After a year of continuous hype, at least the creature was better than the original Japanese guy in the baggy reptile suit. Everything else sucked mightily.
Over-acted, wildly stereotyped, a sad caricature.
The first one was a classic. The rest are cartoons. Same goes for Rambo after First Blood.

Seriously, II was a decent sequel. After that, it was all a bad joke. Scheider knew when to quit.
It sucks on so many levels and I don't care what it's "defenders" say about it. It needs to be destroyed, and long forgotten.
TLK's characters are so doggone cliche and the only reason their species were chosen was to fit into those dumb cliches for the sake of the story. They are too derivative of those from some Disney and non-Disney animated features made before TLK (or after TLK, if you count Balto which is mistaken as a TLK ripoff when it isn't), except that TLK just an African animal version. >_< Hyenas aren't comic relief henchmen, hyenas aren't evil, lions aren't always noble, meerkats don't sing, etc... Need to go on? I feel those roles don't fit the animals too well. If it was the "Hyena Queen" instead of the "Lion King", then everything will be less cliched and stereotypical.
