There are thousands of choices that Indian food stimulates each senses of our body and mind. If cooked the proper Indian way, it is healthy, nutritious and absolutely tasty. How many of us can quickly list more than 10 vegetarian recipes well I will stuck with salad, soup, grilled/sauteed or steamed vegetables - no wonder many of us feel vegetarian food is boring. There is endless vegetarian recipe and Indian food is a hidden treasure of tasty vegetarian food as well. India has half of the population who loves their fish and meat - we need 3 of our life times to fully taste all the varieties. I absolutely love Indian food, very well knowing what is available other than the standard restaurant menus. I would rate
Most underrated complex and exquisite cuisines I he world. People around the world are only exposed to fraction of the dishes. It has the most variable and variety of spices and herbs which means infinite number of combinations. Not only are there different regional styles but also different stile withing that region. Each is so different that some regions can't get use to food of other regions.
It is not the best cuisine for restaurant cooking but without a doubt the best home cooked cuisine in the world as it takes long to prepare from scratch.
India is number one half of the people that voted probably never tasted it 100s of dishes many variestes of foods tasty mouth watering spices expensive luxurious sauces and bread crafted with hours work.. Chinese is just vegetable and rice and chicken, Italy is too simple, Mexico has a wide variety but just perfected in meats and wrappings of chicken with spice..
India not only ranks in having the most varieties but I been to a five star restaurant and tasted both the mouthwatering come again taste of chicken grated spice and bread with ginger and spice was just #1 its truly better then soup and noodles or vegetable chicken rice.
Indian food is different from rest of the world not only in taste but also in cooking methods. It reflects a perfect blend of various cultures and ages. Just like Indian culture, food in India has also been influenced by various civilizations, which have contributed their share in its overall development and the present form.
Foods of India are better known for its spiciness. Throughout India, be it North India or South India, spices are used generously in food. But one must not forget that every single spice used in Indian dishes carries some or the other nutritional as well as medicinal properties
What makes the food best? Aroma and taste.
How you get these? By Herbs and spices.
India is the motherland of herbs and spices.
If you have any doubts, have a look on world history.
India is exporting them to world for thousand of years.
And when you consider large population, variety of religion, ethnicity and culture, you will be sure that no one can beat Indian cuisine be it in quality/variety.
If you haven't tried it, you don't even know what your missing out on!
Absolutely beautiful cuisine. I absolutely adore Indian food and culture. Nothing beats curry and naan, and they make the best ice cream in the world- kulfi. I'd love to go to India and experience some real, authentic Indian food (with caution, of course, as I don't want to get sick). It's hard to decide between Japanese, Indian, Thai and Italian as my favourite cuisine, but Indian comes out on top.
Indian food is Fabulous! The sad part is that people tend to think naan and butter chicken are Indian staples, when in reality its just 2 dishes out a whole bunch of equally great tasting food in 1 part of Indian cuisine - the Mughlai, which is predominantly North Indian. South Indian dishes, West Indian dishes and East Indian dishes are an entirely different ball game altogether. And there's this huge misconception of a 'Non-vegetarian North' V. 'Vegetarian South' which is again, quite wrong. There are very good non-veg dishes from South India that aren't as popular as Chicken Tikka. Indian food is a fusion of so many cultural nuances, it takes ages to figure it all out. So if you're up for a mouth-watering exploration of culture and cuisine, then you simply MUST vote for India!
The cuisine of India encompasses a variety of regional cuisines that are all made in the geographical territory of India. Given the range of diversity in soil type, climate and occupations, these cuisines are very different from each other and use spices, herbs, vegetables, and fruits that are locally available. Food in India is also heavily influenced by religious and cultural choices.
Its like a minefield. So many variety. I myself being an Indian have not tried more than 10% of our dishes. Diversity from north to south and east to west is huge. In terms of food India is a combination of 1000s of different culture. Every home has their own recipe and you can understand the difference. Finally a request for people who want to try Indian food, try it in India and not in some Indian restaurant abroad.
I have tried at least 10 restaurants for each cuisine (Indian, French, Italian, Mediterranean, French, Japanese etc in United States, Russia, France, India) till now in my life.. I never seen any other Cuisine which is as diverse as vast as tasty as Indian food.
The Indian food vegetarian or non vegetarian is very rich and tasty. you just can't beat it. :)
Give it a try and you will do a great favor to your tongue.
