Top 10 Worst Disney Animated Sequels

Disney has had a bad reputation with sequels. So let's talk about the worst Disney animated sequels!
The Top Ten
1 The Hunchback of Notre Dame II

Hunchback of Notre Dame 2! A sequel that should have never happened! Why did Disney have to go and ruin such an awesome classic? In this movie, Quasimodo gets a girlfriend. But unfortunately, his girlfriend works for the villain! Kind of reminds me of another terrible Disney film! Also, the villain in this film is very uninteresting! All he wants to do is steal a bell! He is definitely not a good replacement for Frollo! Also, Esmeralda and Phoebus have a son now and he doesn't really add much to the film! And of course because of this movie's low budget, the animation is awful! I love Hunchback of Notre Dame but the sequel is terrible!

I know that a lot of little kids probably felt really sad that Quasimodo didn't win over Esmeralda in the original. But that's not an excuse to ruin one of the most adult-like, realistic conclusions to any Disney movie ever! This is a side note, but it's kind of hard not to notice the animation differences between the two movies. The original is a gothic animated spectacle. The sequel looks like it belongs on a crappy Saturday morning cartoon.

This sequel makes me so mad! This movie is so good. But of course, Disney had to make a crappy sequel that had horrible animation, a bland villain, and a super boring plot line. I mean Madeleine has to be the worst, not to mention cheesiest, Disney villain ever.

Don't really like the idea of Quasimodo having a girlfriend because I thought Quasimodo accepted that Esmeralda and Phoebus was a couple.

2 Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World

That scene with Belle and her derp eyes really scares me! I would talk about the plot, but this movie barely has a plot! Just like Cinderella 2, the movie is made up of different segments! They are all terrible! The animation is the worst I've seen in a Disney film! I watched this movie expecting it to be so bad it's good! But it's not! It's just bad! I hope the Beauty and the Beast remake will be good!

I've never heard of this

3 Cars 2

I find it VERY hard to believe that people actually like this movie! Why would ANYONE think it's a good idea to make Mater the main character? Sure he was kind of funny in the first movie, but no one wanted him to get his own movie! Mater is the Jar Jar Binks of this movie and John Lasseter is the George Lucas of Pixar! This seems more like fan fiction than a movie! A movie about cars who are spies? Seriously? I can't believe one of the best animation studios made something so unwatchably terrible! This movie straight up sucks! Cars 2 is definitely Pixar's worst movie! And they're making another sequel for some reason! Well at least it's taking more of a dark turn and it will be about Lightning McQueen. So hopefully it's better.

I liked the first one a lot, and was so happy to see there was going to be a cars 2, I was not happy with it, I will tell you that, I give cars 10/10 I give cars 2 0/10 so bad.

I don't hate this movie, but I definitely don't like it. This is definitely the lowest point in Pixar's animated films. By the way, did you see the teaser trailer for Cars 3? It's actually pretty intense. There might be some hope for Cars 3 after all.

Cars one was an amazing movie with a wonderful soundtrack, cars two was a joke of a movie with a mess of a plot and a boring theme. I saw a teaser for cars 3 and I have to say I am impressed it looks like it will be a good movie.

4 Mulan II

I watched both Mulan 1 and 2. I actually liked both movies equally. The only problem I had with Mulan 2 was when Mushu tried to break-up Mulan and Shang just so he could keep his job as royal guardian. That's a bad excuse! Mulan and Shang are a great couple. So, it bothered me when Mushu did that (he did succeed, but finally admitted this to Mulan later on in this film). There are also these 3 princesses who are supposed to have an arranged marriage. However, they ended up falling in love with Ling, Yao, and Chien-Po instead. If they did not have the arranged marriage, China is doomed.
It did not happen! So, China would have gotten destroyed because of that.

