Top 10 Countries with the Worst Weather
Simply Google the annual number of sunlight hours in the UK compared to literally anywhere else in the world, and you will instantly understand why everybody is so depressed. I get less sunlight than Helsinki, the coldest capital. There are places in Scotland with the same annual sunlight hours as Lapland, a place where the sun doesn't even rise for half the year.
We spend so much time under clouds that the fact we're actually further north than you'd think barely even plays a role. Everybody here has seasonal depression for 10 months of the year.
It is super cold and cloudy most of the year in Russia. No wonder they drink so much, and depression is very high. The food is pretty nasty as well. They pickle everything because the climate is so bad.
The stereotype is that it's always cold in Russia. However, as a California resident who grew up by the Black Sea north coast in Krasnodar, I can confirm that summers in my hometown are warmer and nastier due to high humidity. It's basically like Florida but worse during the summer.
Russia's winter can kill anyone unless you wear tons of clothes. In the summer, it can also kill because it's too dry, given that most of Russia is a desert. More than half of the country is frozen all year long.
Guaranteed extremely cold weather that reaches -40 degrees Celsius every winter. Cold weather starts in early October and ends in mid-May.
Summers are unpredictable year after year. It's not uncommon to see cool, rainy days last for five days in a row. Heat waves occur once every summer and are so unbearably humid that you stay indoors with air conditioning. All in all, if it weren't for incentives like free healthcare and other social programs, no one would come to live here. It's not as amazing as it's advertised to be. Depression is at an all-time high due to the weather.
United States deserves to be first. I'm sorry, but nowhere else on Earth has 1,000 to 2,000 tornadoes yearly, multiple cat 4 and 5 hurricanes, blizzards, ice storms, earthquakes, fires, heatwaves, weather that can go down to -60°f and go as high as 120°f, and severe thunderstorms. If you live in the Midwest and South, you're mercy to the weather gods because that's where the tornadoes and severe weather hits hardest. I've lived in the UK for a bit and the United States most of my life and the UK doesn't remotely compare to what America has to go through.
The Philippines is super hot, humid, and full of floods. It's also pretty poor in a lot of parts, which is sad. No wonder many Filipinos leave the island.
Living here is brutal because of the weather. I take two showers a day due to the high humidity. Your skin will feel sticky and clammy. The Philippines has some of the highest electricity costs in Asia, so it's a luxury. Car shares don't want to run their air conditioning, and many businesses don't run air conditioning to save money. It's very hot in most homes since none of them have central air. It's not uncommon to go to a mall or movie theater with no air conditioning. Your skin will burn quickly without sunblock and an umbrella. By far, it's the worst place for weather and comfort. It should be number one.
If you're looking for cold summers, a combination of rain and wind that slaps your face in a way you've never experienced before, rendering umbrellas completely useless (seriously, most people don't even own one), dark winters, one of the richest vocabularies for snow and wind, and dry air, Iceland is the country for you. Not to mention the expensive gas, pricey beer, and overwhelmingly difficult grammar.
I don't understand why Iceland is not at the top of this list. Summer never comes and winter doesn't have any sun.
Temperatures can reach up to 40 degrees in the summer, and it's wet and dirty in the rains. Winter is not cold at all. It's cold in the morning and hot throughout the day.
Way too hot, a lot of storms, floods, way too many people. Overcrowded and smelly.
Super high depression rate and suicide because there is no sun in winter. Very sad, only 50,000 people (that's basically a town), and it's owned by Denmark.
Legend says that someday the temperature will rise above -273.15 degrees. I keep a bathing suit and sunscreen in my house just in case.
It borders Norway to the west and Finland to the east, and is connected to Denmark in the southwest by a bridge-tunnel across the Öresund. At 450,295 square kilometers (173,860 sq mi), Sweden is the third-largest... read more
Easily the worst Nordic country, it's completely absurd that Sweden is the most "famous" Nordic country. The other four Nordic countries are much better and safer than Sweden. Plus, the citizens of the other Nordic countries are much nicer and friendlier than the Swedes. Sweden is without a doubt the most boring and most depressing Nordic country. At least there are plenty of things to do in the other Nordic countries, unlike dull and unfriendly Sweden.
Sweden is easily one of the most unpleasant countries in the world. Many things in Sweden are unpleasant: the unfriendly, boring people. The cold, dull weather. The emptiness. Sweden is just a stale, old country that is only "famous" because it's overrated. There is nothing to do there, and the coldness just makes Sweden even more dull. Sweden is so ugly that it's much better to live in some African countries, such as Egypt or Morocco.
