Best Enslaved Albums

The Top Ten
1 Below the Lights

This one started a new sound and a new Era. Whilst the first 4 albums were black metal (with progressive edges), the 2 middle albums (Mardraum and Monumension) experimented, but this one is the first to find the balance between black metal and progressive rock.
The new albums tend more to progressive and less to extreme metal, here it is reversed. Amazing songs and playing. Perfect album.

2 Axioma Ethica Odini
3 In Times

My personal favourite of the new Era Enslaved. It has many similarities to Riitiir, but without the cons. The production is better, the songwriting is stronger and the vocals are top notch to. Enslaved unites everything they can: Amazing harsh and clean vocals, Tremolo picking and progressive rock solos, Blast beating Black metal and calming rock. Absolutely perfect album.

4 Riitiir

One of the highlights of newer Enslaved. Amazing Songwriting, amazing melodies and instrumentation. Here and there it has a little to many repetitions and the production is a little to mainstream, otherwise a satisfying listening.

5 Isa
6 Vikingligr Veldi
7 Ruun
8 Frost
9 Mardraum: Beyond the Within
10 Eld

A bit warmer than the predecessor Frost. A very Vikingly-feel album, with more clean singing than before and some very interesting riffs. With this Enslaved found a unique sound. Vikingligr Veldi and Frost sounded like standard black metal, this one has a very unique way of playing black Metal.

The Contenders
11 Vertebrae

By far not the best, but with some of Enslaved's best songs. The Watcher, Clouds etc… It started a new sound for Enslaved, which they continued in the following albums.

12 Monumension
13 E

This album took the longest to grow on me.. but it did well. It certainly is different than the older Enslaved. It is the album with almost no black metal instrumentation. But it is a progressive masterpiece with amazing songs. I feel a bit disappointed that they didn't continue this path with Utgard.

14 Blodhemn
15 Heimdal

I'm new to Enslaved, but this record is amazing from start to finish. a prog metal gem with black nuances

16 Utgard
