"Random Access Memories" Album Review

Alpha101 I didn't expect this album to be so good! I just bought it because I've read some good things, but it surpassed my expectations!

"Give Life Back to Music" is a great opening track. The beat is catchy, the robotic voice is mesmerizing, and it instantly got me interested in the album.

"The Game of Love" is another very good track. The opening is soothing, the vocals were a nice fit to the song, which really surprised me.

"Giorgio by Moroder" is an average track. It was an interesting addition, but nothing more.

"Within" is the best song on the album, and also the best song by the group. It is also one of the best songs that I've ever heard! like I said, I was expecting this album to just have a lot of disco songs that I could bob my head to. This could not be farther from the truth. The chorus is enough to bring anyone to tears, the lyrics are wonderfully written, and the robotic voice really adds a sense of numbness to the track.

"Instant Crush" was another great track. The chorus is catchy, the lyrics are great, and it's one of my favorites.

"Lose Yourself To Dance" is one of the most outstanding songs on the record. The opening is catchy and automatically hooks you, and the chorus, while simple, is great. My only qualm with the song is that it is a little repetitive. I think that they should have either changed it up a little bit, or cut the song short. Either way, it's still a great song.

"Touch" is among my favorites as well. Like "Within," I was very surprised whenever I first heard it. The lyrics are elementary, but they still grab you.

"Get Lucky" is one of Daft Punk's best. It's catchy, the chorus is unforgettable, and it's simply a wonderful song!

"Beyond" has a stellar opening, but that's about it. The song isn't very impressive, but it's still a decent track.

"Motherboard" is decent, but like the song above, it isn't really worth talking about.

"Fragments of Time" stands out from the other tracks. It switches from it's usual robotic voice to a more human one, which makes this song unique. It's good, but not as great as expected.

"Doin' It Right" is really repetitive, but it still works. It's not comparable to any of the songs on the first half of the album, but it's still an enjoyable few minutes.

"Contact" did a hell of a job closing the album! It opens with dialogue from the Apollo 17 mission. It neatly wraps this whole album into a tight little bow, and left me wanting more.

I was not expecting this album to be as good as it was. I was stunned whenever I first heard it, and even as I go back to listen to it, I still have chills down my spine. My only grievance is that the first half of the album was spectacular, and the other half, except for the ending, was ho-hum. Even if you're not a fan of this type of music, still listen to the album anyway. You might be surprised like I was.

8.8/10 - Great Album
