Best Fan-Made Remakes of Sierra Entertainment Video GamesWhile Sierra Entertainment is my favourite video game developer of all time with their amazing games, I gotta admit that they are pretty bad when it comes to remaking their own games. Fans are prone to making a lot better remakes of Sierra games. So I will rank the best fan-made remakes of Sierra games. With taht being said here is the list.
The Top Ten
This might be one of, if not my favourite video game of all time. The Quest for Glory series has always been my favourite video game franchise out of the Sierra Entertainment franchises. They're the perfect mix between adventure and RPG and every one of these games (excluding the last one) is a blast to play through. The best of these games is without a doubt the second one.
I never actually played the original EGA version of the game though. No, I grew up with this flawless VGA remake by AGD Interactive. They are in my opinion the best poeple at remaking old Sierra games because they make stunning graphics and the plot is more or less evolved a bit if necessary. This game though stays exactly true to the original but adds stuff and fixes the flaws the original had and the music is so heavily improved. It has more athmosphere and the backgrounds are prettier and that's just weird to say for me because I almost always prefer EGA over VGA everyday but these people know how to ...more
Without a doubt the remake that improved the most over the original. While I personally thought the original King's Quest II was the best of the series, I've met a lot of people who say otherwise, that this is the worst of the King's Quest gmes (excluding the eighth installment). I can see why as it's mainly a carbon copy of the original with just a different setting. This remake improves on everything. A much deeper story with side-quests, improved characters and it feels like a completely different game almost, in a good way. Further proof to why AGD Interactive are the best at remaking old Sierra games.
King's Quest III is the only Sierra game with two different fan remakes. One by AGD Interactive and the other one by Infamous Adventures. This is the AGD Interactive and it's superior to the other version in every way. Like with King's Quest II, this game is evolved on and made longer although to a lesser extent since the original was already unique from its predecessors. Like with the second game the story is deeper though and it feels more serious than the original (I mean come on, the endgame in the original felt completely ordinary whereas in the remake it was way more epic and climatic despite both games having the same endgame). Overall third best here.
This is the only AGD remake that didn't change from the original except in graphics but that I am ok with as it was the first Sierra game ever and you should not mess with true classics regardless if you're remaking it or not. The original King's Quest was for me great but its setting is a bit uninteresting and I wasn't so interested in the setting in thsi game and due to that I do think this is one of the weaker remakes overall. Still great for what it is.
This is the Infamous Adventures remake of King's Quest III and the first Sierra remake by said company. Honestly for me it's very inferior to the original. The backgrounds are decent but the character portraits look..., so odd and weird. It doesn't do anything to change the plot a bit either and is thus last on my list.
