Lev Ivanovich Yashinwas a Soviet professional goalkeeper, known for his athleticism, positioning, stature, imposing presence in goal, and acrobatic reflex saves.
Yashin earned status for revolutionising the goalkeeping position by imposing his authority on the entire defense.
Yashin appeared in four World Cups from 1958 to 1970, and in 2002 was chosen on the FIFA Dream Team of the history of World Cups. In 1994, he was chosen for the FIFA World Cup All-Time Team, and in 1998 was chosen as a member of the World Team of the 20th Century. According to FIFA, Yashin saved over 150 penalty kicks in professional football - more than any other goalkeeper. He also kept over 270 clean sheets in his career, winning a gold medal at the 1956 Olympic football tournament, and the 1960 European Championships. In 1963, Yashin received the Ballon d'Or, the only goalkeeper ever to receive the award. He was voted the best goalkeeper of the 20th century by the IFFHS.
Gordon Banks is a former England international football goalkeeper. He made 628 appearances during a 15-year career in the Football League, and won 73 caps for his country. Regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, the IFFHS named Banks the second-best goalkeeper of the 20th century after Lev Yashin.
He played every game of the victorious 1966 World Cup and he made one of the game's great saves to prevent a Pelé goal in the 1970 World Cup, but was absent due to illness as England were beaten by West Germany at the quarter-final stage. Pelé, and numerous journalists and pundits, would later describe the save as the greatest in the history of the game. This was one of the greatest moments in World Cup history.
Dino Zoff is an Italian former professional football goalkeeper and is the oldest ever winner of the World Cup, which he earned as captain of the Italian national team in the 1982 tournament in Spain, at the age of 40 years, 4 months and 13 days, also winning the award for best goalkeeper of the tournament. Zoff also achieved great club success with Juventus, winning 6 Serie A titles, 2 Coppa Italia titles, and an UEFA Cup. He was elected the 3nd goalkeeper of 20th century by the IFFHS behind Lev Yashin and Gordon Banks.
He was capped 112 times with the Azzuri. He also placed 2nd in the 1973 Ballon d'Or.
Italy has two of the greatest goalkeepers of all times.
The best goalkeeper in the game is here.
Not only a good goalkeeper but also a good penalty scorer.
What is he doing' here?
For those who know football history, I confirm that Lev Yashin is the absolute number 1 and the number 2 is between Gordon Banks and Ricardo Zamora. The biggest percentage of football fans know nothing about Zamora.Too far in the past...
He doesn't have 0% metal anthrax.
Deleted votes. He has 3 legal votes (as far as I know).
Who is the responsible for it?
He should not be on this list
The English goalkeeper is the world recordholder with 1390 official matches in his 31 year-old career and also world recordholder (for a few years) as he played 125 international cups with his National team. Also elected by IFFHS as one the ten best goalkeepers of 20th century.I'm not so sure that he's most known for these achievements or for the two legendary goals of Maradona in 1986s World Cup match between Argentina and England.
German goalkeeper of 60s-70s, played with Bayern M., capped 95 times with the W. Germany National team.
He was elected 4th goalkeeper of 20th century after Yashin, Banks, Zoff (5th was Zamora - IFFHS century elections).
Very underrated in this list.
One of the greatest goalkeepers of the first half of 20th century.
