Best Female Singers of All Time

The Contenders: Page 6

101 Sarah Vaughan

The Divine One should be right up the top. She is definitely the greatest singer in the world.

I was not in the generation that first enjoyed her wonderful voice but I have to agree. She had a superb tone to her voice and truly was. Devine.

Sarah Vaughan for technical perfection, Janis Joplin for pure emotion.

But how many of the internet generation have even heard of these divas?

102 Regina Spektor Regina Spektor Regina Spektor is a Russian-born, American recording Artist. Born on the 18th of February she is 37 years in age. Best known for her meaningful, and joyful music, her best songs include, 'Samson' (2002), 'Eet' (2009) and 'The Call' (which was apart of the 2008 film 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince more.

She's truly fantastic, can't believe she's not higher. But it seems like most people voting here is 13-year-olds without any taste or knowledge in music.

Regina has an incredible voice, really unique sound and an absoulute gift for song writing. Her lyrics are as amazing as her melodies. She takes very unorthodox approaches to vocal technique and somehow makes them work. It's a shame she hasn't been rated higher.

Beautiful, weird, unique artist. Her new stuff isn't as good, but there's some real passion and very unique lyrics and songs - nearly all of her older, original songs in fact. I love all the things she does with her voice.

She's a really great artist and singer. She should be so much higher. - 10Jackson

103 Lily Allen Lily Allen Lily Rose Beatrice Cooper, known professionally as Lily Allen, is an English singer, songwriter, actress, and television presenter.

I love lily Allen a cute character with a great style and sense of humour. Her voice was very good and her videos to go along with that really made sense.

It makes me sick that Bella Thorn is above her.

Should be a lot higher

She is so cute.

104 Tarja Turunen Tarja Turunen Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli (born August 17, 1977), generally known as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish singer-songwriter. She is a soprano and has a vocal range of three octaves. more.

The most powerful voice, as I have ever heard. I was on Tarja's Kiev concert in 2010))) It was one of the most emotional moment of my life. Thank's a lot to Tarja

the magic of voice passes through my heart... no one can touch me so deep as she does it through her singing

Tarja is the absolute best singer in the world. Her voice is unique! She is amazing on stage, you can really feel that she loves her fans!

Must be on top 10 instead of Amy Lee who can only whine, not sing :D

105 Chaka Khan Chaka Khan Chaka Khan is an American singer-songwriter whose career has spanned four decades, beginning in the 1970s as the frontwoman and focal point of the funk band Rufus.

People don't know of her music just like I didn't until recently. I think because she never went the popular route she's been lost in discussion which baffles me. Whitney or no one else could touch Chaka. If you ask any singer who they think was the best, they'd say CHAKA! In any style of music she sounded like what she wanted to, and she wasn't one of these singers that jump around in genres, yet still sounded like their original voice; CHAKA changed her voice and style to fit each song naturally!

Her dynamic and textured voice colors the rainbow. Very few singers have mastered funk, jazz, r&b, rock and pop...Chaka's at the top of the heap. Her stylistic range and power cannot be compared to anyone, with exception of Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, or maybe Natalie Cole. Too, Chaka is the sexiest mature singer on the market, hands down!

Chaka sings so well and never sounds strained. On a bad day she beats any one on this list. She has range and power. She sings her own backing vocals because no one else can do her music justice. What a humble yet phenomenal singer/songwriter. I loves me some Chaka - for me the only drawback is that she's not a showy pretencieous drama queen - and on stage I think she would have gotten more attention had she been more arrogant like, say Aretha.

I'd put her between 20 and 23.

106 Toni Braxton Toni Braxton Toni Michele Braxton was October 7th 1967 in Severn, Maryland the oldest of six siblings. She has sold 67 million records worldwide. She is been named the ''Queen of R&B'' and has one of the most distinctive voices of the late 20th century.

The Living Legend Toni Braxton is not in the top 10?! you've gotta be kidding me. Toni's sultry, soulful, smooth, deep voice is one of a kind, not to mention her hits. Did we forget about 'You Mean the World to We,' 'Love Should Have Brought you Home,' 'Another Sad Love Song, 'Breathe Again,' and the mega-smash "Unbreak My Heart"?

Listen, this list need some SERIOUS revamping, while I agree with Nippy (Whitney Houston) as #1, there is absolutely no reason why Toni should ever be 135 on a female vocalist list, EVER!

she has the most amazing voice known sha deserves to be in the top 10 if not #1 she has power and soul in her voice unlike any othe artist ive ever heard and she has personality in her voice"

How could you have a list without adding TONI BRAXTON... In fact she is better than many of the voices that were posted... No doubt Whitney Houston is number one but... Toni Braxton has a soulful voice as well... Ps you forgot to mention Chaka Khan, Kelly Price, Shirley Murdock,... & many other voices that kicks down the doors...

