Top Ten Classic Rock Songs that Would Sound Good as a Metal Song

The Top Ten
1 Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones

This is the only song on the original remix I would agree with.
For this list we need songs with less Rock N Roll, blues and pop. And we need songs with more classical influences. I would try some songs by bands like Queen, Uriah Heep, Heart and Pink Floyd.

2 We Will Rock You - Queen
3 Barracuda - Heart

This song is almost metal and it will be easy to modify it a little bit.

It would sound terrific with deeper vocals.

4 Another Brick in the Wall - Pink Floyd
5 Easy Livin' - Uriah Heep
6 Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
7 Paint It Black - The Rolling Stones
8 Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
9 Johnny B Goode - Chuck Berry

This song could never ever become a metal song as there's too much RNR. It's a big mistake to think that you can take any song and by playing it faster and louder you get metal. Songs with too much blues (Led Zeppelin), pop (The Beatles), RNR (Chuck Berry) can't be turned into metal easy because you have to remove many things and add many other things. The result would be a completely different song so you may not recognise the original.

10 Revolution - The Beatles

Would be a great speed metal song

The Contenders
11 I Want It All - Queen
12 Strychnine - Sonics

Sounds good as a thrash metal song

13 Dazed and Confused - Led Zeppelin

A little bit heavier, and close enough to doom metal

14 Astronomy Domine - Pink Floyd
15 Surfin' Bird - The Trashmen

Changing a little bit with the lyrics and the vocals, and this would be a fine death metal song

Sodom released a cover of it.

16 Tales of Brave Ulysses - Cream

The lyrics and a speedy riff would easily change into a power metal song

17 Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Yes, there is a similar song (riffs) to this song. That has same picking/strumming style. But that song was played on low E. That was the benefit for it. It's "You've Got Another Thing Comin' " by Judas Priest.

18 Papa Oom Mow Mow - The Rivingtons
19 Baba O'Riley - The Who
20 Let It Be - The Beatles
21 (Don't Fear) the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
22 The Trial - Pink Floyd

I would easily imagine certain metal bands playing this song - versions with some more metal elements by bands like Avantasia, Savatage, Blind Guardian, Dream Theater.

23 Don't Stop Believin' - Journey

I don't really think that it could become a metal song. A really old pop song maybe but not a metal song.

24 Dance, Dance - Fall Out Boy
25 Space Oddity - David Bowie