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen! No exaggeration! This movie is absolutely terrible! Mulan was such a great movie! So it really bothers me that the sequel is this bad! Every character in this movie is unlikeable! Especially Mushu! He loses his job as royal guardian because Mulan and Shang get engaged! So in order to keep his job, he tries to break them up! And to think I hated Ariel for being selfish! Also, Mulan is completely out of character in this movie! There are three princesses who are forced to get married but they fall in love with Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po! And Mulan is happy about this even though if the princesses don't go through with the arranged marriaged, China is doomed! Mulan did not care about love in the first movie! She cared mostly about family and honor! The arranged marriage never happened so we can all assume that China got destroyed! I hate this movie so much! There isn't a single redeeming thing about it! It is awful! It is terrible! I've only ...more

Mulan was an overall great movie that showed people, especially young girls, to follow their ambitions and to not care about the negative things and stereotypes people say about you. This...this is garbage. Ya done messed up, Disney. Ya done messed up.

This sequel isn't that good. Mulan 1 is definitely better than this.

5 Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World

I remember watching this one time. It was very bad! The first movie was better than this! Apparently, Pocahontas travels all the way to England after hearing about John Smith's "death." Later on, we find out he's NOT DEAD AT ALL! She also met John Rolfe! They were kissing at the end, so I could assume they got married or something. I would have preferred John Smith instead, since she did admit she loved him in the first film! Governor Radcliffe also returns and his design is god awful! This movie has a lot of issues!

As much sad I hated the first Pocahontas movie, it had a pretty good ending. So they should've just left it alone. But they decided to make Journey to a New World! Pocahontas goes to England after hearing about John Smith's supposed death. We later find out he isn't dead! So predictable! She also meets John Rolfe! I know they actually did hook up in reality but I still don't really like them as a couple! There are songs in this movie but I don't remember any of them! Radcliffe also returns and his design is just awful! What's up with his mouth? This movie is worse than the original! And that's saying something since in the first movie, they had Pocahontas learn English from THE WIND!

Pocahontas has always been a boring movie to me ever since I was a child the first and the second movie suck equally.

This is a movie Disney probably wouldn't remake, I mean, Pocahontas died IRL when the movie took place.

6 Cinderella II: Dreams Come True

I remember watching this. It's about Cinderella planning an event in all three. One of them involved Anastasia (her stepsister) falling in-love with a baker. Unfortunately, her mother does not approve, due to his social status. NO FAIR! It's actually a good thing that Cinderella stepped-in and helped her.

This sequel was VERY unnecessary! The first movie was good but did people really want a sequel? They should call this movie Dreams DON'T Come True! This movie involves three stories and each one of them involve Cinderella planning an event. I didn't like any of them! The animation isn't that great, the stories are badly written, and it's a huge step backward from the original movie! At least the third one was better than this!

7 Ralph Breaks the Internet

As a sequel to one of the greatest animated films of all time, this movie is very disappointing. As a movie on its own, it's just really unimpressive. Even when not comparing to the first movie, the idea of taking care of an arcade game is underwhelming, and that doesn't even come until halfway through the movie. The main characters sound very disinterested even by kid standards, the villains feel like a heavily watered down version of the first movie, the story and description sometimes mismatch with what's going on screen, and the songs range from passable to terrible. There are traces of what made the original movie so fantastic, but they are very few and very far between.

Guys, stop. This movie was really good because they did product placement, but not useless like "The Emoji Movie" where they just placed it for no reason. In this movie, they visited places that were actual websites, but it was actually useful for the plot, like going to "EBay" to buy a steering wheel for Sugar Rush, and that's about it. Also, the plot was good, the characters are good, it was a really good, quality movie. The only problem was that Ralph was a bit more of a buffoon, and that Felix hardly appeared, but the parts that he appeared in were golden. Overall, great movie, though not as good as the original.

Hate the Disney Princesses as American Apparel models. Hate that game that's all edge and no substance with an uninspired name that's somehow a child's dream. Hate the the whole Ralph becomes a meme literally overnight thing. Hate Vanellope's new selfish, btchy attitude.

More like, Disney breaks characters from a wonderful recent film of theirs and several classic characters of theirs just to how scream "woke" and "progressive" they supposedly are.

8 Atlantis: Milo's Return

Ugh this is just terrible. The original is so much better. Like if people knew more about this it would be in the top 10.

Ugh, thanks to whoever put this movie in. Did not do the original film justice in any way.

