He's considered the originator of the djent technique. Thordendal was rated No. 35 by Guitar World in the top 100 greatest heavy metal guitarists of all-time, along with Meshuggah's rhythm guitarist Mårten Hagström.

He isn't very high on this list because he's basically a lead guitarist - he plays the solos so he's the lead guitarist but he also creates and plays riffs (djent style was invented by him)

7 Mårten Hagström Mårten Hagström, (born 27 April 1971) is the rhythm guitarist for the Swedish experimental metal band Meshuggah. Hagström, along with his bandmate Fredrik Thordendal, was rated #35 by Guitar World as the top 100 greatest heavy metal guitarist of all-time.

Excellent interplay with that sick djent axeman - Fredrik Thordendal. They've got chemistry - been childhood friends.
