Top Ten Fantasy Book Series
The Top Ten
This series is undeniably one of the most popular fantasy/adventure books in the world. However, this series isn't really for me. Although the storyline revolves around a boy named Harry Potter who attends Hogwarts for wizardry and magic, it kind of confuses me. But that's just my opinion. The plots and scenes are great and I would rate this an 8/10.
I always liked Harry Potter better than LOTR. There were lots of times when I felt really bored reading LOTR, because nothing was happening and they were just walking around. There were also many characters who were underdeveloped and it took a very long time for Tolkien to show what a character was supposed to be like (by that I mean they had very similar personalities and there was nothing very different/unique about many of the characters, besides Sam and Aragorn and a few others. Most of the characters were only developed after a very long time, while in Harry Potter, you really understood all the characters.) I like LOTR too, but I believe that Harry Potter is better.
I’m on the sixth book. (Eight). This series has guided me through all my troubles. It has encouraged me to do so many things. Read, write, and draw. It inspired me to be the person I am today. It has encouraged my love of mythical, magic, and wolves. It inspired me of reading Warrior Cats. And when I was in trouble, I thought.:What would Harry do? :.
Definitely the best! Everything that you'd expect from a fantasy book is in here. Made up animals (hippogriffs, for example.) Also, there is a lot of magic in this and I appreciate that J.K. Rowling has spent some time thinking about magic spells and creatues. Overall, you should definitely read this at least once in your life as it as an amazing book. And, if you don't like reading, there's always the movie version, starring even Emma Watson! definitely a must read.
The Lord of the Rings has the best writing, plot, characters, complexity, and worldbuilding of any book ever written. It is both epic and realistic, both light and dark. It, and The Silmarillion, are the pinnacle of Fantasy. It deserves the #1 spot! The only reason it is second instead of first is because it's actually art, which is harder for big companies to get money from than cheap made-for-merchandise children's books, and it therefore is less often advertised.
I was split between this and Harry Potter, but what made me choose this is that this made a fantasy story span over the course of thousands of years, while with Harry Potter the timeline stretches about 50 years, I'm not saying Harry Potter is bad,(In fact, it excels in pacing sometimes) but The Lord of the Rings is a massive influence to all fantasy series being released today. While Harry Potter does a good job telling the story about a secret wizarding world, this series creates new races, new languages, and told an incredible story, Harry Potter is still amazing but it dwarfs in comparison to the world created by JRR Tolkien.
Established the rules of the fantasy world vis a vis the various races usually included in any subsequent tales. In addition, written in classic English prose with complex descriptions interspersed with detailed action-oriented segments. I will say the final battle in Harry Potter came close to the emotional content of the battle of Minus Tirith, but only close, not equal or superior to. And, the final segment of the Lord of the Rings in which the band of Hobbits must retake their homeland and the ring bearers depart Middle Earth has no parallel in Harry Potter.
It is always hard to choose my favorite fantasy book, it's simply my favorite genre. But I thought, well, why not give the crown to the one that started it all? I own, and I have read the series so many times, and my girlfriend was the one who really got me into this one. So now, we both have them almost memorized by heart. I can never say how great they are, it is pretty much inexpressible. It's just SO GREAT!
This Series wins out because of the characters. When you read the specific chapters even though you're reading through Cersei's twisted vision George makes you understand her mentality, he justifies the evil the characters do to the point where you start nodding along and whispering 'Okay I might do the same thing. '
The masterpiece of masterpieces, a truly extravagant book series, the magnum opus of fantasy novels. Realistic characters, astounding details, and plot arcs that will forever leave you guessing. It rivals, perhaps surpasses such series as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Need I say more?
This is one of the best fantasy series! The storyline is enormous and intriguing! Once you start reading you can never stop! It has everything.. Dragons, wars, twists and turns and Sex! The characters are well built and you can imagine the picture in your head as you read the book
Any Percy Jackson series in the top ten fantasy book series is only due to bastard children voting stupidly. What about the Kingkiller Chronilce, the Malazan series, just to name a few. I think ASOIAf should be first or second, followed by LOTR, then Harry Potter, then the other ones I mentioned. There are a plethora of series out there that top anything written by Rick Riordan easily.
I had a friend who liked Harry Potter so much. I told him that Percy Jackson was way better. He didn't believe me. I made him read The Lightning Thief. Now he is the deputy of my Percy Jackson Empire at my school.
Definitely will end up as a classic for years to come. We all Laughed and Cried with these Characters. They made me feel more confident in myself, find the hero inside me, and maybe a tint of romance. These books made me wonder what life would be like as a demigod for me. I know kinda weird, but that's just me.
The Percy Jackson series is one of the most readable fantasy book out there and is great for both children, young adults and even adults. It not only includes laugh out loud humour but also is a book you can learn a lot from. Personally I learnt a lot about the ancient Greek mythology.
