Top Ten Female Harry Potter Characters

The Top Ten
1 Hermione Granger

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hermione is super smart, compassionate, loyal, and independent. I like that she changes so much in the series. From a bossy, know-it-all, beaver-teethed, bushy-haired girl too a beautiful, amazing woman. Hermione does not let Harry and Ron tell her what to do.. and she makes amazing quotes. Like the one about friendship and bravery. Hermione is not flawless flirty girl. She has flaws, which make her interesting. And tons of times she saves Harry. Without her, Voldemort would still be in power cause harry would be dead, and Buckbeak would have died. I wish I was just like her. And Hermione should have been Harry's wife. She suits him better than the idiot Ron. Ginny is not as good as Hermione. Hermione deserves Harry.

She has two men wrapped around her finger, Krum, and Ron. When Ron met Hermione on the train, it reminded me of the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants. Doug went head over heels for Evie like Ron for Hermione. Super Quiddtich player Krum these her out of all the girls begging him. Hermione didn't care about getting a date until Krum nervously asked her out. In the book, it is said that he came to the library every day to meet Hermione, but couldn't screw up the courage to ask her. Ron was jealous because he liked her and wanted to ask her, but his sports idol got to her first.

She's intelligent beyond words and has a creative, strong mind like Twilight Sparkle. She's heroic and strong, and she and Luna are outcasts, but they get on with their lives. For someone coming from the Muggle world, she's impressive.

2 Luna Lovegood Luna Lovegood was a witch from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. She was the only child of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood. Her mother accidentally died while experimenting with spells when Luna was nine and Luna was raised by her father, who was the editor of the magazine The Quibbler, in a rook-like house near the village of Ottery St Catchpole in Devon... read more

Luna Lovegood makes me feel like I am not the only weirdo out there. In school, I am considered the weird one out of my group of friends. That sometimes makes me feel shameful and down, because my friends always say that being weird is not good. But when I picked up Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and got to where Luna was, I quickly fell in love with this weird and dreamy girl. She related so much to me, which meant so much because no one else seemed quite weird. I quickly switched to Luna, and she became my favorite character. Hermione was no longer my favorite character. Evanna Lynch, in my humble opinion, is the best Harry Potter actress. Even more than Emma Watson. And as the story went on, Luna became much more than a weird and dreamy side character. She was kind, smart, creative, and understanding. Her kindness reflected the most on me. Remember how sweet and friendly she was to Harry, Ron, and Hermione even if they insulted her? That is just amazing. I was surprised that Luna didn't lash back and be angry. She just smiled at them and her kindness came all the way out to be their friends. She got in on pure personality. Hermione got in since she was saved, but Luna... awesome. AWesome girl.

3 Ginny Weasley Ginny Weasley is a prominent character in the "Harry Potter" series by J.K. Rowling. She is the youngest child and only daughter of the Weasley family. Initially introduced as a shy girl with a crush on Harry Potter, Ginny develops into a strong, independent young woman. Skilled in magic and Quidditch, she plays a pivotal role in the fight against Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters.

I enjoyed Ginny simply because of the role she played as Harry's love interest. However, I never truly received a genuine glimpse of her personality, any distinctiveness or outstanding qualities, which bummed me out. It felt as if Rowling minimized this character's potential as a strong female lead. I don't really know Ginny as an intimate person, because she was more minor compared to Hermione. She only took the spotlight in "The Half-Blood Prince"-- and because of her bigger role in the sixth installment, it's my favorite book of the series.

Years ago I used to think she was called Virginia.
But Ginevra is a better name for Harry Potter books.
Chamber of Secrets was because of Tom Riddles diary, she had a terrible first year tormented, nearly killed.
She didn't use a love potion we know from Ron when he ate the chocolate cauldrons which would also be out of date if the potion was also.
She was skeptic about Fred and George's love potions, not really a girl who wants them.
"Leave him alone, he didn't want all that! " said Ginny. It was the first time she had spoken in front of Harry. She was glaring at Malfoy- Chamber of Secrets
Both of them smiled at Harry, who grinned back which made Ginny go scarlet - she had been very taken with Harry ever since his first visit to The Burrow
"Because - oh, shut up, laughing, you two - because they've both, just been turned down by girls they asked to the ball! " said Ginny
That shut Harry and Ron up. - Goblet of Fire
"I didn't ask - I didn't want - Voldemort killed my parents! " Harry spluttered. "I got famous because he murdered my family but couldn't kill me! Who wants to be famous for that? Don't they think I'd rather it'd never-"
"We know, Harry," said Ginny earnestly.
Use your braincells for once and realise she is not some stupid bratty fangirl.

