Top 10 Fish Species In Canada

Canada is a water-rich country: there's a lot of water in Canada and around Canada (oceans, lakes, rivers). Because the bodies of water are of different types (freshwater, saltwater), the types of fish are different
as well.

The Top Ten

1 Killer Whale (Orca) Killer Whale (Orca) The killer whale or orca is a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family, of which it is the largest member.

I once had a dream in 7th grade where an orca whale was trying to kill me and my 6th grade math class when some water leaked in the math classroom. It was seriously my weirdest dream ever. - PhoenixAura81

Oops! The list title was supposed to be "Aquatic Species In Canada" - I changed the list idea while finishing the draft but forgot to change the title. My bad, sorry. - Metal_Treasure

"Whale watching" exists in Canada. Not during "whale watching" but I've seen one - in Marineland, an amusement park in Niagara Falls. The orca performed a show - it even waved goodbye with its tail. - Metal_Treasure

I went whale watching when I went to Vancouver for vacation/my dad's annual business meeting, but I didn't see any whales! - PhoenixAura81

2 Dolphin Dolphin Dolphins are a widely distributed and diverse group of fully aquatic marine mammals. They are an informal grouping within the order Cetacea, excluding whales and porpoises, so to zoologists the grouping is paraphyletic.

There are 10 species of dolphins and porpoises that can be found in Canadian water, for example:
- On the Atlantic coast: the Atlantic white-sided dolphin, the white-beaked dolphin, and the common dolphin,
- On the Pacific coast: the Pacific white-sided dolphin, the Northern right whale dolphin, and the Dall’s porpoise
- On both coasts: the harbour porpoise and Risso’s dolphin - Metal_Treasure

3 Blue Whale Blue Whale The blue whale is a marine mammal belonging to the baleen whales. At 30 metres in length and up to 173 tonnes in weight, it is the largest extant animal and is the heaviest known to have existed.

It is the largest animal known to have ever existed: up to 29.9 metres (98 ft)
in length and recorded weight of 173 tonnes (190 short tons) - Metal_Treasure

4 Beluga Whale Beluga Whale The beluga whale or white whale is an Arctic and sub-Arctic cetacean. It is one of two members of the family Monodontidae, along with the narwhal, and the only member of the genus Delphinapterus.

One of the most loved attractions in amusement parks - you can pet them, feed them and even take a picture with them. I also did that in Marineland - an amusement park in Niagara Falls. Beluga whales are so friendly and cute. - Metal_Treasure

5 Great White Shark Great White Shark The great white shark, also known as the great white, white pointer, white shark, or white death, is a species of large lamniform shark which can be found in the coastal surface waters of all the major oceans.

Never ever mess with them - they are responsible for more recorded human bite incidents than any other shark. The "Jaws" features one of them. - Metal_Treasure

Um did you pay attention in biology because dolphins and whales are not fish.

6 Humpback Whale Humpback Whale The humpback whale is a species of baleen whale. One of the larger rorqual species, adults range in length from 12–16 m and weigh about 36,000 kg.

They can sing producing quite complex songs, no kidding (only the male though) - Metal_Treasure

8 Sturgeon Sturgeon

Sturgeons come even to big cities - I've seen one in Montreal (not in the zoo) - Metal_Treasure

AAH! D: - PhoenixAura81

9 Walleye Walleye

Also known as pickerel and walleyed pike (it's very yummy) - Metal_Treasure

10 Yellow Perch Yellow Perch

It's perhaps the most abundant fish over here - you can find them in almost every puddle, haha - Metal_Treasure