Very well written (I love Rick Riordan)
I really love the comedy spin-off 'Percy Jackson and the Greek Gods' where Percy explains the Greek myths
In my to five fantasy book series
This is my favorite book series, how is it not first? Really all of Rick Riordan's books are my favorites. I think this is better than Harry Potter, and even better than the original Percy Jackson series, because you get introduced to so many new characters, as well as old ones.
This series was amazing! I love all the characters (except piper and jason) and the variety of personalities! The comedy was also spot on! It doesn't beat Harry Potter but I do think it's second best and Rick improved from the PJ series to this series. Althought now his Trials of Apollo series suck. Anyway, the plots were amazing and leo! Ahhh! Best character ever! I love love love these series! Ah! I just can't describe it! ANd all their crazy adventures and their sarcasm and humor is hilarious! Also, the way they care for each other and communicate! Ah! It still doesn't beat Harry Potter because Harry Potter is written really well and very detailed with likable characters with flaws which make them special and it's so detailed it's like you can almost touch it! But HOO and PJ was still very good!
Looking back, this series wasn't that great. Riordan's writing style does not work nearly as well in 3rd person, there were too many characters to focus on, and The Blood of Olympus ended really anticlimactically. Percy Jackson was good though.
The entire Percy Jackson series is better than any book series ever... ! And the Heroes of Olympus is much better than The Olympians, so this should be first and The Olympians second!
I love The Chronicles of Narnia. I cannot believe it is only number seven. Me and my mom began reading the Lion, The With, and The Wardrobe first. It is an amazing book. My favorite character might be Lucy or the White Witch. When we finished that amazing book, we watched the movie, and then we read the Magician's Nephew! I am ten, and these books are so awesome.
I absolutely love The Chronicles of Narnia! I'm just finishing up The Silver Chair, The NEED to make a movie of that. And soon!
I've read the first book, and it was awesome, haven't read the others but the movies are in my top favorites!
They seem like books for little kids, but dig deeper and you'll find lots of profound meaning.
Maybe a ripoff of the lord of the rings and star wars, but still it is still a great series.
And if we consider that the author was 15 when he wrote eragon, I would forgive him for the ripping. After all, I would never write such a masterpiece.
But sorry guys. This series will never be a legend because it isn't original enough.
This series was a great one! It has almost everything I want in a book. Tons of action and a great storyline. If you have not read this series READ IT NOW!
Such an intricate world, you really get lost in the pages. If you know the film then read the book because unlike the film you won't be disappointed!
What? This is one of the worst books ever. He ripped off from lord of the rings and star wars. The only reason he's famous is because of his young age
Its one of the few book series I can read over and over again, and I never get tired of the charecters, imagery, and the great story lines.
I read the first book and loved it
Great series, have read it 5 times
It is a great book! Menigo is the best character
It's such a great book series. I recommend everyone to read it. Even though the books are thick, you seriously won't be able to put it down. Read it.
Some of the best books I've ever read, and by far my favorite fantasy series.
Intriguing, captivating, and endearing. You won't be able to put it down.
Captivating and the magic system is great... Everyone loves Kvothe
I love the Hunger Games! I personally think that it's better than Harry Potter, although I'd have to say that this is tied with PJO and HoO. The Hunger Games is just such a great story and one of my favorite books of all time.
I have saw some of these movies, but I like more of a magical fantasy book. This is still a good series though.
Brave brilliant darkly beautiful futuristic story of survival loved it
Not fantasy, good books but not better then any other classics
You can simply not go wrong with Warriors. It has juicy, mystery plots and epic battles. Along the journey of the exciting read, you get such a good feel for the characters and you feel like your there with them. Drama will unfold among the cats and its very interesting and makes you feel the tension and need to read more of the books. Once your in the Warriors world, there's no way out. An amazing read. If your into this type of stuff, read it for sure.
Warriors, Harry Potter, and Wings of Fire my absolute favorite series! Warriors is a book series about cats who live in rival clans. There’s Thunderclan, Riverclan, Windclan, Shadowclan, and Skyclan. In this series we see cats chose between doing what they think is right, or what the code they follow says is right. We see forbidden romance, how greed can change someone, and all kinds of thrilling plots. There are different arcs in the series, seven, to be exact, and they all show different perspectives. We have the arc that shows how the clans began, Dawn of the Clans, the first arc, The prophecy’s begin, followed by The new Prophecy, The power of Three, Omen of the Stars, A Vision of Shadows, and the newest, The Broken Code. They also have Super editions that show the life of different cats, and novella’s, short stories about a certain event in a characters life. Lastly, they have a few graphic novels. I totally recommend this series!
I absolutely love Warriors. I love the prophecy that they have to solve and the battles of the clans. The books are so interesting in my opinion and I always can't wait to read the next book. I hope this series never ends!
They SHOULD be in the top 3. I mean, come on! Warriors is probably one of the best series ever! It is very creative and it's not the classical magicians or elves or things like that, it's the world by the point of view of the cats.
If you haven't read these, you're missing out.
I love this kind of thing.
Voted here to say, THEY ARE MAKING A T.V. SERIES OF THIS. IT WILL BE ON THE BBC.