4 Minerva McGonagall

She's strong, intelligent, brave and also kind - remember the time with Professor Trelawney? She's also fair, like when she had to subtract points from Gryffindor because Harry broke the rules. Ass-kicking moments, snarky funny moments you name it she's done it. Isn't it cute her animagus form is a cat? If you read her background on Pottermore, you'll feel even more respect for her. She's like one of the coolest Professors in Hogwarts!

She's always been there for Harry in a really subtle way. You can tell that she really cares about him - and all of her students, for that matter. She is a total badass (I mean, seriously, she can turn into a cat! ) and a sassmaster (the Umbridge vs McGonagall bits were honestly my favourite parts of the books).

Professor McBadass! every time she turns up, she gives us a lesson in life, a stern glare if we deserves one and once in a while a laugh while we don't expect it. And she's a helluva fighter, always ready to rip the guts out of everyone who tries to hurt "her" children - now matter how old or defenceless she seems - she would make Chuck Norris eat his vegeteables.

5 Nymphadora Tonks

Tonks is such an amazing character. She was a kind and loyal Hufflepuff, that didn't care if her true love, Lupin, was a werewolf. She was a very unique character, and not afraid to be herself. She was also a metamorphmagus, even though I couldn't say that's what makes her amazing. She was also brave, and unfortunately lost her life in the battle of Hogwarts.

Nymphadora Tonks is my absolute favorite. She should be after Ginny because Ginny is a big mary-sue, whereas Tonks is incredible. My reasons why Tonks is the best:

1. She's a Hufflepuff

Tonks is a perfect example of a true, strong Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs, to me AND J.K Rowling, are the best houses, for the kind, fair, hard working people. My best friend is a Hufflepuff, and Hufflepuff house is undoubtedly the best Harry Potter house.

2. She is a Metamorphmagus

That is so awesome! Look around in the Harry Potter books. Who else is a metamorphmagus? That's just amazing! You can change what you look like. Tonks has a beautiful power.

3. She takes you for who you are

Nymphadora married Lupin, even though he was a werewolf. She and him were in love, but Lupin was worried he would mess with their offspring and Dora's reputation. However, Nymphie didn't care, and they married even though Lupin was a werewolf.

4. "Nymphadora Tonks" is an awesome name

Not much to say here. Nymphadora Tonks is such a cool name.

5. Tonks is an Auror and Inspired Harry's Job Idea

Aurors are definitely the best jobs. They capture dark wizards, and are pretty much superheroes! Tonks was one of these, and not only that, she inspired Harry's idea to be one of these incredibly, brave, strong people.

6. She's a member of the order of the Phoenix

Seriously? The Order of the Phoenix? That excluding, secretive, smart group? You think you would be in it? Yeah. Only for the awesome. #onlyawesome

7. Nymphadora has a Wonderful, Flawed Personality

She's kind, fair, funny, loyal, brave, and feisty (those are great traits) but also flawed, by being pre-ety clumsy. However, it is good to be flawed. If you weren't flawed nicely you would be an awful Mary-Sue like Ginny.

8. She Really Cares about Ones She loves

Nymphadora changed her patronus to a wolf after Lupin became engaged, or in love,... more

6 Bellatrix Lestrange A psychotic death eater who escaped from Azkaban, and is fiercely loyal to Voldemort. Murderer of many people such as Sirius Black, and also a sadist who drove the Longbottoms mad.

How come she's at #6? She should've been in the top #3 at least, I'd rank her #1 though. She's the strongest female character in Harry Potter. She knows how to fight, is exceedingly courageous and doesn't shy away from things most women would. She's the epitome of feminism and I honestly don't understand how that Granger girl got the top spot. Aside from Bella's courage, she's extremely loyal to the Dark Lord, and strongly devoted. She also is one of the best Death Eaters in every way possible, outperforming the men. If I were to state every single good quality of hers, I'd go on for hours, so I'm just going to end it here. At the end, I'd like to say that Bellatrix Lestrange is a role model for all females.

