Top Ten Songs with the Best David Gilmour Guitar Solos

The Top Ten

1 Comfortably Numb (The Wall)

Time is definitely 2, Comfortably Numb is the best guitar solo ever, and it always will be.

Greatest. - CedreticFomento

Listening to this solo for over 35 years... still can’t get over it

2 Time (The Dark Side of the Moon)

Finally... My vote made this jump to the 2nd spot from being the 3rd... Bravo! - Nirmal1991USA

Comfortably Numb is Best, but Time is the 2nd Best... - Nirmal1991USA

It is the first guitar solo that I learn. Simple, not fast, but full of emotion n power

3 Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Wish You Were Here)
4 Dogs (Animals)

Dogs! It's long and has time to build and its incredible. Apparently Roger accidentally deleted the recording with the best solo on it, so we aren't even listening to his best!

My favorite part is between the first and second verse. #1 in my book for David, and in my overall Top 10 of all time.

Crazy bends all the way!

5 Money (The Dark Side of the Moon)

Very underrated solo, it fits perfectly in with the jazzy tone of the song

6 Echoes (Meddle)

Especially in the Live at Pompeii version. - MaxPap

Best Floyd song... top 10 jam sessions of all time between minute 7-10... early Floyd beginning to venture into electrónica

7 Pigs (Three Different Ones) (Animals)

This should be 1

8 Young Lust (The Wall)
9 High Hopes (The Division Bell)

This is his best. Sorry comfortably numb fans.

My top 4 are Comfortably Numb, Time, Echoes, and High Hopes

Comfortably Numb is the best solo, but this follows in extremely close. I had to vote for this one though because it being at #12 is unacceptable. - wubbalubbadubdub

The outro is the best guitar solo in the history. 7th?! Are you kidding?

10 Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2 (The Wall)

The Newcomers

? Learning to Fly - Pink Floyd

The Contenders

11 Fat Old Sun (Atom Heart Mother)

Simply the best solo from the most soulful, emotional guitarist to ever walk this earth. This is an amazing piece of work that fills your heart and soul with joy. Such a shame that very few people, other than "true" Floyd fans, are even aware of this songs existence.

Live version of this song is unbelievable

12 Murder (About Face)
13 Hey You (The Wall)
14 The Thin Ice (The Wall)
15 Mother (The Wall)

The version on the album is good in and of itself. But they had to shorten it down to make room for more songs (they did that with a lot of songs on the album). If you look up the full version (Live 1980) on youtube you can see how brilliant the solo is

16 Have a Cigar (Wish You Were Here)

One of the best most soulful guitar solos

I'm shocked at how far down this is

17 Marooned (The Division Bell)

No words can describe this song honestly

18 On the Turning Away (A Momentary Lapse of Reason)

Yes very underrated solo - christangrant

19 Coming Back to Life (The Division Bell)
20 Raise My Rent (David Gilmour)
21 On an Island (On an Island)

When David Gilmour hits the first note of the final solo of the song, everything just seems to melt down along with it. It is so beautiful that every time I wanna spread my hands, close my eyes, raise my head and bathe in the music.

22 Louder Than Words (The Endless River)

This really is one of his best solos. its great way for the floyd to go out.
This needs to be in the top ten. (still not better than comfortably numb) - Messej

23 Poles Apart (The Division Bell)

Top 10!

How is this #24?

24 A Great Day for Freedom (Pulse)

Classic 2 solos don't forget that song on the division bell album and he plays it every where

25 The Fletcher Memorial Home (The Final Cut)
26 Not Now John (The Final Cut)
27 Pigs (Animals)
28 In Any Tongue (Rattle that Lock)

Perfection! A solo with a sound that just Gilmour can deliver!

29 The Blue (On an Island)

Men on the blue I never seen a guitar with each phase ending that way

30 Careful with that Axe, Eugene (Pink Floyd)

The heavy part...breathtaking.
