Beginning with the Holy Roman Empire (of German Nation), over the German Confederation to the Weimar Republic and Third Reich, the division into west and east and the reunion in '89... there are so many things Germany went through! World War 1 & 2 and the importance in Europe because of its central position come also to mind.

It has much interesting history that most people don't know about from the stone age to modern times. For example Sweden had colonies and an East indian company that combined with the Danish one traded more tea than the British.
