Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte. Their first album, Morbid Visions presented a proto-black metal sound with Wagner Lamounier of Sarcófago. Sepultura's sound varies by the album, from thrash metal, groove metal, and even death metal.
Some of you might be thinking Sepultura shouldn't be on this list but I added them for these reasons
1. EM says they are DM
2. Old School Death Metal bands were based on Thrash Metal
3. They are a borderline band
so in my opinion they fit here, but anyway this band is awesome not too big on the stuff after Roots though since it does not have Max Cavalera but their first 6 studio albums are all awesome yes even Roots. - christangrant

4 Celtic Frost
Celtic Frost was a Swiss extreme metal band from Zürich. They are known for their strong influence on the development of extreme metal. Formed in 1981 as Hellhammer, the band became Celtic Frost in 1984 and was active until 1993.
Celtic Frost and many other bands that pioneered extreme metal in the early 80s (incl. Venom) contained elements that were later separated and formed features of different subgenres - DM, BM and thrash. For example, most of the songs by Celtic Frost have riffing with alternate picking, esp. tremolo picking, which later became typical in black metal. But drumming and vocals can sometimes be closer to either death metal or thrash metal. - Metal_Treasure
Same reason as Sepultura DM is one of the genres they are listed as on EM but they are also listed as Black and Thrash Metal
This band is a great band and were a very influential band on pretty much every Extreme Metal band. - christangrant