9 The Fox and the Hound 2

This annoying tigger movie needs to be pushed up to the top ten!

I predict that Schaffrillas will give this movie a 3/10 on Letterboxd.

10 The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea

There was this one scene where Morgana (Ursula's sister) threatened to kill Melody. So, Ariel and Eric had no choice, but to keep Melody away from the ocean. So, what do they do? Well, there was this other scene where they take Donald Trump's advice and build a big wall around the castle to separate it from the sea! Does that sound familiar? And how did Melody get to the ocean when the wall is around the castle?! I did not see any holes or doorways! She's 10 years old and she's a human! Humans cannot really fly or jump very high, you know.

Speaking of Morgana, she was never brought up in the first film, which is stupid! Morgana is way too similar to Ursula! She even has the same voice actor who played as Ursula in the first movie!

In the Little Mermaid 2, Ariel and Eric have a kid named Melody. I hate her! But she's still more tolerable than Ariel! Also, Ursula has a sister named Morgana who was never brought up in the first movie and threatens to kill Melody. In order to protect Melody from Morgana, they decide to take Donald Trump's advice and build a wall to separate the castle from the sea. Sound familiar? In the original, Ariel's father forbids her from going to the surface. In this movie, Ariel forbids Melody from going to the ocean! So it's basically the same premise! Also, Ariel is STILL horribly unlikeable! Why couldn't she just tell her daughter why she couldn't go into the sea!? Also, she doesn't understand the problems of Melody even though she herself had the same problems in the first movie! What a hypocrite! Morgana is WAY too similar to Ursula! She even has the same voice as her! This movie has a lot of problems!

Have you read The Little Mermaid book? Its very different to the Disney film and wouldn't have a sequel ever.

This is pretty much the same thing as "The Little Mermaid", just in different ways.

The Contenders
11 Kronk's New Groove
12 Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas

I watched this back in Christmas Eve 2019. I hated it! Belle wants to bring Christmas spirit into the castle, but unfortunately, The Beast does NOT allow that to happen. It turns out Christmas was the day he got cursed. Okay, he was mean in the original, but he is 10x worst in this movie. He was a huge jerk as a human. No wonder he got cursed.

He locked-up Belle, just because she was trying to do something nice for him! How mean! Also, the villain is Forte, who is a pipe-organ. He is very dull in this movie! No joke! I'm never watching this again. Ever!

A Beauty and the Beast Christmas movie sounds like it would be a great idea! But what we got was an absolute failure! This movie is absolutely horrendous! The plot is that Belle wants to bring Christmas to the castle but Beast forbids it. The reason why he forbids it is because Christmas was the day he was cursed. And in that flashback they showed us, he was an absolute jerk as a human! No wonder he was cursed! He basically has NO reason to hate Christmas! Beast is absolutely unlikeable in this film! I know he was mean in the original, but here he is just cruel! He locked up Belle even though she was doing something nice for him! We are also introduced to a pipe organ named Forte. He is the villain of the film and he is very dull! In fact, most of the characters in this film are dull! I'm also not a fan of the songs! There is a lot of wasted potential in this movie!

Beauty and the Beast was an oscar-deserving masterpiece and by far the best Disney movie I have ever seen, this one feels like the animated version of Twilight!

The beast hates Christmas because it was the day he was cursed. Wow. Ebeneezer Scrooge and The Grinch had better reasons to hate Christmas than the beast.

13 The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride

I liked this. Loads of the sequels on here I've never even heard of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mulan had sequels? Never heard of Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Magical World, Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea - with the first why didn't they just stick to the book, Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure, The Fox and the Hound 2, Atlantis: Milo's Return, The Lion King 1½, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, The Jungle Book 2, The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

I actually liked this movie to be honest. A lot better than The Lion Guard

Guilty pleasure. I liked this movie

14 Finding Dory

I hated finding nemo is was a very boring and basic movie, the lack of coloring was underwhelming as well. Finding Dory was a redeeming movie.

Not the worst but not as good as I expected it to be. To hell with this movie anyways. Incredibles 2 is where it's at now biatch

This really sucked, who would want a rehash of the original?

This movie is awesome and you know it!

