There is no denial, that Sweden and Finland have to be at the Top of this list. They've put out the greatest melodic death metal bands, while I think Swedens MDM bands are more essential. From Blackened MDM to Progressive MDM Sweden has everywhere one of the best MDM bands in my opinion.

For fans of more power metal influenced melodic death metal this might choice number 1. Also Doom influence is more present than in Sweden, I guess.

After Sweden and Finland its very difficult to pick a 3rd favorite.. but I decided to go with Japan. Rather little known, but the Melodic Death Metal scene isn't that small actually and it has some really great gems! There is a slightly different vibe to the sound than in european or american MDM, what I really appreciate.

Germany was formally united in 1871 under the initiative of Bismarck with King Wilhelm of Prussia as emperor.
