Top 10 Death Note Characters of Badassery

The top 10 death note characters according to their badassery... What badassery isn't a word !?!?!?! Of course it is look it up in the dictionary... They have mankini there I'm sure they will have badassery.
The Top Ten
1 L

L is arguably the smartest character in any media ever. At least when it comes to detective work. L is able to figure out how to catch a killer who leaves practically no evidence. When he confronts Light in person, he completely throws Light off his game, and continues to be a step ahead of him till his untimely death. I'm convinced that had L not began to care for Light, due to his severe loneliness, there's not a thing Light could have done to avoid being caught. There were actually several points in the anime where L had an opportunity to stop Lights madness, but he always seems hesitant. He enjoyed his games with Light (Light did as well) and made the further mistake of beginning to see him as a friend, making his death all the more ironic and heartbreaking. Combine his godlike deductive skills with his charm, and unique characteristics, and you have one of the greatest characters of all time.

2 Light Yagami Light Yagami is a fictional character and the protagonist of the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Light is a complete badass I love how he's so smart and deceptive is just blows my mind. Everyone loves L because he's cute and strange but I guess I'm just not into that because light is not afraid to wipe people out. He so badass and awesome and a little insane which just adds to the fact making him even more powerfully cool.

He could have had a bright future but being Kira cost him his life and sanity. It saddens me to think that his sense of justice was eventually his downfall, and the thing that let to his demise. It tore his family apart too. I may not support his views, but I still feel bad for him. He makes Death Note very interesting!

Now it came very close between Light and L, but L's winning, and Light is seriously badass when you think about it. I mean, he has an intense plan to 'purge the world of evil, ' and will stop at absolutely nothing to execute it. Plus he's the only villain I know who can do an evil laugh/smirk and not look like a total moron.

3 Mello Mihael Keehl, universally referred to by the mononym Mello, is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

I think Mello deserves to be second. I have liked him ever since he made his debut. Way to calm and mysterious characters start to get boring (Of course, L is an exception). He gave up his life to find the truth. And he FEELS! Unlike SOME characters in Death Note. Remember what he said after Matt's death? (Poor Matt T. T) Mello is totally awesome. Really, the creators of Death Note need to stop killing off all the good characters. :/

At first, I was pro-Light and supported him, but as soon as Mello arrived into that underground mafia lair, I immediately dropped any support for Light until Mello died. He's THAT freakin' awesome and I'd consider him the absolute best fictional character of all time!

Mello really should of beaten near it's a shame they killed him because he can feel proving he's a real person unlike some characters cough near cough we know of. Further more who doesn't like his fashion sense and when Matt dies he's is SORRY or when L dies he goes crazy. Where as near just calls L a loser because he didn't find Kira

4 Ryuk Ryuk is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Personally my favorite character. He does contribute to most of the humor in the show. I find him so funny to watch yet he still manages to be epic! He manages to make some serious things hilarious with just his voice, and he would probably be cool to hang out with. I have a lot of honey crisps, so eat em up, bud.

Ryuk provides much comic relief and yet is the most fundamental underlying basis to the entire story. It revolves around the shinigami world rotting and Ryuk deciding that it's time to explore and have fun in the human world. Never too partial and looked at everything with a removed humor and interest

Ryuk is hilarious, I love his personality. He played a big part in Death Note just by dropping it. Death Note would be nothing with out Ryuk

5 Matsuda

I feel like the characters in the anime really underappreciate him when he was actually one of the 7 to work to find Kira and stop him. I admired him for his personality to joke around when times grew dark, but of course he got scolded. :3 Poor Matsuda when he found out that Light's sister wasn't into him haha..
But one thing that struck me and made me almost cry was when he shot Light himself, he was trembling at the thought of him being Kira, and I felt horribly for him. He trusted Light, and then he found out that his own comrade was the victim of the case. I am proud of Matsuda and glad he lived.

Matsuda is my favourite member of the task force, because I love his sweet, childish personality. Sometimes I feel sorry for him, he wants to be taken seriously but all they did was shout at him and even L sometimes took advantage of him. But in the end he proves himself to be the best, he gave Light a good shooting and pretty much saved Near's life.

Apart from L, Matsuda and Mello, the other characters had really lame and boring personalities

6 Watari

Watari is badass! Who else can snipe from a helicopter?!

He discovered our beloved L, and was the closest thing L had to a family :') he gets my vote!

7 Soichiro

It's too bad he died... He really cared for his family and had a very strong sense of justice, which is what I like about him. Honestly though? I think he was rather under-appreciated.

Ran a bus into a station to stop the Kira Broadcast and then threatened the guy with a gun...

Sincere old school father but awesome in action sequences. Great dialogue timing as far as I have seen

8 Near Nate River, exclusively known by the mononym Near, is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Some people say Near was not as skilled as L but I think Near was more skilled in a few other important aspects. Near, just like L, was extremely analytical, creative, and composed. However, Near and L did have different types of creativity, even though they had a some-what similar method. L had an extremely superior creativity, while Near had a more flexible, abstract type of creativity. I don't know who was smarter between L and Near - but in my opinion Near had the specific skills more suitable to catch Kira. Also, I think that Mello was not as 'absolutely' important than the manga, anime, and fans made him out to be, he did help in catching Kira but I think there is a decent amount of people who could've done what he did.

To the person who called Near more skilled than L: Please stop. You are looking at Near in a completely irrational manner. Not that Near is a horrible person, don't get me wrong, but Near had an extreme advantage. Let's take it from the top, shall we? Let's start here: L started the investigation. He thought very far, and he started out like a babe lost in the woods. Near on the other hand, had many advantages, because he already new about the death note in the investigation, plus he had the NPA who already had a deal of information on Light and his death note. On the other hand, L had to start from the bottom.

