Top Ten Most Emotionally Painful Serious Movies
With "serious" movies I mean movies that were made not made mainly for entertainment values (which also includes most psychological thrillers and gory horror movies).
Story about a teenage boy and his young child sister trying to survive on their own without home in Japan during World War 2.
Graphically shows the horrible events surrounding the genocide of black citizens in Darfur. The violence is realistic and unbelievably brutal.
By the way, this excellent movie is written and directed by Uwe Boll. He has done a lot of great serious movies, he just did his video game adaptions to earn money to produce his more controversial movies like this. People should give him another chance, watching this movie, "Bailout" (aka "Assault on Wall Street" or "Rampage".
PS: Who designed this cover artwork? It looks like a trashy action flick. On my DVD, there is a picture of the villain and a scene of the attack. You immediately know it's a serious movie, also there is no visible photoshop used on my DVD unlike in the picture here.

Shows the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, including an extensive realistic torture scene including whipping with a hooked whip.
I am not religious in any way - but those images hurt no matter who it is that is tortured. Yet these events occured propably thousands of times as a form of punishment, among even worse things probably.

This is not a very violent, but incredibly sad and depressing film.

Dolphins are social creatures of near human intelligence, and most Japanese would never want them killed or even eaten - they simply don't know about it.

Propably the most heartbreaking, graphic and painful movie about the holocaust of Jews in the Third Reich. It is both an incredibly visceral and brutal, as well as gentle and sensitive movie.

A documentary about prostitution in 3 different countries with widely varying circumstances. Whild in Thailand the prostitute actually lives a good life and likes her job, in Mexico it is more like a filthy job everyone looks down upon. But the Bangladesh segment is why I added this on here. In that country, lots and lots of child prostitutes are cooped up in small rooms in dirty und untidy ghettos.
Since this topic is handled extremely different from country to country I need to state that the director comes from Austria (like me) where prostitution is legal, in neighboring German speaking country Switzerland it is even legal at age 16 (legal age for sex in general is 14 in Austria and Germany, and 16 in Switzerland).
Early in the movie, a pregnant woman is repeatedly punched in her stomach by the main character, who acts upsettingly casual about it and later comments on it in a cynical way. This, in no way, added to the plot in any way and is simply disgusting to and painful to watch.
Unlike the other movies I added, I don't like this one. It feels unnecessarily shocking just for the sake of being shocking, and doesn't add up to much, unlike Gaspar Noé's magnificant "Enter the Void" or his controversial "Irreversible", where the violence is to show what the characters go through.
