2 Nina Hagen Band Nina Hagen Band was a German punk rock band consisting of Nina Hagen (vocals), Reinhold Heil (keyboard), Herwig Mitteregger (drums), Bernhard Potschka (guitar) and Manfred Praeker (bass), that formed in 1978 and disbanded in 1979.

Nina Hagen Band released two albums, "Nina Hagen Band" and "Unbehagen", both of which were critical and commercial successes in Germany and Austria. They are generally considered classic German albums retrospectively and are often regarded as the peak of Nina Hagen's musical career. The style of the albums is usually described as punk, but also contains influences of other rock genres such as New Wave. 3 Wir Sind Helden Wir sind Helden is a German alternative pop band consisting of married couple Judith Holofernes (vocals, guitar) and Pola Roy (drums), as well as Jean-Michel Tourette (keyboard, guitar) and Mark Tavassol (bass, guitar), that formed in 2000.

Despite commercial success, Wir sind Helden are known for their offbeat and unique musical style and playful lyricism including witty word play, all of which does not fit the German mainstream, making the band highly popular in indie music circles. Wir sind Helden's music is hardly ever heavy and mostly light-hearted, often altering between pensive and comic. 4 Silbermond Silbermond is a German alternative rock band consisting of Stefanie Kloß (vocals), Thomas Stolle (guitar), Johannes Stolle (bass), Andreas Nowak (drums) that formed in 2000.

After several smaller gigs, their 2004 debut album "Verschwende deine Zeit" became a surprise success in Germany . Since then, each of their albums had moderate to very good success, all of them being certified Gold or Platinum in Germany . 5 Beyond the Black Beyond the Black is a German symphonic metal band from Mannheim originally consisting of Jennifer Haben (vocals), Nils Lesser (guitar), Christopher Hummels (guitar, vocals), Tobias Derer (drums), Erwin Schmidt (bass) and Michael Hauser (keyboard). As of August 2016, the members parted ways, with Haben planning on continuing the project with a new band whose member have not yet been confirmed. Formed one year earlier, their 2015 debut album “Songs of Love and Death” was a sleeper hit in their home country, with the band appearing as guest stars in several shows and festivals. One year later, their second album “Lost in Forever” was released and met with similar success. Beyond the Black’s music is notably melodious and bombastically orchestral, yet hard due to the use of heavy guitar riffs. Whilst most of their songs feature only Haben’s clear vocals, Hummels provided screamo vocals on some of the tracks.
6 Juli Juli is a German alternative rock band consisting of Eva Briegel (vocals), Jonas Pfetzing (guitar), Simon Triebel (guitar), Andreas Herde (bass) and Marcel Römer (drums), that formed in 2001. They had their national breakthrough with their debut single “Perfekte Welle” in 2004, with the follow up album “Es ist Juli” being their most successful record to date, being certified triple platinum. Their style is soft and melodic rock music with indie influences and German lyrics (including all songs from the album “In Love”). They have been compared to both Wir sind Helden and Silbermond, all three of them being female fronted German language bands that had their biggest successes around the mid-’00s.
7 Tic Tac Toe Tic Tac Toe was a German all-female hip hop group consisting of Jazzy (Marlene Tackenberg), Ricky (Ricarda Wältken) and Lee (Liane Wiegelmann) that formed in 1995 and was infrequently active until 2007 - during that time they disbanded twice, and had Sara Brahms replacing Ricky from 1999 to 2000. ...read more.
8 Monrose Monrose was a German girl group consisting of Mandy Capristo, Bahar Kizil and Senna Guemmour that was formed in the fifth season of the German edition of Popstars in 2006 and disbanded in 2011. During that time, they released four albums, all of which were commercially successful in German speaking countries, with Monrose having had an unusually long career for artists that were cast in a TV show in Germany. Monrose's music can be described as dancable pop music with a focus on catchy hooks. Their best known songs are "Shame" and "Hot Summer", both of which topped the German, Austrian and Swiss charts.

10 S.E.X. Appeal S.E.X. Appeal is a German dance music project that formed in 1996 after lead singer Lyane Leigh and rapper Raz-Ma-Taz left the eurodance project E-Rotic by David Brandes. Leigh also worked with Brandes as the first lead singer of Missing Heart.

Raz-Ma-Taz left the band after one year and only one single, with singer and rapper Gino Gillian replacing him for their debut album "Peeping Tom" in 1999. Every release of S.E.X. Appeal since then featured Leigh as the only vocalist. Despite her being credited as the only official active member, some of the group's single releases credit her as as a featured artist.

In the beginning, S.E.X. Appeal's style was bubblegum dance, similar to music groups such as Aqua or Toy-Box, and had a strong novelty touch. Most of their older songs revolved around a variety of comical sexual topics, but used no curse language. 12 Eisblume Eisblume is a German pop rock band consisting of Ria Schenk (vocals), Benny Baumann (guitar), Philipp Schardt (bass), Philipp Schadebrodt (drums) and Golo Schultz (keyboards), that formed in 2007. In 2009, Eisblume released their debut album "Unter dem Eis", which contains their only major hit "Eisblumen", to moderate chart success. Their second album, "Ewig" followed in 2012 and was similarly successful, but did not spawn a hit single.