15 Planes: Fire & Rescue

The fact that they even made a sequel to the first Planes movie is really surprising! But the fact that they released it less than a year after the first one is even more surprising! But to be honest, the sequel is actually not as bad as the original! It's still pretty bad though! Dusty gets his engine damaged and the parts can't be replaced. Then he joins a fire and rescue team. The storyline is uninteresting, the characters are forgettable, but it's still an improvement over the first one. I think they're original plan was to make Planes a trilogy but I'm pretty sure they're not making a third one.

16 Return to Neverland

The movie is kinda well hard to explain.
But the Hook one (when he got defeated but the crocodile part is better) in the battle scene is very hilarious.
It's my first Peter Pan film before the second was the first original.

17 Cinderella III: A Twist in Time

Whoever put this comment below must be on drugs. Instead of exploring what's next after "happily ever after," it explores what would've happen under different circumstances. At least we know what would happen if someone else fits the slipper and it's original.

Saying this was better than "Cinderella II" isn't really saying much at all. Nor is saying it's "one of the better direct to video" sequels.

I don't like this movie because the stepmother rewinded time and at the end the prince and Cinderella are in love again and the fairy godmother never changes it back...But the prince never remembers danceing with cinderella

18 Tarzan & Jane

Schaffrillas will give this movie either a 2/10 or a 3/10 once he reviews this movie on Letterboxd.

19 Frozen 2

Blatantly rips off both "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Fifth Element". Also, Anna has zero business becoming queen.

I'm not a hater of "Frozen" in general, but this movie was bad and unnecessary.

I hated the first one; this one is even worse.

And I thought the first movie was bad.

20 The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Beginning

I have never heard of it but Ariel's Beginning? Is it more of a prequel?

21 Tarzan II

I didn't even like the first one, I don't know why disney made a tarzan 2 in the first place

22 Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure

Lady and the Tramp was such a cute movie about two dogs falling in love! It was very popular so it made sense that they wanted to make a sequel! But by making a sequel, they decided to completely rehash the first movie! Yeah, this is basically the first Lady and the Tramp movie, but instead it's about their son named Scamp. Whom I hate! Honestly, they could've chosen ANY of their other kids but they went with Scamp! I don't even know why they even decided to still call it Lady and the Tramp! They're both hardly in it! I would personally stick with the original.

Here are my issues with this sequel: the story's not entertaining, the characters are uninteresting, the comedy's not very funny and even the songs are ridiculously forgettable. Why did they have to make Scamp sound like a little girl? Speaking of which, this should have been about his sisters. In fact, it is never mentioned what their names are. But is there something good about it? Well Scamp's relationship with Angel is beautiful but the rest of this is bad. Not the worst, not awful, just badly bored me to death.

I cringed so hard that my face broke! Someone break this movie!

It's okay but the first one's better.

23 Toy Story 4

"What should we do for another Toy Story Sequel?"

"I know, let's completely change Bo Peep's personality because we're woke now, and ruin the beautiful ending of the previous film because we've suddenly become obsessed with making sequels just to separate our favourite characters and ruin their dynamics!" (See Wreck it Ralph 2, Frozen 2, etc.)

We just want our favourite characters to stay together, why is that too much to ask?

24 Return of Jafar

I don't have one good thing to say about this movie, it was so bad. I am a big fan of the first movie but not this one.

If it weren't for this one, none of the other sequels on this list would have ever existed.

25 The Jungle Book 2

Watched this once. First off, it's great that the people in The Man Village let Mowgli in, I mean, he is mostly human anyway. However, Baloo wants to take him back into the jungle. Bagheera was smart enough not to let it happen. But, Baloo did not listen at all and does anything he can to take Mowgli away from the village. He sneaks into the village at night and actually succeeds! Dragging Mowgli into the jungle with him, Shanti decides to go after him.

Turns out that Shere Khan has returned (Who is now voiced by Tony Jay). Kaa did appear for a brief period of time, but that was it. I can understand that Baloo misses Mowgli, but he should at least take a hint that the Man Village is Mowgli's real home now and that the jungle is too dangerous, especially with Shere Khan still out there searching for him.