Y'all know that I love the Wheel of Time. Sure, it's slow at times (*Cough* Sea Folk, Rodel Ituralde *Cough*) but 95% of the time you're captivated by it. There are times when you want to say, "That did not just happen! " or where you just sit there asking the air "why? " You'll cry, you'll ponder, you'll laugh, and quite often. You might come up with how the story might progress, though it won't be what you expect. There's romance, battle, comedy, everything! You find yourself liking characters that you didn't like at first. By the last couple books, you'll think of them as friends. 14 books really makes a bond, although not a Warder's.(Kudos to anyone who gets it! ) Sometimes, you don't realize something until later, and you can't believe that you missed it. (Book 13- Aludra's dragons are cannons! ) Don't be afraid of the last 3 books, Brandon Sanderson does a nice job of continuing the story.
Brown Ajah for life!
All the characters are very likable. Moiraine is fascinating and manipulative, and Rand is tragic and heroic. Those two are my personal favorite characters.
The mythology is great. The villaisn are despicable- especially the White Cloaks.
I have finished the first five, and can't wait for more.
Other great fantasy series are Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games, Twilight, His Dark Materials, all of the Rick Riordans (Percy Jackson, Red Pyramid, Roman), Fablehaven, Redwall, and Ranger's Apprentice. I'm too young to read G.R.R. Martin's series, but it sounds great. However, I was seriously dissapointed by Narnia. The movies are better.
Half the books above this aren't even real fantasy. Jordan created an enormous and beautiful world with this series, and it should go down as one of the classics. I think the only reason it's not higher is because the public's attention spans have dissolved. Most people don't have the patience to read a 14 book series, and it doesn't have a dumbed-down television show or movie
This series should be number One! It is so expansive and itg reaches such a wide audience. More people need to give it a chance and not be intimidated by it's size and scope.
Top 3 without any doubt, too many young people missed this series.
I have absolutely no idea how this wasn't on here already.
Why isn't this higher? In fact, why isn't this in the top 5?
The best book series ever!
Divergent was good, Insurgent was boring, and Allegiant just sucked (and not because Tris died). The characters were boring, underdeveloped, and annoying, and although the idea was interesting, the series was not written that great.
This is like one of the best series I ever read in life. Once I started reading the book, I can't let go. I just had to find out what's gonna happen next. This series is like I don't even know what to say it's just so amazing and thrilling.
In my opinion it's better than the hunger games
Better than the movies
I can't believe that. This SHOULD be first. That's one of the most creative series ever to me. NOBODY ever thought that dragons could be protagonists, but Tui T. Sutherland did. Also even though I've read only one book it has a creative plot and it's simply amazing for now. Five stars.
This is one of my favorite books, as I did read Warriors; I like WoF more it has real problems, and really good endings of the problem. like oh look DarkStalker is here to kill us all, better turn him into a whole different dragon crossbread with NightWing and RainWing, oh lets make him like srawberrys too!
Honestly, the only books on here I like are Harry Potter, Fablehaven, and of course, Wings Of Fire. Like who doesn't love a good book about dragons!?
Great series! If you like this, give Warriors or Harry Potter a try! I would also recommend a series called Foxcraft, it’s wonderful!
Spellbinding series about stories coming to life. Originally written in German.
Reading this series almost sent me into a state of shock and draws such emotion from me. Plus the magic system is great and understandable, unlike anything I've seen before. And yeah, I've read Harry Potter.
Wonderful author, well thought out story components. He always has very well conceived magical elements. In this series, it focuses on the ability of characters to ingest bits of metal and use them for special powers
Love all of Sanderson's stuff (haven't read stormlight) but Mistborn is so good
Can't wait for Wax & Wayne 4
I'm a HUGE harry potter fan- I mean I've been reading and rereading it since I was seven- so I think saying TMI should be second on the list might be a bit biased of of me.. but it really should. I mean, I got to live the lives of these characters and they became so dear to me that I was literally lost by the time I was done with the series.
This book series should definitely be higher up on the list. It is funny and action packed with unexpected twists and turns. One of my favorite series!
Why is it number seventeen! This is the best book series that I have ever read I couldn't put these books down. It deserves to be much higher on the list!
I mean jace is enough for this to be number one, I mean he would argue himself if he was here.
A wonderful series of magic mystery and love set it a magical world of fantasy a great read epic story line
This should be top 10 surely! Richly intertwined fantasy comedy with series within a series! The city watch books alone are top 10 material!
I love terry pratchett's series! One of the few books that can authentically make me laugh. Very witty humour with very humane themes throughout. Also has the greatest portrayal of Death.
Also, you think Harry potter was the first series to introduce a magical school of wizards? Terry did it way before Rowling, with his Unseen University.
Very well written, the plot comes together beautifully altogether. The characters are likable and not at all overpowered. It does a good job with suspense in the book itself but not for coming books. It is however, a huge cliche and thankfully got a little more original in books two and three.
Very creative. I heard there's a movie coming out someday soon.