9 Matt

Matt was my favorite. I loved him, and frankly I was really ticked that he died so soon in the anime. He had a way bigger role in the manga... Matt was awesome and had a lot of personality. Even though he only had five lines and two minutes of screen time. Those two minutes were epic. Not to mention he drove a really cool car.

Matt is my personal favorite in both the anime and the manga. He played a much bigger role in the manga and to be blunt I was mad, no furious, that he died so soon in the anime. But he was still my favorite. By far. True he only had five lines and two minutes of screen time, but those two minutes were epic.

He may have only had two minutes of solid screen time, but those moments were incredible. He's rowdy, charming, and confident. What more could anyone ask for? I wish he was focused on a tad more, because he could have had a much larger role in the overall show.

10 Rem Rem is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

REM was a sassy saint. Despite being a Shinigami she was just generally a good person, and I love how she stood up to Light but never went out of her way to ruin his plans.

She made me cry at all the right moments. Her story is so touching and she is such a docile and protective Death God to have watching over you.

Rem is LIKE misa's guardian angel who even sacrificed herself to save Misa. It's made me cry when she died. She's awesome.

The Contenders
11 Mikami

In the question of badassery Mikami takes L's Cake. I mean he was already a solid character but the first scene with him makes you go 'Oh crap'. That is what L did much later on in comparision to Mikami

I like Mikami more than some other characters in Death Note but I feel bad for him (Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takeda too) because of his loyalty to Light- and how his loyalty was used.

Poor Mikami!

I love Mikami! Mikami and I even have the same birthday!

12 Beyond Birthday

He is honestly the most interesting and intelligent character in the entire franchise, sure he didn't appear anywhere in the entire se series, but he has a novel, and that novel is my absolute favorite- read it close to ten times! It's a complete shame many people still have the urge to ask "whose BB? "
I'm quite happy he is on this list, he's my favorite character after also 4-5 years!
Clearly deserves to be on the top 5!

He should be no 3 or 4. I love him like hell! Even though he's never came in the anime, manga or movie, but I'm totally obsessed with his character in Death Note another Note novel!
And yes if you see the Second Death Note Relight L's successors he appears in Near's vision twice, at the start of the special.

I have no idea how he isn't on this list! I mean, come on people. He had the guts to try and beat L at his own game. He murdered three different people and gave me one heck of a headache trying to solve that mystery before Naomi Misora! Plus, who doesn't love this jam-obsessed serial killer?

13 Kiyomi Takada Kiyomi Takada is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.
14 Naomi Misora Naomi Misora is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Naomi Misora was very smart, the creator of the manga said it himself. She was too smart to live because at this point, she had figured out a lot of things about Kira without him even meeting L, she had to die unfortunatly.

Naomi was my favourite girl in the series, as she was smart, but not completely emotionless. It kind of upsets me because Light killed her fiancé, breaking her heart.

Naomi is awesome! And I think she was the smartest girl in the anime... But had to die

15 Shuichi Aizawa

I felt the need to mentioned the one (in the task force) that first started to see through light's manipulative charm. What he did was ehat a true detective would do, even if the truth of it meant the unthinkable. Besides his fro alone should land him on the list

Aizawa = most badass fro-bearing character ever.

16 Misa

Misa is a perfectly good, noble, humble, soft-hearted character. She's extremely kind, loyal, and super cute. As a male myself, I love her with all my heart, and I would die for her. Light Yagami had the most precious, most beautiful thing in the world, yet he just neglected her. If I were him, I would love and protect her unconditionally. I have never seen a woman unconditionally loyal and loving to a man except Misa. She's the best wife for any man. I could go on forever describing a countless number of good reasons as to why she's the best female character in all of fiction.

I know many people hate Misa for her so called 'stupidity'. She wasn't stupid. I always got the feeling she knew Light Yagami didn't care for her. Her love for him was so strong. I think that is such an honorable quality. She never stopped loving. She is an inspiration to me.

Just like Takeda and Mikami, Misa was used by Light, which makes me feel really bad for her. But as for people calling her stupid? She may be rather blindly loyal, but she definitely IS NOT stupid! I don't think she should be this low down on the list.

17 Sidoh

He's definitely the funniest Shinigami. "Give me back my notebook", "Chocolate is SO good", "He's human but he's... scary". Sidoh and Ryuk could have made for a great comic relief side story.

He's so cute when he follows rem saying "give me my notebook".

Give me back my notebook!

18 Reiji Namikawa

Good looking, completely expressionless, looks badass and for some reason, he caught my attention during the anime. Light is still my number one though.

19 Stephen Gevanni

One of the most badass characters. Deserved more screen time.

20 Raye Penber

I first character I ever cared about... I still hold an emotional connection to this character

I felt really bad for him and Naomi when Kira killed him.

21 Gelus

Gelus may not be badass, but he's the cutest Shinigami ever! That's got to count for something... right?

I really liked Gelus from what little we got to see of him before he died saving Misa (really wish we could have seen more of him...). He's so adorable.

It's too bad shinigami can't save humans without dying. I wish we got to see more of him.

22 Kanzo Mogi

He managed misa

23 Tenten Tenten is one of the main supporting characters in the Naruto anime/manga series and the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations anime/manga series.
24 Kyosuke Higuchi Kyosuke Higuchi is a fictional character in the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Best insane grin in the series.

25 Sayu Yagami

She could have lived a long life, but sadly her brother felt the need to kill her. Light's family had to go through hell, and Light's plan failed anyway. Sayu's mother lost all those she loved.
