Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter known for her deep expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz. She is also a well-known member of the 27 Club, as she overdosed on alcohol at age 27.
Everyone knows Amy Winehouse was greatly talented. She uses such great vocal range that her music never gets old. The music on the radio as of 2014 makes me sick, Kesha isn't even a singer she's all auto tuned. Kesha admitted herself that she's garbage sheik? So why do people like garbage? Amy was all herself, her real voice I would love to here half the singers that exist today sing without auto tune. This list is complete crap move Amy up. People can't get over the fact she was a hardcore addict, but she was definitely more than that. She was young beautiful and talented. Look at the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, etta James, Billie holiday... They all were drug addicts at one point and nobody looks down on them. Just because amy died of drinking everyone looks at her as a disgusting waste of space on this earth, well I say enough people! Open your ears and heart, even better your soul.
She put everything she could into her music. Her awesome songwriting, her exceptional vocals, her bleeding heart... Everything!
People don't get she was a black woman in a body of white girl. Her awesome vocals prove what I'm saying. She could go from low notes to high.
Listen to October Song, You Sent Me Flying, You Know I'm No Good and He Can Only Hold Her. Then you'll start to understand the long story I'm trying to tell you.
Not just in vocals, she had a brilliant brain, poetic as hell. October Song is the best example, but you'll sure find many more if you go deep into her career, which I really sugest.
People don't take these lists seriously. Amy Lee? Celine Dion? Whitney Houston? Madonna? Avril Lavigne? Rihanna? Shakira? Katy Perry? Demi Lovato? Goddammit. Are you being serious?
How is CHRISTINA AGUILERA above Amy Winehouse? Forget about Amy's demons for a moment, and think about her impacts on music and humanity. Amy had an incredible vocal range, and their was not a song of hers without soul. Amy's music was beautiful poetry (that she wrote herself). "Artists" like Christina Aguilera are just puppet shows with fake assets. There was nothing fake about Amy. Also, Look at her charity work too. Not mentioned by the media, Amy had 12 cats that she rescued at one point, spent money on strangers lifesavers surgeries without expecting anything in return, and donated to numerous charities for children, animals, and human rights. That makes her a better person than a lot of people on this list, and along with superior talent, she deserves the top spot on this list. On July 23rd, 2011, the only thing of Amy's that died were her demons. She's been free since then. We still love you Amy!
Voice of our generation. Her diction and phrasing is wonderful with a rich and beautiful tone. Her vocal runs and techniques are outstanding and she is a pure Jazz improvisational singer. Should most definitely be higher! With todays pop auto tune tripe that blares on the radio and on our T.V. screens. Don't believe me about the beauty that is Amy Winehouse's voice listen to her sing Someone to Watch Over Me, Teach Me Tonight, No Greater Love and Take the Box...
Please for the love of GOD. Rank Amy Winehouse higher than 23. Demi. Katy Perry. Kelly Clarkson all ranked higher than Amy? What is wrong with you people. She deserves Top 3. If not #1. What is wrong with this world. Amy's voice is the most unique angelic soulful sound to ever have given us the pleasure to hear. Her voice is beautiful. Rank her higher. She is my all time favorite. And ranking her at 23 is so disrespectful of her memory. This woman can out sing anyone of these crappy performers. And she can do so in the grave.
She has the most amazingly unique voice and deserves to be no. 1 every day 4 the rest of her singing life
Many people can't look past her troubled life but those who have can see how truly brilliant Amy Winehouse is. She has soul, individuality and raw talent and deserves to be in the top ten! I've skimmed through this list and managed to see Ke$ha? Amy Winehouse could sing her and most of these people under the table, why? Because she is the greatest female singer of our time.
Superb new talent, voice like honey.
could mix it with the likes of Billy Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald.
She sings good contemporary songs and if she can stay off the booze and drugs we could see her around for many years.
I can't stop playing her albums Back to Black & Frank.
I was a late bloomer when it came to Amy Winehouse! I was in the beauty shop one day when one of her songs came on! I asked who was that singing that song? One of the ladies said Any Winehouse! I was thrown! I'm like you're kidding! I had no idea what I'd been missing! Now I'm trying to Catch up on some of her music that I've missed out on! Her voice was so sultry and strong I feel bad that I wasn't up on her music!