If you reckon she shouldn't be on here,
1. Helena Bonham Carter is an absolutely amazing actress.
2. Bellatrix is a person to show to you how to stand up for yourself, and for friends or accompaniments.
3. She represents a strong brave woman, and I would honestly look up to her a tiny bit, only for these reasons.

7 Fleur Delacour Fleur Weasley, née Delacour, is a character in the "Harry Potter" series written by J.K. Rowling. She hails from France and initially comes to Hogwarts as a participant in the Triwizard Tournament. Fleur later marries Bill Weasley and becomes a part of the Weasley family. Known for her beauty and charisma, she is also a capable witch who fights bravely in the Second Wizarding War.

Fleur Delacour... a slightly controversial character. Two of the three heroines shared a profound dislike for her, (Mrs. Granger in the fourth, Mrs. Potter (Weasley) in the sixth,) but yet, beyond all that teasing, slight narcissism, and snobbishness, Ms. Weasley (Delacour) managed to prove her worth in the end. Indeed, the two heroines have now learned to at least share a grudging respect for her, if not quite love- they are all now part of the same family, after all.

Her name is a flower and its true... beautiful... not only that, she is powerful and remember how she told Mrs Weasley that she would always love Bill, even if he wasn't handsome anymore, and how "all these scars show my husband is brave! "
yeah, we all love her deep down

She genuinely cares about her family, she doesn't care that her finance has a scar on his face, and she's a strong women who's chosen by the Goblet of Fire as the best option of her school.

8 Molly Weasley

Well if it wasn't Molly, Harry wouldn't find his way to Platform nine and three quarters. Ever.

Molly is so good! Without her the amazing series wouldn't be there! She told harry where platform nine three quatres was

She is the most loving person in the harry potter
Series after hermione granger!

9 Cho Chang

Well she got her boyfriend MURDERED at age of 15or 16 and after that her second boyfriend was the boy who was present at the murder of her first boyfriend and then her best friend betrayed her and because she forgave that friend you should not hate her. And after fifth year in sixth year harry started liking Ginny and going out with Luna and after that year cho graduated so she did not get the chance to make up. And like it or not, harry said hurtful things to her.And she was already having her doubts about him because of Cedric s death so she choose Michael corner. In truth she isn't blamable.

Cho is awesome and nice and even when Marietta betrayed the DA, she still forgave her, knowing that she was just trying to be a good person. and Umbridge is intimidating so... if I was gonna be tortured to death (by her stupid little cough, of course) I don't know... I might give in... just maybe... nah not really. (well that's just the Slytherin in me eh? )

10 Narcissa Malfoy

Unlike her villainous counterparts, narcissa malfoy showed that she actually cared for people she loved, doing brave things against her will and Voldemort himself. She wasn't afraid to stand out from the crowd and separate herself from the scared followers around her. Overall, narcissa malfoy was a hidden hero in the Harry Potter books saving the chosen one himself and being strong for her family.

Narcissa is basically the reason Voldemort was killed. If she had of said that Harry was dead, he would have been killed on the spot and the world would be doomed. Narcissa really is a hero and she loves her son so much. She, like her sister, defies the family name and betrays Voldemort. SHE SHOULD BE RATED HIGHER.

Narcissa deserves to be #1. She wasn't afraid to literally just LIE to Voldemort to save her son, and besides what's so good about Hermione?

The Contenders
11 Lily (Evans) Potter

Most people don't really think about her only because there wasn't much written about her. However, she truly is an amazing witch. During the dark times of the height of Voldemort, she married and had a child during this chaotic time which is something that not everyone can do. She also lived most of her childhood with a sister that downright loathes her even when they were adults. And when she turned against Snape, the only friend she had after her sister turned against her, that was something that was exceptionally hard to do. Snape was the only friend she had that she could talk to during that difficult time with her sister. Turning back against this old friend required bravery. (It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to our friends. - Dumbledore)

