Top Ten Best Film and TV Portrayals of Literary Characters

I decided to make this list after watching the Hobbit with Martin Freeman. I thought Freeman was wonderful as Bilbo and then I realized that he has portrayed two literary characters now, Bilbo and Watson. And then this got me thinking what is the best portrayal of a literary character, so here is my list of what I think are.

Of the six portrayals of the iconic gentleman spy (not counting the unofficial portrayals by Barry Nelson in the 1954 T.V. adaptation of Casino Royale and David Niven in the 1967 spoof film also called Casino Royale), Sean Connery's take on the character is the quintessential incarnation of James Bond. Smart, charming and cool but dangerous and skilled, this cemented the James Bond character's status in film history.
