Besides to the Arctic sea and northern Pacific, it does not have any significant border to any sea. Its Arctic and Pacific shoreline freezes over for many months too. Russia is situated so it has many choke points, where it has to rely on other countries for sea faring: In the Baltic sea it has to pass maritime zones of Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Poland, Germany, Denmark and finally Norway to get out in to a big ocean; In the Black Sea it has to pass the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, the Dardanelles and the Aegean sea to get out in to the Mediterranean unless you count its military seaport in Syria; From Vladivostok it has to pass through the Sea of Japan and/also the East China sea to get to the Pacific. To have any significant shoreline that gives Russia access to any ocean without passing through too many other major powers it would have to conquer Fenno-Scandia, the entirety of the European plain, Manchuria, Korea and possibly Japan. Prone to floods and cyclones, and given its tiny size these affect almost the entire country every time. With a population well over 100 million this is a very big challenge to the population and the infrastructure. Luckily though Bangladesh has very fertile soil and is therefore an agricultural gem, so there's that.

Lies on the European plain, awkwardly situated between two historical great powers, Germany and Russia, and this has lead to numerous invasion throughout history. Poland has been erased from the map numerous times. It also bore the blunt of the Mongol invasions of Europe too, given that it was the bottleneck in to Western Europe.

Stalin's policies intentionally made Moldova not have any coastline so now it's located awkwardly right on the plains and Ukraine is basically just teasing Moldova with the coastline being so close.

17 Central African Republic The Central African Republic is a landlocked country in Central Africa. Is a very big country right in the middle of Africa with no coast and a very low population density.

18 Niger Niger or the Niger, officially the Republic of the Niger, is a landlocked country in West Africa. Nearly all of the country is desert, with only a few small rivers that irrigate some of the land. Given this and its population projected to reach 100 million by mid century it's going to be an undertaking.

19 Brunei Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace, is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, the country is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. Brunei is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo; the remainder of the island's territory is divided between the nations of Malaysia and Indonesia. Brunei has terrible placement - shoved into Malaysia in north Borneo - facing upward towards China and Taiwan. Just generally terrible geographical positioning.

Lesotho is awfully placed. An enclave in South Africa, a relatively powerful country. It could be invaded at any time, and the people would have very few places to go. Lesotho, eSwatini (Swaziland), and San Marino are three of the world's worst placed countries.
