The true test of a great singer is to see them in concert. Elkie's live shows are truly fantastic. Proving she is not only a studio singer, like so many other singers.

Nobody even comes close, she blows everybody else out of the water! Stunning! -
She's the female equivalent to Frank Sinatra wit her powerful voice and her impeccable phrasing.
Hands down. Never, never, never bet against Dame Shirley! Power, emotion and control all in one package.
Mahalia Jackson once moved me to tears in a song. So much emotion
Are you kidding? She is number one everlastingly.
Bonnie Tyler was the first female British artist to enter number 1 in the American charts (with her song Total Eclipse Of The Heart)

She's the greatest among all the belters especially when doing live performances. Having skyrocketing belting voice, Whoa! Truly amazing.
Best female belter who can sustain b5 note and despite her age she can still give a powerful performance. She is very humble!

Four time Latin Grammy Winner Vikki Carr is celebrating over 50 years in the business as an overnight success! Just like in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and now the 2000's, she can still belt out a tune so powerful that it could blast the roof off any venue, I know, I've been to many of her performances and she still receives standing ovations. Ms. Carr is still recording albums and her new CD is called "Viva La Vida" now available on iTunes and Walmart! You can check out her award winning website @ vikkicarr.net as well. Vikki has certainly earned the position of #1 on your chart and in my heart!
One of the nicest and most talented female performers of the 1960's, scoring another Billboard chart winner in 2012. Viva VikkiV 2 Comments
A powerful, rich, blunt voice that can bring a crowd to thundering applause or deafening silence. Full of nuance and technique, Judy felt every word she sang, and gave each performance to her audience like a present on Christmas. Could sing live perhaps almost better than on recording, as she proved on that glorious night at Carnegie Hall in 1961. She was and always will be a genuine, brilliant performer with a marvelous brassy contralto.
Shes the greatest of them all! Even at 60 she still can belt. Shes a legend.
She has a career that spans almost 5 decades. Most of the artist are past their prime at the age of 64. But she can still belt at that age...
She is Barbra... That's all that needs to be said
Whitney had strong belts that were very versatile depending on the music she was singing but they all had pure power. She could do one cleanly or with her strong vibrato and her belts were phenomenal in their range and tone. She's absolutely #1 for me!
Are you serious number 17?! One of the most controlled and powerful belters you have ever heard.
The heck! She, must be in the first!
River deep - mountain high. Amazing singer. Needs to be number one ASAP
Lara is the greatest woman with the unique voice! I love her n thanks to Lara for flying my soul when I listen to her songs! Her songs, like rain, drop by drop seep in my heart n enliven it! Her music will live forever!
Idina Menzel is literally the best broadway belter in the history of the planet. Every belter on broadway should strive to be her.
Defying Gravity is the optimum of any broadway song
Just an amazing singer and artist. In every way.
She is simply the best... Period.
Died so young before she could turn all that hard living into musical phrasing that could take you straight to hell or heaven.
In a League of her own with her pure voice and vocal range.
HOW IS SHE NOT ON THE LIST!?!?!?
Although the word "belter" doesn't sound very flattering or particularly apt when applied to someone whose classically trained voice has often been described as angelic, her voice certainly has the qualities stipulated above: " distinct vocal vibrato, vocal range, and vocal consistency over a LONG time span", and you can add amazing versatility, since she can sing in any style or genre. Since she is either top or near the top of many other lists, she may as well be added to this one - going in at number 45, although there will be no justice if she doesn't end up a lot higher.
