Top 10 Cover Versions of Dio Songs

I mean the singer Ronnie James Dio and not his band Dio. So covers of songs he sang for different bands and side projects.
R.I.P. Dio.

The Top Ten

Don't Talk To Strangers - Blind Guardian

It's unreal how close to Dio Hansi sounds. Their voices are really very similar - very expressive high baritones with the same range.
I appreciate Hansi for not imitating Dio in Blind Guardian original songs because it's a big temptation when your voice naturally has qualities that are so close to Dio. Instead, Hansi developed his own singing style(s). - Metal_Treasure

Neon Knights - Anthrax

Anthrax would be an excellent Dio cover band and this song proves it - christangrant

Kill the King - Jorn Kill the King - Jorn Cover Art

Incredible vocals from Jorn Lande. I pay more attention to the vocal performances because judging by the other covers, bands have more difficulties with Dio vocals than with guitars or drums in his songs. - Metal_Treasure

Currently Kill the King has 10 covers on this list and counting - not bad for an old song from the 70s. Seems metal musicians like it a lot. - Metal_Treasure

Holy Diver - Killswitch Engage Holy Diver - Killswitch Engage Cover Art

A 100 times better than Bullet For My Valintine's cover of Crazy Train - christangrant

This is very good but I am not sure if growls were absolutely necessary here - I like growls but Dio wasn’t a growler and I don't know... Mixed impressions. - Metal_Treasure

We Rock - Metal Allegiance

Metal Allegiance is a supergroup with a debut album in 2015. We Rock line-up (also watch the video):

Lead & Rhythm Guitars: Alex Skolnick
Bass: David Ellefson

Additional Lead Guitar: Andreas Kisser, Phil Demmel & Gary Holt - Metal_Treasure

The Mob Rules - Adrenaline Mob

Vox: Russell Allen of Symphony X (he's a powerhouse) - Metal_Treasure

Don't Talk to Strangers - Jorn Don't Talk to Strangers - Jorn Cover Art

This version and Blind Guardian version are equally good and I hesitated a lot but eventually decided that Hansi vocal performance is closer to Dio idea. Hansi and Dio have a hint of vulnerability in their voices which moves a lot when they use it. Example: the way Hansi sings the line "Drive you insane', the beginning of the song and many times later.
This vulnerability isn't present very much in Jorn's voice. Jorn approach is more like full throttle all the way which isn't bad of course but after several rounds Hansi version sounds more interesting because he changes his intonation more. - Metal_Treasure

Rainbow In the Dark - Corey Taylor
Ronnie Rising Medley - Metallica
Stargazer - Mundanus Imperium

It's Jorn Lande again. - Metal_Treasure

The Contenders

The Temple of the King - Scorpions The Temple of the King - Scorpions Cover Art

Scorpions are never wrong - they have chosen to cover a ballad. Of course! And the voice of Klaus Meine still rocked in 2014. - Metal_Treasure

The Last in Line - Tenacious D The Last in Line - Tenacious D Cover Art

Jack Black and Dio are admittedly a pretty good mix. - truckturner

Jack's vocals are passionate and powerful.

Heaven and Hell - Manowar

Manowar may not be the greatest metal band but Eric Adams may be one of the greatest metal singers and he did a good job on this song. - Metal_Treasure