This list is perfect example of why popularity does not equal talent. Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and other auto tuned voices are on top of the list, no disrespect to them, but they are nowhere as legendary as Janis Joplin or have an iconic voice like Amy Winehouse. Obviously this page is visited by pre teens and teens, who spam votes for pop stars they are obsessed with, so no credibility in lists like these.
She could sing she could write her own lyrics out of true honesty she could play drums and guitar she had her own jazzy music style and when she wanted she could put a smile on your face for good things. She should be remembered for the good times and not the bad she's one of the top ten best female singers of all time a lot of people would say well when it comes to a unique style. Gone but never ever forgotten.
They put amy below the likes of Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato and even KE$HA?! You gotta be kidding me. She had one of the most emotionally powerful voices of all times. I would put her at least in the top 30 and certainly above the kinds of trashy singers aforementioned. Amy is in her own league.
What is wrong with you people, honestly? I agree, Whitney Houston is a marvelous singer, same for great voices like Celine Dion or Aretha Franklin, but it's, long story short, unacceptable to not see Amy in the top 5 or at the very least top ten of this list! Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne or Pink are possibly more talented or vocally prepared than Amy? I don't think so, not only think, but I'm so sure they aren't. I'm not trying to be a dick here but this list is just dead wrong.
I think she is the best female artist ever. Her voice is so deep and it catches my attention right away. She can bring out the emotions of anyone listen to her song "Valerie".
I can't believe she is below Kesha, rihanna and katy perry, amy has a unique voice that cannot be compared to most female singers on this list. This list is bull to me as it looks like its following the success in sales for female artists
I will always vote for her because she was the truth...she sang truly and said only what she believed in.
When I heard her for a very first time...her some of 2004 gigs, I can't stop exploring something new, funny, interested and always magical in her voice. That is a magic. I'm so sorry that we will not hear new of her, but I still can enjoy what we have, what she has left behind her. RIP girl - 0scarbrunn
I saw the carpenters in London in 1976 at the London palladium and I honestly thought she was singing to a recording, that is until she came off the stage, into the audience to invite people to sing the la la lala lalala... To the song sing, I was sat in the isle end seat and after she wafted past me;and her gown touched me (at which point, I nearly fainted) she chose to stop just behind me and and I heard her sing, and I heard her beautifull, clear voice, it was no recoding, it was live. recorded or live, the best voice ever, never have, or will ever hear that again. in my opinion. her biggest fan ever, Charles
Amy Winehouse is one of or even the single greatest singer who ever lived. She sung a variety of jazz, ska and soul. There is no question that she should be ranked higher than Taylor Swift or Britney Spears who can hardly sing anyway...
Amy was the last singer of soul... a bit vicious and so familiar... She is so frank when you are listen to her soft a bit low voice, which is really sexy one!
Best voice of all time, closely followed by Whitney Houston. RIP, such a terrible loss of talent, not just her singing, but her writing too. No-one can beat her!
Takes style to the next level and speaks plainly about life, love, and loss. Her range was incredible and her lyrics slice through my guts. No one will ever replace her.
Amy is one of the most amazing voices that I have heard. She isn't like anyone else I have heard. She has REAL talent unlike Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Mariah Carey. She puts her heart and soul into her music and you can tell. Her voice is outstanding and deserves to be higher on this list. She writes all the lyrics and knows how to play instruments. I love and miss her SO much. Amy is the best female singer of all time in my book. Love you Amy xoxo
The most soulful singer ever. Her songs were beautiful on an emotional level, and it makes me sad to think that we'll never hear her voice again... Her story is tragic, but her legacy lives on. Rest in peace Amy Jade Winehouse. We love you...
She needs to be #1, she truly had a voice of gold- whether she was singing her own songs, or covers of good old soul tunes (will you still love me tomorrow-the Shirelles), this woman was incredible.
Explain me why Amy is so low? She has an amazing and unique voice. Her vocal range is impressive. Why are Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez upper the her? Taylor and Selena can hardly hit the notes Amy can hit. BYE.