Come on people, aaliyah sucks and is a joke! How is the talentless aaliyah higher than the queen of r&b Toni Braxton! - RnBLover

107 Sarah McLachlan Sarah McLachlan

I agree with this one. All mentioned singers are great but sarah mclachlan has such a beautiful voice and she is an amazing songwriter. She is world class and in a league of her own. You get lost in her songs. Love her

She has the best vocal range I have ever heard in my life. There are very, very few singers out there who can even feel a grasp of Sarah's powerful voice. It's a major shame to see her under the top 100. At least Anastacia Newkirk, another vocal powerhouse, is ranked quite high. There's nobody out there with a voice like Sarah McLachlan, however.

THe Best by far. Some of the other nominations in front of her are just a joke. Her vocal range is incredible. Most of the artists mentioned probably could not sing live because they are manufactured. Should be number one without a doubt. I mean? Katy Perry, Pink and Lady GaGa. You people are having a laugh! None of them should be in the top 100.

Sarah has a beautiful voice and to see that Nicki Minaj is considered better than her is a travesty.

108 Taylor Momsen Taylor Momsen

Not very famous, but she's very powerful vocals. Better than anyone on the list. She has a unique style and could out sing anyone. She can hit high notes without screaming like Adele and low notes like no other

Taylor has an amazing voice. End of discussion. At the age of 17, she has literally a god send voice that I will die to have. And have you SEEN her? I would die to be her.

She is an amazing singer and it seems like her band the pretty reckless are trying to brings the old rock back

A beautiful girl and a beautiful singer, Taylor Momsen really knows how to get a crowd cheering!

109 Anna Kendrick Anna Kendrick Anna Kendrick is an American actress and singer. She began her career as a child actor in theater productions.

Anna Kendrick is 117th place because she's unpopular but, if she was popular, then she'd be higher. Probably. Why is popularity always important! She is great!

I love Anna she is amazingly pretty and her voice makes me cry because she is so good and she stars in my favorite movies pitch perfect and the 2nd one

I picked Anna because she is a great singer I love her movie pitch perfect and I love her song cups!

I love her I love her movie

Soulful, versatile, plays her own instruments, writes her own music. Wonderful!

111 Pat Benatar Pat Benatar Patricia Mae Andrzejewski, known professionally by her stage name Pat Benatar, is an American singer, songwriter, and four time Grammy Award winner.

The most amazing vocal range of all time. Listen to her belt out the rockers like Hell is for Children, Fire and Ice & Heartbreaker then listen to the high notes in We Live For Love. And i thought no-one could do a great cover of Wuthering Heights, i thought no-one would even dare try, but This little lady proved me wrong on both counts

No question, she has more power, range and clarity than any female singer to date. Listen closely to what she does with her voice. Nobody equals Pat... Nobody. 95% of the singers out there are not qualified to carry her microphone.

No one can touch her for range. She's trained in Opera for heaven's sake. If you want to say some other female singer has better songs.. that's fine. But if we're only talking about voice quality.. I don't see how she's not #1.

Greatest voice, great range and man-she was so hot!

112 Marina Diamandis Marina Diamandis Marina Lambrini Diamandis, known professionally as Marina and the Diamonds, is a Welsh singer-songwriter.

Why isn't she in the top 50? She's my favorite singer right now! And I adore when in an acoustic version she sings 'Oh my gosh! You look, just like Shakira, no, no, you're Catherine Zeta! Actually, my name's Marina' Plus, her vocal range is more on fleek than my eyebrows - kaitlynrad11

Marina is such a talented singer, she's my most favorite indie pop/rock artist. I'm surprised I didn't see her before page 6! Her singing style is really unique and her lyrics are very original. - shotaprince

Marina has one of those super unique voices. She needs to be somewhere near Florence Welch on this list, because they're similar. Great songwriting and live vocals too, plus a nice attitude.

The most talented and prettiest female singer of the 2010's,must be more known!

113 PJ Harvey PJ Harvey Polly Jean Harvey, known as PJ Harvey, is an English musician, singer-songwriter, writer, poet, and composer.

Her album "Let England Shake' was in 2011 the leading music critics choice for Album of the Year in the UK. She is probably more appreciated as a music artist than a female vocalist of grand capabilities, but if you like Kate Bush and Bjork, you should check out the unique vocal sound and song writing style of PJ Harvey.

UNIQUE. She's a very talented woman, eclectic, inspirational... Makes me wonder what would be sharing a whole day with her.

Should be in the top 3, along with Bjork and Kate Bush, the three queens of popular music. One of the all time greats!

Let England Shake is probably one of the best albums of this decade!