How is this not higher on the list? The weather here is terrible! It's totally dark in winter, with masses of snow from October to May. Then the rain sets in, and there's no real summer to speak of, with the additional torture of the midnight sun. It is currently June, and it has been snowing every day for the past four days. No respite is in sight, and temperatures are around the 5-degree mark. No, that's not a typo. It's close to freezing in June. I'm moving back to the UK where the weather is a treat compared to this.
Norway should be number one, but isn't, likely due to the low population. This is probably a result of the intensely bad climate. Additionally, most of the country is either mountainous, marshy, densely forested, or hilly, or a combination of all these biospheres. Expect disappointing summers and winters that make you wish you were born in the Central African Republic instead.
Where I come from, it can reach 30 degrees one day and drop to 13 degrees the next. In the summer, it gets extremely hot, reaching up to 40 degrees every year, with an average of around 30 degrees. Winter is worse. It always goes below zero, but it doesn't even snow! Later in the day, it can reach 26 degrees. Here's a hint: it's the place where "Four Seasons in One Day" was set.
It's not the hot weather, the cold, the wind, or the rain that's terrible. It's the fact that the weather changes are sometimes so extreme that they make you sick. If you want to live in Australia just for the weather, I suggest you move to Brisbane or some other subtropical/Mediterranean place. The northern parts get too hot in the early/late summer, and then winter, or should I say mid-summer, is a bit too hot for August. For example, Darwin, and the southern parts are much more temperate, like Melbourne. Brisbane, Adelaide, or Perth might be the only places in Australia with decent weather.
It rains almost every day. The heat will literally cook you alive.
Stormy severe weather and too much rainfall lead to flooding. Tornadoes can touch down, and cyclones are very stormy.
No foreigner has survived here more than two years. If you survive winter, then comes summer, which may be even harder to survive.
Ireland's year-round cold, rain, and darkness are well-known. What they don't tell you about is the near-constant wind. There's always a breeze or gust blowing, getting down your neck and up your cuffs. It keeps the chill against you day and night.
When I visited Ireland, it rained every day, and the locals said it had rained every day for a year.
Been all over the world and this is the worst I've ever seen. Rain, wind, and cold.
It is too hot and humid here. You would drench yourself in sweat if you dared to go out for just five minutes. This is exacerbated by the fact that it is an extremely built-up place that absorbs a ton of heat. Additionally, being a city-state means there is no escaping the hellish climate other than emigration.
Hot, humid hell. Do not go here unless you want to bask yourself in nasty sweat.
Do you like windy, rainy, autumn-type weather for about nine months a year? Do you enjoy a lot of wind almost every day? Cloudy, rainy days are something you love, right? Did I mention the wind already. Yes, it's always windy.
It's either the most predictable autumn-like weather for weeks or you have days where every weather type of all seasons combines during one day. It starts off hot and sunny in the morning, turns cold and rainy at noon, becomes snowy and windy in the evening, and might even include some thunder at night as a bonus.
Humidity is perennially over 70%, and average summer temperatures barely reach 25ºC. In the winter, it's freezing cold but it often doesn't snow. Welcome to the country with the most depressing weather in the world. Get ready for winds that will knock you over, rain that will have you soaking within 5 minutes of walking in the open, and the worst colds known to man. You will be spending at least €20 a month on tissues to blow your nose in any given month of the year.
To add to that, there is no way to predict the weather. By that, I mean the forecast can say 0% chance of rain with clear skies, and in the space of half an hour, the skies could be pretty much black, thundering, and pouring down with rain. We even get rain when it's sunny sometimes. Explain that. Do not come to this country if you are from a place with reasonable weather. You will be disappointed. Dutch weather will be worse than your expectations infallibly.
Everyone is complaining about the coldness, which is why Norway, the UK, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland are so high up on this list, but no one's complaining about the heat. Summers in Egypt are steaming hot! I don't know how anyone could survive them.
Highs of 45 degrees Celsius in summer make the heat unbearable and very humid. The air is dry, and the constant dust makes it even more difficult to breathe. Winters are cold at night, especially indoors, as buildings are poorly constructed with no insulation in the walls.
Cold and rainy summer, rainy autumn, warm and rainy winter, rainy spring. Yes, here it rains almost every day.
It's always strikingly burning and you might get sun-cooked. Did I mention that it's always dusty?
I am a Saudi, and the weather in my country is way too hot. You could burn.
It's too hot, it never rains, and there are too many sandstorms.