Lily Evans Potter has a right to be here. Lily is much more than a side, one-second, stupid, character. She was a wonderful mother, and an amazing female character. Lily's strong, kind, brave, beautiful, smart, and heroic. Lily had a rude sister, who was quite jealous of her, but she was able to be strong and not hurt Petunia's feelings. She sacrificed herself for her son so Voldemort would not kill him. Seriously, without Lily, the Harry Potter series would not exist. And Lily made friends with poor Snape, who got terribly bullied by a terrible man. She was very kind to Snape and stood up to him. she only turned away from him because he called her something rude in a fit of anger. Understandable. And Lily is just like a lily... beautiful, and sweet. And if you think about it, she saved Harry twice. once with her amazing sacrifice, and here's the other one: Snape saved Harry, once. But to save Harry, Snape had to be on Harry's side. And to be on Harry's side he had to be on Dumbledore's side. And Lily helped him get onto Dumbledore's side. So, technically, Lily saved Harry twice. She is my favorite mother, perhaps next to Mrs. Weasley.

12 Lavender Brown

Actually, it wasn't lavender that gave harry a love potion it was Remelda Vain, and that got put down a few minutes later by slughorn. Lavender had a crush on ron, and when it was his first quidditch game, and they won because of him ( and harry ) they had a big celebration in the dormitories. And when he got put down by his brothers, lavender came over and kissed him. Remember now?

Read the books...you look at her movie character.
She was just a giggling girly girl with her best friend Parvati who was also a giggling girly girl.
Not Half Blood Prince - I wanna snog won won.

My favorite character

13 Dolores Umbridge

What? How is she here? She shouldn't be on the list! She SUCKS. And she should have these three options. Fall off a cliff, stab yourself, or run through a trapdoor and starve until, you die. And if you don't want to, then I will feed you to my dog, Lady Gaga.

Ya know what, Dolores Umbrige? Just go jump off a cliff. Or a plane. Or anything. Just go jump off of something and die. Please just die. I get that you made the book and movie interesting and all... but please. I give you my full permission to jump off a cliff. Just do it.

I hate her as a person but she made the book so interesting! She's made so many funny moments, and it's why Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book. She makes a funny and interesting character

14 Ariana Dumbledore

We didn't really hear her backstory that much! She looks like an awesome character. She coulda at least be involved more!

I wish she didn't have to be hidden she could at least be allowed to go out and make some friends

15 Sybill Trelawney

Perhaps more important to the plot in the books (the whole prophecy thing in book 5), this character is my favourite because of her over the top persona and her representation of a psychic that looks just like one in real life. I think this character looks exactly like I imagined her in the books.

Sybill Trelawney is so dumb, I was so happy when Umbridge almost sacked her.

She is so cool. I love psychic characters in movies and books so much!

16 Olympe Maxime

So true, I reckon French is the most fashionable language.

I wish she and Hagrid got married. They were an adorable couple.

17 Angelina Johnson

I definitely think Angelina should've been above some of them. She was so good at Quidditch.

I wonder how J.K Rowling named her Angelina because Angelina is not a very common name.

I don't know what to say

18 Rita Skeeter

Yes, Skeeter, as in "mosquito". Skeeter can go jump off a cliff and crash in to a rock spike. A liar and a fraud

I can not believe it #14! Go drown yourself Skeeter.

Skeeter. Flush you down the toilet

19 Moaning Myrtle

She is really funny but I wish she didn't die.

20 Rowena Ravenclaw

Why is every founder of Hogwarts have to have the same first letter in the names?! Why J.K. Rowling?! Why?!

The founder of the best Hogwarts house. Gryffindors get all the glory because they are too reckless.

I'm a ravenclaw

21 Padma Patil

She is very intelligent and smart...absolutely more than what she is shown

Harry went to the Yule ball with her twin sister Parvati. Padma was Rons date

Yule ball with harry!

22 Pomona Sprout
23 Astoria Greengrass

I don't hate her but I don't love her either..

24 Sue Li

We don't need to know about every character.
Do you want to know the name of the ice cream lady at the zoo in the first book?
The name of the man who gave The Dursley's and Harry the boat to the rock on the sea.
Whoever gave Vernon the gun, packets of crisps each and four bananas unless it was the same man his description - A toothless old man came ambling up to them, pointing, with a rather wicked grin.

She's mentioned once in the whole series... Actually I don't know if she was even in the series or just on Pottermore..

Who is she? I don't even know her?
