Top Ten Fantasy Books of All Time

The Top Ten

1 The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien Product Image

Although the Lord of the Rings is my Favourite Book of all time, I voted for the Hobbit for the memories it gave me as a child (and nostalgia upon multiple re-reads! ). Simply, no book has ever matched the feeling of adventure in this (mostly) light hearted standalone masterpiece. This book is timeless.

This should be #2

This book is my favorite I can read it over and over again it gave me so much memories and the movies are the best

2 The Fellowship of the Ring - J. R. R. Tolkien The Fellowship of the Ring - J. R. R. Tolkien Product Image

The Lord Of The Rings is a masterpiece; rarely do I use that term. As others have said, this wasn't the first high fantasy book ever written, but it's impact on popular culture was such that it's often regarded as such. Few books have left a lasting impression on me; the story, the characters and the underlying sadness - it's simply one of the greatest stories ever written in my opinion.

This book didn't start the whole fantasy genre. Don't be mislead. There were other books, stories and authors before. Its not the first and its not the best. Jackson-Movies marketing-propaganda made them first and best, what is of course not truth

This book started the whole fantasy genre. It is the top in plot crafting, and the use of language is beautiful. A great book!

No, this needs to be higher than The Hunger Games. I love The Hunger Games Books, but they can't beat The Lord of the Rings

8 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J. K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - J. K. Rowling Product Image

This book should be ahead of, "Fellowship of the Ring"

Best book ever! So creative and unique.

It should be below the Hobbit.

You're a wizard Harry

12 Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan Product Image

How the hell is this not higher on the list?

Get this in the top 10, any PJ book deserves to be there.

It is the best

Nice set of books, but way too childish and predictable to be on the same scale of some of the real greats

13 A Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin A Game of Thrones - George R. R. Martin Product Image

This should be way higher along with a storm of swords which is the best of the series

14 Watership Down - Richard Adams Watership Down - Richard Adams Product Image

I love it I also love his dark matareals

15 American Gods - Neil Gaiman American Gods - Neil Gaiman Product Image
16 The Sword of Shannara - Terry Brooks The Sword of Shannara - Terry Brooks Product Image

Not quite The Lord of the Rings, but well written and plenty of action. I liked most of the character and found it to be a fun book. Well worth reading.

After Lord of the Rings, likely the best.

24 The Kingkiller Chronicle - Patrick Rothfuss The Kingkiller Chronicle - Patrick Rothfuss Product Image

This is such a good book series. I love it. I love the way the author writes these books. It doesn't even matter that both of the books are thick, because you just disappear into the story and Kvothe's life. I don't understand why people don't like this more. It has mystery, fantasy, life and everything.

Seriously the best book series ever, although the last book are yet to be published. The character and world building are perfect, the story is beautiful, and it will make you weep and laugh.

25 The Magicians - Lev Grossman The Magicians - Lev Grossman Product Image
