Most Divisive Video Games Of All TimeSometimes there are video games that are quite loved on one side, and hated on the other side. These are the most Divisive video games of all time. Note: This List was inspired by the divisive movies lists popping up here recently. So I decided to do one on video games.
The Top Ten
This probably has to be the most divisive video game ever made. Critics gave GTA4 critical acclaim, and praised it for it’s open world, characters, and it’s narrative. However, some people criticize GTA4 for it’s repetitive combat, realistic driving controls, some character relations being forced, and the most gloomy entry in the series. - RadioHead03
Sonic Unleashed is most definitely one of the most divisive video games. Critics, and some people criticized Sonic Unleashed for the Wearhog sections in the game for being too slow, and criticized the story for being a Saturday morning cartoon. Other people however praise Sonic Unleashed for it’s day time sections, boost gameplay, and it’s story. - RadioHead03
Deadly Premonition was slammed by critics when it first released. Critics slammed it for it’s awful graphics, terrible plot, awful controls, and bland characters. But ever since it’s release, Deadly Premonition received a cult following. With some people praising it’s ambitious open world design, humorous charm, and it’s twin peeks style. This lead to a sequel releasing in 2020. - RadioHead03
Resident Evil 5 is a mixed bag to many. With some people criticizing it for being a summer block buster movie style game, and terrible control scheme. Other people on the other hand phrase it for being a better game than RE6, and another solid entry in the series. - RadioHead03
Once again another really divisive video game in a popular game series. Metal Gear Solid 4 received universal acclaim from critics. Calling it ambitious, and one of the best games ever made. Other people on the other hand bash MGS4 for having terrible writing, outdated mechanics, unlikable characters, and wooden movement. - RadioHead03
The Legend Of Zelda 2 is often praised and criticized. Some people criticize Zelda 2 for being completely different from the first Zelda game, and it’s difficulty. But some people praised it for it’s nice change up for gameplay. - RadioHead03
Minecraft is definitely a video game with a huge mix of love and hate at the same time. I actually don't love it nor hate it. It's okay, in my opinion. - NickelodeonYesAddminNo
I love it. This brings back memories - Yoshiandaglover
I'm on the loving side - darthvadern
Your probably surprised to see Minecraft on the list. Some people praise Minecraft for being a huge game full of exploring, and it’s creative use of the sandbox mode. Other people criticize Minecraft for being boring, repetitive, and uninteresting. - RadioHead03
I never owned a GameCube, I have a Wii so that's how I played it but I don't understand why everyone hates it. A lot of people say that Super Mario 64 was the biggest step in the franchise, but they were all wrong. This game is.
I'm on the loving side - darthvadern
Super Mario Sunshine is often phrased for it’s gameplay, soundtrack, levels, and F.L.U.D.D. But SMS is often criticized for it’s difficulty, weird controls, and awful cutscenes. - RadioHead03
Rather you love it or hate it, Dark Souls is definitely divisive. Some people complain the difficulty for the game, and say it’s too extreme. But others love the gameplay, and hardcore difficulty to the game. - RadioHead03
I used to love it. Not anymore though. All those updates ruined it - darthvadern
Another game you’d be surprised is divisive. The Windwaker is often considered one of the best Zelda titles due to it’s colorful art style, gameplay, soundtrack, story, etc. But some people criticize Windwaker for being too childish. Where the graphics look way to kid friendly, and not dark compared to other Zelda titles. - RadioHead03
I personally think it's the greatest video game ever released, at least on the Wii, but man, it is insane how many people hate it. Though it's criticized for its "lack of originality", it really made so many original ideas and moments in its fantastic levels that it's far better than its predecessor. And I actually think the hub world/map layout is better because you can actually see what you've done so far. Those who hate Super Mario Galaxy 2 have obviously played three levels and then given up.
Personally I've never been a fan of Fortnite. - egnomac
This one is obvious, at least on this website. As of this comment, it ranks 43rd on the "Best Games" list and 21st on the "Worst Games" list.
So many butthurt fanboys.
This game's just alright, I don't understand why everyone hates it, but I don't get all the high scores from critics either.
