to love? It even got a few sequels! *watches the sequels* man the sequels suck.

13 Arthur Christmas

I watched this movie for the very first time this year on Christmas Eve. It was better than I thought it would be. And considering that it was made by Sony Pictures Animation, I was surprised by how good it was. But to be fair, they had help with Aardman. The movie has a lot of clever ideas. The fact that there have been 20 different Santas, the giant sleigh thing in the sky that can camouflage, it really thinks of a lot of great ideas. It can also be pretty heartwarming at times. I ended up really caring about Arthur. His motivations are excellent. I also like his grandpa. He was definitely the funniest part of the movie. The only thing I didn’t like about the movie was the elves. They were very annoying and they were clearly a ripoff of the Prep and Landing elves. Arthur Christmas is a truly great movie. A must watch during the holiday season.

Way better than I thought. Very hilarious and underrated movie
