Top 10 Disney Cartoons Based on Disney Movies

I just got my wisdom teeth taken out. Now I’m gonna try to forget about the pain that my mouth is currently feeling by discussing some Disney cartoons that are based on movies. These are cartoons that I’m sure everyone can find enjoyment in.
The Top Ten
1 Tangled: The Series

Tangled the series is such an amazing show. The Before Ever After movie that started the series was kinda meh, so I’m glad that the show ended up being really great. When I was at the D23 Expo, I went to the Tangled the series panel. So I got to see Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Eden Espinosa, and Jeremy Jordan in person. Of course I was most excited to see Eden Espinosa. She is so hot and such an excellent singer. This is the kind of continuation the 2010 film needed. I love how much development each character gets. And I love how it introduces us to new characters. Cassandra is my favorite of the new characters. Varian is also really great. Some people may not like the fact that he became a villain, but it’s very understandable why he made that turn. I honestly don’t blame him. There are a lot of intense moments as well. The season one finale was very excellent. I can’t wait for season two.

Outstanding animation and songs, makes Tangled one of my favorite franchises of all time. This series is outstanding, right up there with Gravity Falls.

I cannot put into words how great this show truly is, and it's severely underrated.

I don't watch it that much, but it's a pretty awesome show.

2 TaleSpin TaleSpin is an American animated television series based in the fictional city of Cape Suzette, that first aired in 1990 as a preview on The Disney Channel and later that year as part of The Disney Afternoon, with characters adapted from Disney's 1967 animated feature The Jungle Book, which was theatrically rereleased in the summer before this show premiered in the fall.

Who doesn’t remember TaleSpin? It is such a classic show! Definitely one of Disney’s most memorable cartoons. This, DuckTales, and Darkwing Duck were pretty much the highlights of Disney Afternoon. One of the greatest things to come from the 90s. Seeing Baloo again after the Jungle Book is just so great. Even the other characters are very likeable. Jim Cummings is one of my favorite voice actors. So of course he does a great job in this. Tony Jay as Shere Khan is pure genius. He totally owns the role. This is a very smart cartoon that has a lot of charm to it and knows what it wants to be. I really wish Disney would reboot this series like they did for DuckTales. I really want to see it come back.

I really like TaleSpin

3 Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is an American animated science fiction/adventure/comedy series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation.

Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is a series based on the 2D animated Buzz Lightyear movie which is a spinoff of Toy Story. Buzz Lightyear is definitely the coolest character in Toy Story. And he’s definitely the most interesting one. So it makes sense that they would make a movie as well as an entire series about his life as a space ranger. I really enjoyed the movie. I remember watching it as a kid. I still happen to have it. The show is pretty much just as great as the movie. This honestly made me respect Buzz as a character even more. Each character is very memorable and each of them get their moment to shine. Tim Allen got replaced by Patrick Warburton for the series but I still think Patrick does a great job at voicing the character. He’s definitely a better Buzz in this than in that old Disneyland stage show that no one remembers. The writing is great, the animation is good, the action is spectacular, and the characters are excellent. What more can you ask for in a Buzz ...more

4 Lilo & Stitch: The Series Lilo & Stitch: The Series is an American animated television series produced by Walt Disney Television.

Lilo and Stitch has had 4 movies. The original, Stitch Has a Glitch, Leroy (Jenkins) and Stitch, and the movie that acted as the pilot to the series, Stitch: The Movie. I actually watched this series before watching that movie. Throughout the series, Lilo and Stitch have to capture all of the experiments that are loose on Earth. It’s kinda like Pokémon in a way. I’m still wondering why they haven’t made a Pokémon Go type game but with Lilo and Stitch aliens. They’re making one for Jurassic World so I don’t see why they can’t do one for this. I love how unique each of the experiments look. They each have different designs as well as different abilities. My favorite character would have to be Reuben. I don’t know what is about him but I just find him hilarious. And we both have a love for sandwiches. The original voice for Lilo returned for this series. I looked at a few recent pictures of her and she is hot now. I like when child stars grow up to be very hot. The ...more

5 Big Hero 6: The Series

This seems kind of unfair since only one episode has aired so far. Honestly, that first episode really sucked. Terrible animation, disappointing villain, and the characters are somewhat unlikeable. They also replaced some of the voice actors. I don’t know why they couldn’t get TJ Miller to reprise his role as Fred. I don’t know if it was because he was too busy with Deadpool 2 or the Emoji Movie or something but I really don’t like the new voice actor. As a fan of the movie, I found the pilot to be very underwhelming. But again, that was just the pilot. Hopefully the show gets better as it goes on. The animation is still terrible though.