Peace and Love
This food is awesome. Best in class. Don't eat this food in hotels or something like that. I just went to India and asked someone about "Dhaba" and the food I ate there was just awesome! I really suggest you to have your food at Dhabas then you will get the best of Indian food. Sorry about my English.
India has 42 different Cuisines I have lived and worked in India for the last 12 years and I still haven't had everything that India offers from the milder gujrati cuisine to hot and fiery malvani cuisine, from the very pungent bengali curries to rich and creamier kashmiri cuisine.
Indian food is the best food... I love it... It has every thing spices, herbs, condiments, thin and thick, sour and sweet, appetizers, breads, veg and non veg etc... With lot of regions and specialties.
Indian food has so many varieties that we can eat 2 years without repeating the same dish. The dishes that are known outside India are nothing. There are thousand of dishes available in Indian that are unknown to outside world. Each state of India has its own unique dishes. Different variety of sweet dishes are also available in India. India not only have plenty of vegetarian dishes but also the non-vegetarian dishes. Just see in wikipedia to know a few variety of dishes.
Ultimate food from now and a billion years from today! I can't believe how amazing this food is! Especially the pani puris, paneer butter masala, chicken tikka masala and rusgulla! Such a refreshing taste! This should be ranked 1st in food. I wonder how United States got fourth place though. Italian is good but once you get into indian food, you'll think it's better. I've been to a Indian restaurant 70 times and more coming! I just hope you try it and rank it first on your favorites list! Mexican is on my list 7th place though! American is off 100. I would even go to India for their delicious food of a fortune!
The variety of food that this country has is mind blowing and after 5 years of eating different varieties of Indian food, I am thinking to settle in India just for food. I wonder why India is considered as a country as it is so huge that I ended up researching about this country 2 years back and is still continuing.
India undoubtedly has the best food in the whole world! The Indian cuisines vary from state to state and each Indian State's food's taste varies! From the north to the south of India and from east to the west, the flavours are of amazing varieties. The number of food items in India cannot be counted so easily! The Indian cuisines satisfy your taste buds! South Indian cuisines like 'Iddli with sambar', 'Dosa with coconut chutney', Kerala's traditional sadya are amazing! Make sure to taste the sweet items like Jilebis, laddoos, gulab jamun and the various kinds of rice and curries.. Samosas, golgappas! If I start naming the various food items, then I have to fill pages! Indian cuisine is the best in the whole world and it's an undeniable fact and it's one of the reasons for India being one of the world's most favourite tourist spots!
Wherever you may go you will not find the kind of uniqueness enjoyed by Indian food, which also makes it as much as delicious as much it is spicy...
Indian cuisine can vary significantly, with restaurant style using large amounts of ghee, with liberal amounts of butter and cream with home cooked concentrating on mainly upon preparations with whole wheat, rice and other ingredients flavored with masalas.
Honestly, I do love all food, but I love Indian. One thing special about Indian cuisine is the spiciness, something which you rarely find anywhere. You can literally INVENT food, all it needs is its Indian touch. Also it's proportionate. Italian has too much cheese, Mexican has too much bread, Chinese is slightly bland, the list goes on. India for the win!
India is not about the few specialties. It is the variety that makes it truly amazing. From the classic favorites to the traditional recipes the rest of the world has never heard about, everything has a very unique taste. I really feel that people should get over the concept of Indian food being all about Chicken Curry. There is so much more!
Best food in the world for all vegetarians and non vegetarians equally. From main course to desert, they just have the varieties that no one can match. Take any style of cooking and adding Indian ingredients and they become awesome. Try with pizzas, burgers, sandwiches or Mexican tacos.
All the tastes are included... Have herbs and spices which has lot of medicinal power... Excepts the sweets (high calorie Bombs) which introduced during the mugal period... I love all the food from Batura till Aviyal, idiyappam, idly, dosai... um...
Indian food encompasses a wide variety of regional cuisines native to India.Given the range of diversity in soil type, climate and occupations, these cuisines vary significantly from each other and use locally available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits.Indian food is also heavily influenced by religious and cultural choices and traditions.
The USA is only in the top ten because of high online population. Since moving to the US I have been astounded by the badness of some of the things people here deem delicious. Don't even get me started on "Philly cheesesteaks" - anything that involves cheese from a can as a critical ingredient is NOT "good food".
I believe Indian food is the most complicated to make, and was in fact the culinary root of most other cultures from China to Arabia to Southern Europe. One of the main reasons for Europe to invade India is for the spices used in their cooking. Food in India is a scientific endeavour and its art of which has been written for over five thousand years.