114 Bette Midler

While considered one of the greatest entertainers of all time, do NOT underestimate the power, control and tone of her singing voice. Songwriters love when she sings their songs because she is a brilliant interpreter of lyrics. She is a multi-grammy winning singer and has been at the very top of the charts for decades. She is a SRO performer all over the world. Also, her longevity and stayin-power is one of the thinbgs that defines a brilliant singer.

The Divine Miss M! She is one of the best - if not the very best - entertainers in the world. She is just pure quality. She can do touching ballads (The Wind Beneath My Wings) to downright hilarious numbers (Otto Titsling). She is supremely likeable and without a doubt a superstar.

Bette should be in the top five, one of the best female celebs of all time. Mae West is whom she reminds me of.

Very strong vocal and a lovely voice to go with it a great singer.

Classic Range of vocals in alto, soprano, the girl can sing anything. Slow, fast, comedic, raw and edgy, soft and flowing, and she knows how to tell a story with her music and can entertain a crowd. She's beautiful, sexy, kind and considerate, smart, business wise.. She's got it going on! Love this country star and she will go down in history as one of the most influential female country vocalists of all time. She should be at the TOP of the list or near there. We all love most of these women but Miranda can hang with the 'Big Dogs'!

She should be at least in the top three!

117 Shirley Bassey Shirley Bassey

If more people were aware of this lady, then Dame Shirley Bassey (Wales, United Kingdom) would be right at the top of the list. Back in 1976 Shirley received Britain's prestigious 'Best Female Vocalist Of The Last 50 Years of Recorded Sound'; this award is not given out very often! And, after 55 years in Show Business her voice is more powerful than ever! Bassey is a mezzo pitch (Mid-Range) artist. Her vocal range in 'Belting Voice' (No Falsetto) is spectacular, along with her tremendous vocal projection. In the USA Bassey is know for her three James Bond Theme songs, Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever, and Moonraker, but you can't sale between 100-150 Million records with just three songs. Over the years, Bassey has recorded over 600 songs, both studio and LIVE! - Tommy93101

There is no question about it, Dame Shirley Bassey, is the greatest vocalist in the history of spoken language. The woman's pipes never age, she sounds just as good if not better today in 2014, as she did in 1953, when she was 16 and just entered the music industry. If you think about it, she was the first black woman to sing the theme song for a major soundtrack. She is the best vocalist in the history of British music, and nobody can dispute that, although Sarah Brightman does come close. Astonishing and iconic voice, if you see her sing once, you will understand why she deserves #1 more than any of these other people. She occupies a stage like you've never seen before, and it's all her voice, no fancy show, just a woman at the microphone, belting out crystal clear notes in such a passionate and dramatic delivery, the likes of which no other singer could ever do. -

Should be #1! She, not only has the greatest voice, she also has the greatest stage presence! Shirley is dramatic, funny, friendly and sexy. I have been lucky enough to see her in concert TEN times in NYC and they didn't call the famous Carnegie Hall her second home for no reason. Don't judge her talent by her Bond songs because they can't be compared to so many of her greater songs. In the USA, Shirley Bassey may be famous for those songs, but her fans will tell you that if you go on You Tube see videos of Dame Bassey performing "This Is My Life" and/or "Excuses", you'll really see and hear the greatest singer since Ella Fitzgerald.

When you hear the voice you know it's Shirley Bassey. Should be right up there with the greatest.

118 Lauryn Hill Lauryn Hill

She is incredible! Not only can she sing these beautiful soulful melodies, but she can also rap very well, and write her own lyrics and poetry. She is a poetess, and that talent serves well when you are a song writer. Her album, "miseducation of lauryn hill" is the best album of all time. like eve said, regarding Lauryn's album, "it is like scripture to me."

She has unbelievable talent in making a breakthrough in music. Imagine her album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", was the first Hip Hop album to win Grammy's Album of the year. - hayreanmarjon

Easily the best of these scrubs. Not only did she change the face of hip-hop for female artists for years to come, she did it in a way that only Lauryn Hill could. Her album the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill allowed her to win multiple grammies. She might have the best singing voice of everyone mentioned here; and easily a better lyricist.

Respect please.

YES but how the f did she come after Taylor Swift?

Has starred in "Blended", "The Frog Kingdom", "The Duff", "Big Sky", "Ratchet & Clank", "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" more.

Such an amazing vocal talent! She is one of the very best by far, why is she down here at 143? She must be at the top 10 at least! Her songs are so recognizable and unique at the same time, her voice is powerful and has so much emotion!

The Little Sparrow. Vote for the singer who stole my heart with her incredibly heartfelt singing.

Her songs are beautiful and she had the most powerful voice. She is a queen of song in her own right.

Bella Throne doesn't have very high vocals or she needs to practice but she is still an amazing singer.

Her voice is amazing and she is pretty but she hardly sings anymore which I miss please start singing again

No... the cookie cutter pop star voice is killing me...
