Top Ten Facts About Big Nate Character Marty Wright

Martin Earl "Marty" Wright : Nate's father, a balding, overweight divorcee who lost his job in the eighth novel of the series (eventually getting another one). Like his son, he is somewhat clueless about his own failings, and considers himself an athlete despite his inherent laziness, and an expert golfer, though he constantly cheats or loses his ball. He is a health-nut and always tries to hand out healthy alternatives to candy on Halloween (raisins, prunes etc.), which are always rejected by trick-or-treaters. His first name was first stated on 7/28/05. He first appeared 1/10/91.

1 Golf is Marty's favorite sport, even though he is very awful at it.
2 Nate often parodies him in his comics, where he is a superhero, along with his sidekick (Ellen)
3 Once, Marty helped Nate built his Pinewood Derby car. He accidentally drilled through the roof of the car, and casually asked "how about a sun roof?". Later on, he cut his finger, and got blood all over the car.
4 He once handed out Rice Cakes for Halloween
5 He we was in P.S. 38 and was the hero of the first "Mud Bowl".
6 He is heavier than Nate and Ellen - COMBINED
7 Two running gags appear in every year. One is Halloween, when Marty usually buys lame snacks as Halloween candy, leading his house to be egged. (2) Thanksgiving, where Marty would set off the fire alarm.
8 Mr. Galvin taught Marty when he was a kid, and when Nate asked him if Marty was a good student, Mr. Galvin thought for a while.
9 He usually uses Top Flite golf balls. This is probably since he loses balls all the time, and Top Flite balls are OK and cheap
10 He  had a girlfriend named Mindy Glickstein, who he dated at least three times, according to a comic strip from 2016.
