Top 10 Fictional Characters Who Can Be Argued to Be Mary Sues and Gary Stus

The Top Ten
1 Charles Entertainment Cheese (Chuck E. Cheese)

He never really needed a backstory, but his fictional character biography gave him the most Harry-Potter-esque or Batman-esque backstory you could give an arcade mascot. And we're supposed to accept he's sort of a jerk in his original dialogues with his friends.

2 Dr. Shaun Murphy (The Good Doctor)

Though many obstacles of his childhood are justified as typical of people with autism, many would be a worst case scenario in real life. For one, being a prodigy doesn't mean you're going to be right about every single medical patient. Also, the part of his childhood where he runs away with his brother to a train station and watches him die is a little extreme. Imagine that being put in your Wikipedia biography.

3 Egwene al'Vere (A Wheel of Time)

She is like a chief micromanager in the books, trying to be the guide nobody ever really needed. Aside from that, it is hard to explain.

4 Ash Crimson (King of Fighters)
5 Bayonetta (Bayonetta Series) Bayonetta, real name Cereza, is a fictional character and protagonist of the video game Bayonetta and its sequel, developed by PlatinumGames and published by Sega and Nintendo respectively.
6 Lisa Simpson (The Simpsons) Lisa Marie Simpson is a fictional character in the animated television series The Simpsons. She is the middle child and most intelligent of the Simpson family.

You can be a know-it-all without having the moral high ground in everything. But every moral thing she says is supposed to be taken as the philosophical stance the show promotes.

7 Elizabeth Olivet (Law and Order)

She's one of those characters that says that something must be the law, so it must be moral. And then she tries to embody the law to a fanatic extent. Even the smallest of things do not go forgiven by her.

8 Jerry the Mouse (Tom & Jerry) Gerald "Jerry" Mouse is a fictional character and one of the title characters in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's series of Tom and Jerry theatrical cartoon short films. He is a mouse that gets chased by Tom, but tries to trick Tom so he won't catch him.

Every participant in a sibling rivalry has some fault about them. But not Jerry. We're just supposed to accept that putting a cat through insanity is normal.

Is there any doubt? He always wins even when Tom is bigger and stronger than him. He hasn't any flaws.

How? He is incredibly sadistic. Have y'all ever seen the pure delight on Jerry's face when Tom gets hurt?!

9 Jade Emperor (Chinese Folklore)

If you thought the higher ups of Greek mythology were Mary Sues, you have not read about the Jade Emperor. He dedicated almost a million years helping people, and that's not a numerical exaggeration. Then when we see him in other works, we're supposed to accept he's a jerk. He assigned Sun Wukong as a stable master and banished another main character of Journey To The West to a punishment that would make Greek mythology look sane. And for what? For accidentally breaking a vase! That's what!

10 Minnie Mouse (Disney) Minerva "Minnie" Mouse is a cartoon character created by Ub Iwerks and Walt Disney. She was first drawn by Iwerks in 1928, as was Mickey Mouse. Her former voice actor Russi Taylor (1944 - 2019) voiced her for 30 years & also married Wayne Allwine (1947 - 2009), the former voice of Mickey Mouse. Minnie Mouse is currently being voiced by Kaitlyn Robrock
The Contenders
11 Corrin (Fire Emblem Fates)
12 Queen Iduna (Frozen)
13 Elsa (Frozen) Queen Elsa of Arendelle is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 53rd animated film Frozen.

Really didn't want to add her, but after Frozen II's "revelations" it's hard even for this fan of Elsa and her original movie to not see her as a Mary Sue.

14 Zoey (Total Drama)
15 Tori Vega (Victorious) Tori Vega (Victoria Justice) is the younger sister of Trina Vega, which makes her the youngest daughter of the Vega family and attends Hollywood Arts, a performing arts high school, along with her sister. ...read more.
16 Shank (Ralph Breaks the Internet)

Credit to jbwarner86: "When we meet Shank, she has no flaws. She's cool, she's confident, she's a ridiculously skilled racer, she basically exists as a living embodiment of everything Vanellope thinks is awesome. And then she heaps all this praise upon Vanellope, earning her admiration instantly."

17 Rey (Star Wars) Rey is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, portrayed by British actress Daisy Ridley. First appearing as the central character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey is a scavenger who was left behind on the planet Jakku when she was a child, and later becomes involved with the Resistance's conflict with the First Order when her solitary life is interrupted by BB-8, the droid of ace Resistance pilot Poe Dameron, and the runaway Stormtrooper Finn.

Some rando who is unrelated to Shimi, Anakin, Luke, or Leia yet is one with The Force and a "worthy successor". The reveal in the last film pushed her even further into Mary Sue territory.

I have to think. Sometimes she acts like a Mary Sue but not all the time... I don't know.

18 Judy Hopps (Zootopia) Officer Judy Hopps is the protagonist in Disney's 2016 animated feature film Zootopia. The first rabbit to be in Zootopia's police force, Judy is determined to make the world a better place while breaking preconceptions about other species. Teaming up with a fox named Nick Wilde, she sets off on her first case but discovers a sinister conspiracy is at play.
19 Tooru Ichii (A Channel)
20 Maeve Donovan (Criminal Minds)

Specifically a Relationship Sue

21 Jennifer Jareau (Criminal Minds)

A result of the producers trying way too hard to make up for having previously fired the actress

At least from season 7 onwards

22 Leslie Burke (Bridge to Terabithia)

She was made as if the author originally made her for a beauty pageant fan fiction. Her backstory is the dominant contrast of the whole story and she is idealistically described for beauty satisfaction.

23 Rock Howard (Fatal Fury)
24 Kotoura Haruka (Kotoura-San)
25 Neptune (Hyperdimension Neptunia)

She doesn't have a lot to say morally, but she puts every other character through a lot over the course of the series, which is presented in the guise of humor and therefore brushed off.