6 Aladdin

The Aladdin T.V. series takes place in between Return of Jafar and King of Thieves. While nowhere near as good as the original movie, it’s still an enjoyable cartoon. There’s a lot great action and adventure as well as new villains. However, the villains can be pretty bland at times. The characters from the movie still act the same as they did in the movie. Aladdin and Jasmine have a really great relationship. Iago still acts like his cranky self. As for Genie, Dan Castellaneta is no Robin Williams, but I still find him to be a little funny times. Although, there are times when can get pretty obnoxious. I still prefer Robin Williams. There are some episodes that can be kinda slow and boring, but overall it’s pretty decent.

7 Timon and Pumbaa Timon and Pumbaa is an animated television series that first aired in 1995 as a spin-off from the Disney film "The Lion King." The series follows the comedic adventures of Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog, as they search for easy meals and hassle-free living. Incorporating elements of comedy and musical numbers, the show has been a hit with audiences of all ages. Timon and Pumbaa is often praised for its humor, catchy songs, and enduring characters.

Before there was Lion King 1 1/2, there was an animated series known as Timon and Pumbaa. Which stars the two comic relief characters from the Lion King. I was worried about this since they were giving comic relief characters their own show. Thus making them the main focus. But believe it or not, it turned out to be very funny. It’s not as good as the Lion King or the Lion King 1 1/2, but I still really liked it. I remember watching this all the time when I was a kid. I decided to recently watch some episodes again to see if it still holds up. And it still does. The show takes place after the events of the first film. Well actually I’m pretty sure it takes place after the beginning of the movie since 1 1/2 shows us that Timon and Pumbaa met before Simba was born and they didn’t meet Simba until a few years later. It’s a little confusing, but it makes sense. Because I loved the humor in 1 1/2, I really like the humor here since Timon and Pumbaa are funny characters. Definitely ...more

8 The Emperor’s New School

As you may know, I am a huge fan of the Emperor’s New Groove movie. So when I heard that it was getting a series, I was really excited. Although, I was kind of skeptical about the concept being about Kuzco going to school. But I gave it a watch and it turned out to be just as funny as the movie. The first couple of episodes alone had me laughing to tears. The show tends to rely on callbacks to the movie and for the most part it works. Like, there are moments when Yzma and Kronk go to their lair via theme park ride. It’s very hilarious each time. And yeah, Yzma and Kronk are still a great duo. There’s also a new character in the show named Malina. I though she was only gonna be included to be the bland love interest for Kuzco, but she actually has a great personality and contributes a lot. David Spade couldn’t reprise his role as Kuzco unfortunately, but the new voice actor really does a great job at impersonating him. I really miss this show. It was definitely a fun time.

9 The Little Mermaid
10 The Legend of Tarzan

The Legend of Tarzan! No no. I’m not talking about that terrible live action movie from 2016. I’m talking about the cartoon from 2001. I wouldn’t exactly say it’s great. It’s mainly just okay. I definitely prefer the movie but mostly because there were just a lot more memorable moments in the movie. This one can be pretty forgettable. I barely even remember it. But I do remember watching it and thinking it was okay. It apparently only lasted one season. There were also three unaired episodes that were used to make the Tarzan and Jane movie. Which I also thought was just okay. Overall, this isn’t a great series, but it has enjoyable moments. Definitely better than that terrible Netflix Tarzan cartoon.

The Contenders
11 The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is an American Saturday morning original animated television series produced by Walt Disney Television that ran from January 17, 1988 to October 26, 1991.

Technically counts, sort of, especially since the title bears (no pun intended) such a close resemblance to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

12 The Lion Guard The Lion Guard is an American animated television series developed by Ford Riley based on Disney's 1994 film "The Lion King". The series was first broadcast with a television movie titled "The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar" on Disney Channel on November 22, 2015 and began airing as a TV series on January ...read more.

Definitely more mature than a lot of the other shows and is one of the few shows on this list that actually has a plot. Definitely one of my favorites.

13 Ducktales DuckTales is an American animated television series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation. It premiered on September 18, 1987 and ended on November 28, 1990 with a total of four seasons and 100 episodes.

Not based on a movie. Unless you count the old Mickey Mouse cartoons

Am I missing something? What movie is DuckTales based on?

It's a good cartoon but not based on a movie I think.

14 Hercules: The Animated Series

I loved this series! They should bring it back on the air!

15 101 Dalmatians: The Series
