Heavy Metal started here with Black Sabbath. Escalated with the NWOBHM. The early Grindcore scene started here.
In Scandinavia, Norway brought us lots and lots of Black Metal, Sweden brought us lots of Death Metal and Melo-Death. Denmark brought us Mercyful Fate
Finland brought us lots of Symphonic/Folk Metal.
Germany brought us the best Power Metal, and some of the heaviest Thrash
Most countries have a few big names
I still think this should be #1. Yeah, US popularised and created many metal sub-genres. However, true metal was not only invented by European country, European currently per capita have more metal ( like Nordic countries and Germany), than US. Albeit UK also gave metal up.
America brought us Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Prog Metal, Metalcore, Groove Metal, and some of the best bands to those genres.
Canada brings us a lot of technical extreme metal
That's about all that matters
Some popular bands like X Japan, Crossfaith, and Babymetal came from here. But some great bands like Abominable Putridity, Boris, Mezarkabul, and Artcell.
